  1. Napsterdad's post in What is a modern Baptist Church building supposed to look like? was marked as the answer
I am going through a study of 1 Kings and just recently finished the building of Solomon's Temple. Odd name that; Solomon's Temple. Should it not be God's? I think the name speaks volumes in itself.
1 Kings 6:11-14 And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying, 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father: 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel. 14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
We are not told how Solomon received this word from the LORD, whether by prophet or dream or otherwise, but I find the message compelling. God starts out with “concerning the house which thou art building, but then does not say another word about the building itself. Instead the message focuses on the man. If thou [,Solomon,] wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee.
God is far more concerned about the house Solomon is building within himself than any physical structure on the earth. Perhaps part of what God spoke to Solomon is what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3:16-20 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
And perhaps this last verse we just read is the final realization Solomon came to when he penned Ecclesiastes 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
At the end of the day the physical temple (or church) being built is nothing more than stone, timber and some precious metals and rocks. Just pretty works, nothing more. However, if we let the works we are doing, regardless how good or pretty they may be, get in the way of the work God is trying to do in us, then we have missed the mark and it is all in vain.
So in answer to your question "What is a modern Baptist Church building supposed to look like?" My answer is 'I don't care. What's going on inside?"
  2. Napsterdad's post in Will Puerto Rico finally become State of United States of America was marked as the answer
Most everything I have read agrees that Puerto Rico leans (some say heavily) to the left. You cannot deny that liberal policies are a much bigger burden on the government both in cost and bureaucracy; hence not only a drain on the treasury, but also a drain on the middle-class wallet, which is a favorite place for democrats to reside.
This would also lead to more liberal representation in both the house and senate, tipping those scales even more to left. Now we'd not only have a higher deficit and more taxes, but we'd have more liberal social policies passed through congress, which will do nothing but exasperate the financial problems and make America even more socially corrupt.
No thank you Puerto Rico, we have enough problems.
  3. Napsterdad's post in Senior old woman Jehovah Witness knocked on my door today was marked as the answer
You have to be careful when dealing with JWs. They have an intensive training program specifically intended to make their members recruiters. JWs take this training very seriously because they believe it is their ticket to salvation. If you are not equally prepared in your understanding of the Bible they will most likely catch you off guard and easily confused as they expound their doctrine using the same terms and phrases we use as Christians.
Always Be Ready Ministries  has a decent site on how to answer JWs (this is not an endorsement). But know that one website will not fully prepare you to take on a competent JW. They do take their training seriously. If you are not equally prepared you will quickly become confused with their corrupted use of Christian terms and phrases, which will likely make you nothing but frustrated, and potentially angry, with them. I know; it has happened to me (sadly I have a low boiling point). Not a good testimony.
In the US it is against Federal law to put anything in a mailbox on which no postage has been paid. I also don't know if it is the best of testimonies to pull their material and replace it with yours (there are always eyes watching). Perhaps a better strategy would be to just add your literature with theirs and let the recipient judge on their own between the truth and the tripe. This could also be a useful conversation starter on a return visit.
  4. Napsterdad's post in Altar Call for Salvation was marked as the answer
Noone on this forum can possibly answer this question. Why don't you ask the pastors you actually witness "not asking visitors or members if they will like to accept Jesus Christ for Salvation". Right or wrong, they are the ONLY ones that can give an answer to this. Perhaps you can then help them in some way. I certainly can't. I don't even know them or their church.
  5. Napsterdad's post in I was ask, did satan have sex with Eve, in the garden? was marked as the answer
Nowhere in the Bible can we see, or even infer that Satan had any kind of physical contact with Eve, much less sexual contact.
Genesis 3:1-6 ¶ Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
All that can be seen here is conversation, sight, and the actual eating of the fruit. Nothing else. If this is forced into verse six by Eve eating of the fruit, well, Adam did the same; does that mean he and Satan had relations too? Preposterous.
I have read that there are those that would try to force this narrative into verse 13 (beguiled). Again, preposterous.
Genesis 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
The definition for "nasha" the Hebrew for beguile is: to lead astray, i.e. to delude, or deceive. Nothing else. Even the more common "other versions" of the Bible don't take it any further: “deceived” (ESV, NIV, HCSB, NLT) or “tricked” (NRSV, NET).
The other verse I have found used to promote this nonsense is Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
"Thy seed and her seed". Thy is singular. Satan's seed. But if written accurately in support of this fictitious child, shouldn't that read "Your" seed, plural, as in both Satan's and Eve's?
And what is the name of this child? Where is he found in the scriptures? It can't have been Cain because Genesis 4:1 tells us: And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Adam knew Eve and Cain was conceived. Huh! Do the scriptures EVER say Satan knew Eve? Anywhere? NO.
This is nothing more than another person/group twisting the scriptures way out of context to fit their perverted views. Absolute nonsense.
