Eric, neither passage says satan left earth. If it said the following, I would say he did.........

And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From the earth and from walking up and down in it.

But it doesn't say that; it says.......

"From going to and fro in the earth"

I'm sorry, I didn't answer your question:

Abraham stood "before the Lord"(Genesis 18:22, Genesis 19:27), Moses "spake before the Lord (Exodus 6:12), Moses "went in before the Lord" (Exodus 34:34). Also see Exodus 23:17 and Exodus 16:9; there are lots of them in Exodus and Leviticus. In 1 Samuel we find........

1 Samuel 10:19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

This was to take place on earth; not a trip from the planet to Heaven. Likewise, the "sons of God" (believers), "presented themselves" "before the Lord" and it was on this earth, just like Abraham, Moses, the men in 1 Samuel did and like about 250 other places in the KJV.

heartstrings,

In your examples God came down to man from heaven, but in Job 2:1-3 Satan came from from earth to God along with the the sons of God.

Job 2:1-3 (KJV)

1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

2And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Again, he answers with what he was doing in the earth. Heaven is never mentioned, brother.

Where does this say and God came down to Mizpeh?

1 Samuel 10:17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;

18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

They presented themselves "before the Lord" in Mizpeh because God was already there; He's everywhere; even in Hell the Bible says. He fills the whole vast universe."The eyes of the Lord are in every place" the Bible says.

Heartstrings,

If you believe that the sons of God are humans on earth, why isn't Job among them since he was the most righteous man of the east?

Who says he wasn't? That might be what prompted the Lord to bring him up as an example.

1 Peter 3:21b-22

21b  by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

That is where Satan and the sons of God go to be reviewed also.
