James1023 got a reaction from swathdiver in In Great Need of Work!
Been looking for full time work for nearly 2 months.  Thought I found it twice just to get laid off both times.  Please pray for me in Jesus Grace I might find work.
Beginning to think I will never find a job again.

James1023 reacted to Alan in I'm a secular historian, looking for more information on Peter Ruckman
Brother Cloud, in the https://www.wayoflife.org/database/ruckman.html  article, has this conclusion.
    "CONCLUSION

While I have serious problems with Dr. Ruckman, I also have serious problems with many of his detractors. Many of Peter Ruckman’s most bitter enemies are trying to discredit the idea that there is an authoritative Bible anywhere in the world. They have their own rotten agenda, undermining men’s faith in the preservation of God’s Word (in any practical sense) and attempting to pollute their minds with the strange, unscriptural, convoluted theories of modern textual criticism.

“Who, then, can we trust?” some might be thinking? The Word of God says, “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm ... Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is” (Jer. 17:5, 7).

Man is defiled even at his best. Our confidence must be in Jesus Christ and in His eternal Word, and let no man shake your confidence in that."

James1023 got a reaction from Ukulelemike in Faith alone?
24). Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.                                                  25) But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.                                      26)  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.           Galatians 3:24-26
So this makes it clear we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ

I think a lot would depend on the level or differences in doctrinal matters. In other words some doctrinal matters are of more importance than others. For that reason it is hard for me to consider this a blanket question unless specific doctrines are brought into the question.

According to a reliable source: the whale died of indigestion. The SPCA arrested Jonah and was fined for cruelty to an animal.  ? ??

Lol Yes, I think I agree. Although, maybe Jeremiah was just saying that gold covered Christmas trees were not acceptable for the Christmas celebration. I wonder if they had turkey for Christmas dinner or maybe it was goat as a sort of middle eastern adaption to the Roman Catholic version of Christmas, or the American version of Christmas.

I have come to the same conclusion that the context of this passage is talking about worshiping idols.  While I respect those that hold to a no tree conviction, I disagree with it. I hear a lot about the paganism of it and that part I get, but I have yet to see someone not have tree because of its pagan background and hold that same conviction with our current calendar.... and don't get me started on the cross. ?

James1023 reacted to No Nicolaitans in Why Do We Christians Have Christmas Trees When God Condemned the Christmas Tree In Jeremiah 10:1-15
Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

That was spoken to Israel, and it refers to worshipping false gods/idols/graven images that were crafted from the wood of the tree by a "workman". For example...

Isa 44:13-17 13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. 14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. 15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. 16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: 17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

Jer 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

...and there is the proof that these false gods/idols/graven images...which couldn't move on their own, couldn't do evil on their own, nor could do good on their own...were being worshipped.

It's not about the tree; it's about what is crafted from the tree...aka...false gods/idols/graven images.
I personally don't know anyone who decorates a Christmas tree with actual silver and gold (that is what the verse says after all), nor do I know anyone who bows down and worships a Christmas tree...praying that it won't move on its own and sneak into their bedroom at night, pleading to it not to bring evil upon them, or petitioning it to bestow good favor upon them.

James1023 reacted to weary warrior in Reverend?
The name or title "reverend" only appears 1 time in all of scripture.
Psa 111:9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend ishis name.
The only time it is used is as a name for God. He is the "revered one" if you will. So I can't help but wonder how we, the humble servants of God, can have the temerity to refer to ourselves, or let others refer to us, as "Reverend". We are not ever to be "revered ones", but humble servants who lead the church in grace and humility and truth by our example.
