Law and Grace

He stands in the night, a hardend face
He enforces the Law, for that is his place

Appointed by the Lord, called to a duty devine
By the Grace of God his strength refined

The call comes in, away he goes
To help anyone in need, helping others, he starts to glow

Over an injured child he kneals, his words so kind
Trying to ease the fear, for now she is blind
Why O why Lord, she's only nine

Pain and hurt fills the night, more calls waiting for him to go
He prays in his car, may the rest of the calls be no more

Home late at night, leave the job at the door
Carrying the scars of what he saw an hour before

Family asleep, darkness fills the house
He drops his gun belt, and hangs up his uniform blouse

He moves to the floor with reverence in the black
The tears start to flow as the memories flood back

Bible in hand he opens so slow
Light from the hall gives a soft glow

He reads and prays through tears of pain
Yet finds joy and comfort that he can not explain

Why do terrible things happen that send tears down his face
The answer comes clear, from God so sweet and so clear
It is finished on the cross, you have my Grace

Peace I leave with you, the Holy Spirit in his heart
He drifts off to sleep, the Lord will not depart

In the Morning awake ready to go
knowing the grace of God will help him so.

Thank you Lord for another day
To serve you in this special way.

A partner the Lord is, never leaving his side
If he has to have a partner, the Lord is always welcome to ride

Enforceing the law that is his place
Enforceing the law under God's wonderful Grace

I used to write some poems when I was a Deputy. Thought I would share one.

Thanks for sharing :) i like it. speaking of law, I think you might like what my pastor once said: The laws can not save you.

Then I think he went something like the police(or was it judge???) can.

I was speeding briefly one day on a steep downhill.. I did slow down before I even acknowledge there was police. He pulled me over and I told him I was sorry. He decided to give me a warning. By law, I'm suppose to get a ticket, but that policeman let me have a fresh start. I still remember his kindness and forgiveness. Sadly, not alot of people cared but themselves.
