God Did Not Create the Universe, says Hawking

Exodus 20:11a - 'For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is...'

Stephen Hawking has made a name for himself in theoretical physics with his work on black holes, cosmology, and quantum theory. Since 1979, he has held a position as Cambridge University's Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, a position once held by Sir Isaac Newton. Hawking has always held a strong belief in the Big Bang Theory and the Theory of Evolution concerning the origins of the universe. Through his work he has established himself as one of the world's leading scientific authorities.

Hawking has recently co-authored a new book with US physicist Leonard Mlodinow titled The Grand Design. In his new book he claims that a new series of theories has created the idea of a creatore for the universe redundant. Hawking states in the book, "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist, it is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going." Gravity may be responsible for a lot of things, but gravity could not create anything out of nothing let alone an entire universe. One first has to wonder how gravity came about when there was nothing in existence. If gravity spontaneously created the universe from nothing then what spontaneously created gravity. Was it always there in this vast nothing or did it come about as the result of something within the nothing. One can clearly see how ridiculous this line of thinking becomes in just a short time. Even if gravity could have created something from nothing (which it could not have) then something had to have initially created gravity.

Secondly gravity can not be measured and has no effect except when you have two different bodies of mass. Gravity is determined by the mass of the OBjects involved. It is the tendency of OBjects to be attracted to one another based on their differing masses barring any outside force. If gravity requires two OBjects of differing mass in order to be applicable (these two OBjects must also be within a certain proximity to one another) then how could gravity be effective in a state of nothingness. It would have no bodies of mass to interact with and would not have any effect at all.

This goes to show that scientists who disregard the Bible and the God thereof will go to any lengths to keep from giving Him the credit He is due. They ignore proven facts and laws of science in order to promote their theories which tend to do away with anything pertaining to God or the Bible. Hawking is seriously deluded if he believes that this world was created through the acts of gravity. This world was created spontaneously out of nothing but it was done so by God speaking it into existence out of nothing.

II Timothy 3:7 - 'Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.'

If scientists such as Hawking were to have a life verse then no doubt this would be it. They are constantly studying the universe attempting to find out more about its beginning yet they never will quite figure it out. They may learn more and more about this wonderful creation but they will never learn the truth until they acknowledge the Creator. All they need do is look at Genesis 1 and they can know exactly how this universe came to be.

In Christ,

Amen! My Jewish brother-in-law and I were just discussing this over the weekend. Mr. Hawking has just shown that he is not as brilliant as he puts himself forth to be. He's been pretty much forgotten over the past decade or so; I suspect he needed to say something controversial to make himself feel relevant again.
