Soap/lard/lye

For cooking purposes, the lard needs to be white and solid.  If it's not, that means it didn't get hot enough - I think the heat burns off the smell...I remember the smell eventually going away, but the process was stinky!  :icon_smile:

 

Thanks! I checked the early batches last night, and I think there is no smell, and it's nice and white. Yay!! :D I think I'll have to save some for baking just to try it out.

I haven't tried making soap yet, but I finally got all the lard rendered! Got 8-9 pints out of it.

Lard and Tallow is great stuff with many uses around the homefront.  Makes the best pie crust too.  Switching to real butter and lard, I've actually lost weight and lowered my colesterol and I have eggs every morning for breakfast too!
