A Poem and a Prayer

Dear Holy Spirit,
Thank you for your sweet voice within;
Thank you for the great power of your presence;
Thank you for walking daily with me;
Thank you for your gracious “Pleasance”.

You’re a very great friend indeed;
A Guide and a companion to such a wretch as I;
Ever strengthening, ever encouraging,
Ever faithful, ever building me.
Thank you for standing by me in those late night hours;
Thank you for controlling my dreams, influencing my thoughts;
Thank you for your ever-present love.

What an amazing person you are; what an amazing friend;
You are more to me than words can express;
More precious than any treasure, future or past;
More practical and precious than life itself.

You are more than words can express;
More powerful than the splitting of the atom;
More gentle than the lovely petals of a rose;
Sweeter than the sugar cane,
Better than a faithful friend.

Than you for “taking me in”, for adopting me;
Thank you for caring when no one else did;
Wayward youths we were, bound for hell;
Thank you for making a difference in my life.

Thank you for being all that I need; all that I could ever hope for;
You’ve made my life worthwhile.
You’ve given me hope.
Thank you Holy Spirit for everything you are,
And for all that you so wonderfully do in my life,
And in the lives of so many others.

I know that you are much more than these futile words can say;
How can evil lips describe thy holiness, thy love?
There is no love in all the world—e’en in the universe
Like your love, oh God, none so pure and good.

Thank you for being my sustenance; my friend; my love…
Occupy me fully now please;
Quicken thou my lowly spirit;
Make me your companion in grief;
Cause me to accomplish that which is good.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for absolute being;
Take now my heart and make it to glorify thee;
Point me in the way of service, of truth;
Cause my hands to “do”, and my feet to “go”,
And my will to be surrendered to thee.

Strengthen my walk before thee, oh God,
And accept my unworthy praise;
Let me be to others the friend you are to me.
Thank you Lord, and I love you.
