Depends. Praying while your walking is no different than praying at any other time but I would be careful about those using the term or elevating it to some special status. I believe there is a "prayer walking" movement that is just "Christianizing" some practices that are borrowed from eastern pagan religions. OBviously we should stay away from that.

Never heard of it, but I feel sure most everyone has prayed while walking and or doing many other things.

The Charismatic idea is that of claiming an area or city for Christ by "prayer walking" around it - but this is unbiblical. God did not promise us cities if we walk around them while praying.

Where are all these cities that they claimed for the Lord? I don't know of any exclusively Christian cities, wholly living for the Lord.

An article I read about it claims prayer walking add power to your prayer, that is a lie, an unbibical.

Of course the key to having answered prayer is to ask in the name of Jesus and having faith.

I used to partake in a ministry where we did "prayer walking", which was basically searching for the lost throughout our city (prostitutes, drug users, those who frequent pornography shops, homeless, etc.) and introducing them to the precious message of the Gospel and the love of Jesus. NOTHING MORE, AND NOTHING LESS. We didn't adopt the idea of prayer walking from paganism or it's practice, nor did we try to win or claim a city. We simply had a sincere love for the lost and wanted them to know the love of God. We walked and we prayed for the los and we didn't walk around like idiots with our eyes closed while praying. It was exciting to see the lost turn their hearts to the Lord and I was very greatful for this. [/align]Interestingly, there where some Christians who condemned our practice just because we put the two words, "prayer" and "walking" together.

Madeline, my post above explains the charismatic use of the term (prOBably who originally coined it), so it is understandable for many to be leary of the term.

I sometimes go on a Prayer Hike, where I go hike to a place separated from everyone and get alone with God. Sometimes I just need to find a new closet to pray, sometimes when I go to a different place the prayer doesn't seem so ritualistic. The hike also gives me a chance to view the beautiful creation that the Lord has made. I took this from the Bible, Moses went up into a mountain to pray and talk to God, Jesus did the same.

While we can do many daily activities and call it "Prayer Walking", I personally will avoid using the term. I would come up with a different title that is unique. I do not want to confuse someone with what I am doing, to what the charismatics are doing.

I don't see anything wrong with it, unless you have a kooky meaning for it or something...

If I praying , I usually just use the term "I'm praying" or "saying a prayer" At first, I thought you were talking about one of those mazes that people used to meditate and pray. I forgot the name of it though.

and if I am meeting people, I usually call it soul winning (which we pray anyway) or however people prefer to call it.

Well, the only reason I asked was because my church is doing it. I didn't say anything but have thought why don't we just stay at the church and pray? Right now we have been driving instead of walking because it is soooooo cold. It is kind of funny you all metioned it comes from the charasmatics because while we were praying I thought to myself this seems like something the charasmatics would create. Now I don't believe there is a prOBlem with prayer walking like many of you, but I will tell you it is very difficult to pray for people you don't know. I have no clue how to pray for them, and it seems like I just end up praying the same thing over and over again. If any of you have prayer walked maybe you have had better experiences.

I think what you are doing is wonderful (no matter what you wish to call it). We are strongly encouraged by scripture to pray, and I know of no passage which discourages it of course. Being a "prayer warrior" is the specific major ministry that many believers are given by the Lord. But even for those of us who are not as gifted in prayer as others, the more prayer the better! I think praying for those you meet is a wonderful idea, and even better if you are doing it deliberately and consistently. I see nothing in anything you describe as being unbiblical in any way, but rather to be responding to the Lord according to the Bible in a very inspiring way.
