  1. Thanks, good reply. I was thinking much the same. People have a propensity to dump current thinking onto ancient peoples ... and that is a mistake. We have no context of how the marijuana smoke got there. You are right there is no Biblical mandate to use or not to use marijuana or tobacco for that matter. Of course, tobacco was totally unknown in that part of the world at that time.

  4. Why would they lie? I am not a cynical, conspiracy theory person. I spend my working life doing research, finding information for engineers, computer programmers, etc. I learned that trained experts in their field do not go around looking to lie. I am sure the finds are real. The interpretation of finds, well I leave that up to people trained in the field of archeology. My personal philosophy is follow the leads to the truth and if I don't like the truth, then I have to reorder my beliefs to incorporate the truth. Facts can be nasty things showing up our preconceived pet beliefs. [
  5. We will probably never know the context in which "pot" was used. It does not bother me how it was used and does not affect my beliefs in any way.
  6. Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it very much.
  7. A very interesting video on the meeting of two strangers five times. There are lessons in this short video for all people, Christian and otherwise.
  8. The church I attend has no deacons. We have ministry groups. The head of each ministry group is a member of the church council. in face, anyone who wants to attend a church council can do so. The reason we have no deacons is because when the church was founded and the question of deacons came up, someone asked, "Has anyone been in a church where deacons did anything beside cause trouble?" No one had and it was decided we would have no deacons. Two years ago we moved away from Roberts Rules of Order and majority rule. We now have consensus rule. If everyone is not for it, the study c

  11. Would you elaborate on your reply. Thanks.
  12. A different perspective: “Ask any person who was chronically ill or disabled before the pandemic how life changed for them during the pandemic and we can’t say it changed as much as the average “healthy” person’s life did. We were already used to being at home. We were already painfully adjusted to missing events. Eventually, you stop missing certain things and accept the home life because you have to adapt to your new normal or you will go insane with grief from your life’s lost possibilities. My husband and I had hoped that healthy, mobile Americans would look beyond themselves and
  13. Years ago, I had a neighbor who had the following sign on her kitchen wall. "God, there ain't nothing gonna happen today that you and I can't handle together."
  14. We must never try to limit God to time, place, or our purpose. God is always bigger than the little 'self' box we live in.
  15. Preach Christ, not social issues. If they come to Christ he will work on their social issue beliefs.
  16. My understanding is the "Universal Hand Sign for Help" was developed in Canada during the pandemic shutdown. Domestic violence was discovered to be on the rise. The hand sign is not restricted to home violence, but can be used in other situations. Here is a link to a video of the sign:

  18. We are supposed to respect our elders. I have always tried to do just that. However, I noticed recently I have a problem. It is harder and harder to find someone more elderly that I. [Should I laugh or cry. This is so true for me.]
  19. The Baptist Church i am a member of is not IFB. That being said, we have always had one or more members who were Asian. They add much to our congregation. I have seen no hate in our congregation. Indeed, we are a very welcoming church. Everyone needs Christ. Years ago, in another church, I taught an International Sunday School Class. The majority were Vietnamese and Chinese. They were a great group. Oh, and talk about good food at class parties. Makes my mouth water to think about those parties.
