Keep your a/c thermostat at 80 degrees during the day, then lower at night or when you get home from work. Turing it off during the day is not good. Your home get so hot, that it will take you’re a/c 4 hours or more to cool the house down. Also get a digital thermostat some bring daily programing where you will not have to touch it at all, after you have programed it for the seven days. Very important change your a/c filter regularly, every three months or sooner if you have pets.  Pleated filters, keep your unit and vents cleaner.

Turn off your electric water heater when you go on vacation, why heat up the water if noboby is there? Shut the main waterline off to your home too, that way there will not be any water leaks or floods when you get home.  :)

Use fluorescent bulbs in all your fixtures.

Use ceiling fans in an occupied room because they make you feel cooler at higher temperatures . but turn them off if people are not in the room because they do not lower temperature and your furniture can't feel the breeze anyway. :)

I'm not going to turn mine up to 80 during the day, I'm old, wife & I are retired.

And if you get a programmable thermostat you will have to have children, or teenager set it, for programmable thermostats are completely adult proof. How do I know, we have one at church!.

So your much better than all of us old people, that's just great.

Yet its a fact, today's children are up on all the computer programming stuff, much more than us adults.

I keep ours at 78 all the time.  It doesn't run anyway if it isn't too hot. (at night mostly)  Guess it depends on where you live.

I too am old, and can't figure out those fancy programmable things, which is why I keep it at 78!  I do have a lamp on a timer for when we step out at night (USED to step out, I pretty much am confined to the house/yard now.).  The timer was easier than I expected, but when time change comes, I get confused on which way to reset it :clapping:

Save money -- buy a bicycle for local traveling!  Rurral area?  .

Save coupons, we save a lot of money that way.  (Some stores around here double them.  They can be found in local papers, usually, and online.

(Made a few corrections.  my old fingers try taking over without the brain telling them to!)

Interesting:

Nothing was said or implied about anyone being "better, superior, or more cognizant" than anyone else

.

Our ages are not disproportional - I have a brother-in-law your age.

I just said they make instruction books for the thermostats -- like following a "Haynes" or "Chilton" repair manual when replacing the differential gears in your truck or following a TO (USAF technical order) when inspecting 2.75 inch rockets (you are former AF, right?)

The higer you can keep it, the more $$$ you can save. Now when you walk into a 80 degree home with low humitity, and the outside temp is in the 90's, it feel very good for a while. Good double Ins, windows and good insulation in the attic is a plus.

You can still replace things like thermostats, belts, hoses, fuel pumps, water pumps, coolant fans, alternators, brake rotors and pads, starters, power steering pumps,,,, things like that without dealing with any electronics.  I recently replaced the electric window parts on my Tahoe, the interior door handles on my Silverado and the door handle on my Daughter's Nissan. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with any of the computer parts yet. A few months ago, I replaced the water pump and retrofitted my old commercial air compressor with a high performance electronic ignition system, had it running like a sewing machine, used it on two jobs then sold it.  :)

Some of that depends upon the make, model and year of the vehicle. Some of those things used to be very easy to get to and simple to repair. On some newer vehicles they can still be got to, usually much more difficult than in previous years, and fixed, but on some of the newer vehicles unless one has specialty tools it can't be done. In some cases, even then more is needed.

My son-in-law is a mechanic so he does most of his own vehicle repairs and such, but he went to do something typically fairly simple on his wife's SUV and discovered that the only way to get to it was to remove several things and the engine had to be loosened from its mounts so it could be moved enough to get the old part out and the new put on.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I could take care of most things on my vehicles from the 60s, 70s, most things in the 80s and some into the 90s. Most of the new vehicles have all that government mandatory stuff right in the way crowding things up, plus with government regulations about other matters auto makers have had to compact the vehicles so the engines and space around them are very cramped. Then add the problem Jerry mentioned about all the computerization, and things get real tough for shade tree mechanics!

I told my wife if we ever get rich I'm not going to buy a fancy car, I'm going to buy a 1966 chevy half-ton pick up like the first vehicle I owned. Great trucks and very easy to maintain!

I used to replace all those things myself, plus change my own oil.  Now I am told that I cannot "strain" which means no heavy lifting, and no "reefing" on a tight bolt or nut.  I don't even change oil now, because I either forget that cap, and lose it, or get so tired, I want to fall asleep under the car!  Anyway, that's a little off topic.  I did many repairs at home and saved a lot of money.  Now, with the internet, it is even easier to find instruction on "how to".

Just bought a 2013 Dodge Caravan, and was able to pay cash for it, God be praised.  I believe that He helps us to save when we are watching how we use the $ He has allowed us, and give liberally to help others.  I found that when I focus on money, I usually find it harder to save, but when I focus on "spending" (or not spending) then it comes easier.  Be careful not to murmur about being broke, but focus on the blessings that the Lord has given you already.

Havent been on for years, but have been studying with Jews for Jesus weekly Bible Study which has been wonderful.  Not sure any of your views on that group, but if you are from a Jewish background a great place to be grounded in the word and to learn.

I am a researcher and writer at Watch Unto Prayer which I started 25 years ago. On this website there are many well-documented articles and audio programs by myself and other researchers whose ministry is to expose the endtime apostasy of the Church. Now more than ever Christians need information in order to identify and avoid the various deceptions that are in nearly all the churches.
My husband and I attended the IFB Bible Baptist Church of James Knox a couple of years ago. We left the church after we were informed by the assistant pastor that we were not allowed to express views to other members that do not agree with the views of the pastor and leaders of the church. We were not introducing heresy but expressing our views concerning the State of Israel. We had never been in a church which forbade private conversations on issues where there are diverse opinions. This we recognized as cultlike control of church members. To inform Christians, my husband, who is also a researcher and writer, started a website on the subject: Zionism Exposed: A Watchman Ministry.

Brother Tony, I read your reply on Anderson, I know you all think I'm argumentative but, when you don't agree.....the first thought I had is, I wish you would introduce me to the guy that hasn't sinned, maybe David, that had a man killed so he could commit adultery, yet, he was & is a man after Gods own heart, or maybe Paul the guy that persecuted and had Christians killed, or maybe Richg or Kent H, or even you ! I used to listen to personalities also when I was younger but today and for some time, my only concern is, does it line up with scripture & to me its hilarious that you think "I'm in a fix" LOL, I interpreted what we've discussed perfectly, not because I'm smart, but because with an open mind to things of God, its an easy read.
