Members Colin Stolzer
We did that one spring with our chicks, you dip the eggs in food coloring a couple days before they are born and the dye soaks through the shell and colors the chicks feathers. It wears off when they molt into their first feathers but you should see the looks you get from people when you have a couple dozen multi-colored chicks running around your yard. Members CJP56
When I was a kid people could buy colored Easter chicks. We were given one that had been injured by some mean kids and was younger than the ordinary chicks we already had. That little guy proceeded to grow and became a lot bigger than our other chickens. He was a bright lavender when he was a baby, but when he got older his feathers were an extremely pale lavender. He was a handsome fellow, but he met the same fate as all our other chickens: FRIED. My Mother and Grandmother were expert chicken uh-- processors. CJP56.
