  1. I am curious, do go to see a doctor if you are ill? Do you take prescription medications or over-the-counter medications? Vitamins? Minerals?
  2. I thought the use of the word members restricted it. It was not a general statement. I do not agree with your interpretation. I think I have been very civil. I am not responsible for others misinterpretations.
  3. Notice in the OP I included the word, 'members.' That makes it much less general. Interestingly, at least to me, Darwin said, “Sympathy will have been increased through natural selection,” for those communities which include the greatest number of the most sympathetic members, would flourish best, and rear the greatest number of offspring.” Please don't go off on a rant about Darwin and derail the thread. Thanks.
  4. I thought you might know the meaning of the phrase.
  5. I am curious to learn what is mean by that phrase. That is why I answered. Can you enlighten me?
  6. Do you really believe they show no kindness to their own members? I have friends who are very kind who are members of the NAACP.
  7. To a degree I agree with you analysis of those groups. There are more gray areas concerning the ACLU than the other groups. But, the question was more narrow. Are the members of those organizations kind to each other? I expect they are as long as members toe the party line. Actually the ACLU has defended Christians. https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-defends-christian-who-distributed-religious-pamphlets-outside-arena https://www.aclu.org/aclu-defense-religious-practice-and-expression Christianity Today ran an interesting article on the ACLU, https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2006/may/22.64.html Do a google search on ACLU defends Christians There are areas where I have agreed with the ACLU stance. There are areas when I have not agreed with their stance. I can see nothing positive concerning the KKK, the Westboro Baptist Church, any of the White Supremacist's groups, the Nazis or Neo-Nazis, to name a few groups.
  8. I have no idea what is meant by "slice of life." Please enlighten me. No, I am not following you around. I simply replied when I saw something interesting and we engaged in discussion. I can learn nothing if I do not ask questions.
  9. Can an organization exist without its members showing kindness?
  10. Sorry to see you will stop discussing with me. There is no reasons friends cannot disagree. I had a good friend where I worked years ago. We disagreed on almost everything, but had great times talking. I respected his intelligence as he made me think. He told me one time, "I feel around the edge of the cup of your beliefs trying to find a crack. But when I approach the core you clamp down and do not a bend." It is no fun talking with only those who agree with me. Nothing can be learned when we talk to only those who agree with us. I enjoy rolling ideas, especially new ideas around in my head and at time have to modify my previously held opinion. In honesty, and I say this very gently and with respect, I believe you view is too narrow and refuse to entertain new ideas that may lead you to a deeper understanding. Now, I am old and have been around the barn numerous times. God has blessed me with extensive travel and interacting with numerous peoples and cultures has taught me that a broader view must be taken on many subjects to reach people. This does not mean compromise my religious beliefs. But it does mean being gentle with people. Blessings to your and yours. I wish you well in all you do.
  11. Sensual is not restricted to flesh. To me some sacred music is very sensual, uplifting my spirit toward God. I consider that very sensual and it is sensual in a good, positive way.
  12. I would most definitely find a new doctor! If you go to doctors, as suggested in your first sentence, is that not a contradiction of your second paragraph. Do you take any prescription medications? If so, is that not a contradiction of your second paragraph?
  13. Are there hymns that you believe contain bad theology and should not be sung in church?
  14. They all contain myths, untruths, and misleading theology. I will start a new thread.
  15. Music can be very sensual. Music can change moods. Compare a funeral dirge with a a John Phillips Souza march. One is depressing the other makes puts us in a happy mood. What references in the Bible do you use to determine if the music is scriptural or not?
  16. I seriously doubt there is any cancer associated with the vaccine. It is too soon for that to have developed and the two linked together. My guess is this is simply a false rumor started with someone with an agenda. I do not know if anything has been determined about the vaccine if a person already has cancer or is a cancer survivor. It is such a short period between when the first vaccines were administered that such research could not have been determined. I was among the first to receive the vaccine in January. That is only six months, not nearly enough time to determine what you suggested. Actually, if you research the 1918 Spanish Flu you will see that history does not bear out what you suggest. Indeed, it supports the opposite. So far what I have read is that the vaccine does not alter a person's DNA. If the DNA is not altered it cannot cause cancer. Also it has been determined that the vaccine does not alter the mRNA and this it is not true that the vaccine suppresses the genes that suppress tumors. https://www.mskcc.org/coronavirus/myths-about-covid-19-vaccines Please give me some sources supporting what you wrote. Thanks.
  17. Literal, no ... but the statement is bad theology. There is no truth in it. In fact, the entire hymn is full of heresy. So, does your church sing this hymn? Would you support having it sung in a worship service?
  18. Do you sing hymns that contain bad theology? Hymns such as: I'll Fly Away Bring Them In He Lives Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling Away in the Manager All these hymn I've listed I have loved. But I have grown and realize there is one or more theological problems with each hymn. The one hymn I really do not like is: There is a Fountain Years ago I had a friend who almost did not continue to attend church and become a Christian because of this hymn. The opening line, "There is a fountain filled with blood" almost made her throw up and there is no theological truth in that line. Indeed, it is an untrue statement.
  19. Your argument is like arguing that no one dies of cancer. Technically this is correct. People die who have cancer because of the ravishing effects of the disease. For instance, I have a friend who's life partner had cancer and died from blood loss when the cancer ate through his aorta. Technically he did not die of cancer. So, to me, your statement does not hold. She was on the ventilator because she had COVID. She would have died much sooner if she had not been placed on the ventilator. It is highly unlikely she would have contacted COVID if she had been vaccinated. And, in that unlikely event she would not have died. It has been shown that people who have been vaccinated and catch COVID have light cases and recovery quickly. IMHO it is very unwise not to receive your vaccination.
  20. What you say is probably true. But that does not negate the fact that the people who are loosing their life to COVID now are those who are unvaccinated. I simply cannot understand their thinking. I have read of people who, with COVID, were in the ICU being put on a respirator who were insisting that COVID did not exist. People are buying into alternative false reporting and paying for it with their lives.
  21. Missouri woman didn't want a COVID-19 vaccine for fear of side effects. She caught the Delta variant and died. https://www.yahoo.com/news/missouri-woman-didnt-want-covid-144312388.html I do not understand people like this woman. I am sorry she refused the vaccine, got sick and died ... but I simply do not understand. I am sure she went to see her doctors when ill or for checkups. I expect she took prescription medicine, and that has side effects. I just do not understand their thinking or, to me, lack of thinking. These tragedies should not happen. Side effects signify that the immune system is reacting and building immunity. Here is a chart of side effect effects with percentages given.
  22. Rather like the discussion about eating meat offered to idols in the New Testament.
