  1. I'm sorry to hear that's happening in your church. I believe the rock style of music is so pervasive in our culture that Christians are becoming desensitized to it. Churches also have an issue where the standard is based more on the taste of the members than on scriptural principles, and the effects have been devastating.
  2. Everyone's situation is different. If it was me, I would probably just leave if I was in the minority in being against it. But you make a good point, and the more scriptural thing to do would be to go to the person and bring them your concerns, as a starting point. Sometimes that's all you need to do.
  3. Regarding leading and following: It's clear to me that a husband can choose to display leadership, whether or not his family chooses to follow. It's less clear to me how a wife can follow a husband who chooses not to lead. The act of following kind of assumes that some sort of direction has been given, and in the absence of that, how do you follow? I honestly don't know.
  4. Those issues are serious enough to justify searching for a new church, regardless of the gender of the "worship leader." I would be looking for a new church, too! (As an aside, "worship team" and "worship leader" terminology sets off alarm bells in my head. Churches who have those typically are already sliding into the stylistic traits of rock music.)
  5. Singing in other languages is partly about accessing a broad range of classical repertoire, too. If vocalists don't learn to sing in other languages, they miss out on a lot.
  6. I think it's very clear that a woman shouldn't be a pastor, or a preacher. To extend that to women not teaching other women or children, or never teaching men anything even if it's outside the context of preaching or a Bible study, seems a bit of an overreach to me. I prefer that a songleader be male, because I believe men should take leadership roles in public worship, but it's only a strong preference, not something I would be dogmatic about.
  7. This is true, and I wish all pastor knew their limits. So many Christians don't even believe that mental illness is a real thing, and the results can be very dangerous.
  8. Thank you for the welcome, everyone! ?
  9. In some cases, they're not wrong. I think it also makes it very easy for them to dismiss what we believe as nonsense with no basis in reality.
  10. Hello, I'm a homeschooling mom and church musician from Canada. Looking forward to getting to know you. ?
