My wife and I stopped "celebrating" Valentine's Day many years ago. We realized that when you openly express your love for each other every day of the year, you don't need a special day set aside to openly express your love for each other. Besides, giving flowers or some other special gift on random days of the year seems a far more sincere and meaningful expression of your love for someone rather than on a day when it is "mandated".

I agree 100% with the sentiment here. Every time I see one of these adds I feel terrible, oh gag me! It completely loses sight of the real Jesus Christ of scripture by erasing aspects like His Divinity and His role as Judge and King. When I was younger in the faith, I fell for crud like this. Really not a good thing to see the wrong Christ preached.

Steven Yeadon reacted to Salyan in John MacArthur's Church Implicated in Protecting Abusive Husbands
This is one area where I feel our churches struggle to provide appropriate and helpful counsel and support, and often fail to support the victim. I’ve heard of multiple instances of wives being counseled to ‘forgive and return’ when the husband is saying all the “right things”, but not demonstrating any practical changes in his behavior. I fear we make it too easy for a manipulative man to talk his way out of church discipline, while not adequately protecting the victimized wife and children.

  6. Praying
Steven Yeadon reacted to BrotherTony in Please pray for my sister, Michele...
My brother in law's birthday is today. When I sent him a "Happy Birthday" wish on FB, he sent me a Message saying my sister Michele in Augusta, GA was in the hospital. She had a very serious flare-up of her MS yesterday and went into convulsions. He was at work (he works as a Richmond County (Augusta) Sheriff's deputy. He couldn't get ahold of her when he called, so he asked a friend to go and check on her. The friend found her in serious condition and called Al at work. His supervisor sent him home. He got some meds into her, and she slept until 6 PM last night. When she got up, it had started all over again. So, he took her to the ER....They admitted her. Blood work has come back and the doctor told them that the drug gabapentin wasn't being excreted through her kidney's like it's supposed to be (the same reason I quit taking this drug about 10 weeks ago), and that he would need to keep her at least overnight, and if no improvement, with the tests she needs, until at least Tuesday. Al HAS to work today...plus it's his 68th birthday. He's stressed and needs your prayers as well. I'm not sure if he's told my mother yet or not. I'm going to try to call her in just a few minutes to make sure she knows. This whole situation could use some prayer...I know Al and Michele would appreciate it, and so would the rest of our family. This is the second worst MS episode Michele has had in the past six months. The disease is progressing.  Thank-you in advance.

My brother-in-law has been in the hospital in Augusta, GA for nearly a week now on oxygen...they just told his wife he has pnuemonia (Covid), and they are planning on putting him on a ventilator tonight if his breathing hasn't improved by 9 Eastern. His wife is still recovering from covid, as are his two sons who live in the same mobile home park in N. Augusta, SC. Many in our family in the Augusta area have covid right now. Many HAVE BEEN vaccinated...I'm sure they ALL would appreciate your prayers.

Trump did very poorly with the Covid situation, he handled his Twitter account very poorly, the vice president he treated very wrong and that crazy rally at the end was wrong. Trump six months before the election saying that there’s gonna be fraud in the mail, this is just some of the things he did that I didn’t agree with, but I did voted for him twice. I was hoping America can stay conservative for a little longer, but we don’t have that choice anymore.

Sad to say there is no moderate or in the middle anymore and Trump did what he had to do for his for years. I voted for him but not again, not after his last six months in office. his actions made me change my mind. He did his Duty, but lost control. I think for a Republican to win now, this person will have to support the liberal agenda, if he or she have any hope of winning at all. Right now, I am also a independent voter, but there are many atheists in this party. We are getting to a point where I believe Christians might not even vote anymore. Vote for one of the two evils. Not a good choice

Steven Yeadon reacted to Danny Carlton in Republican Platform
A check of the actual 1956 Republican platform shows that the claims are false.
    https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/republican-party-platform-1956

There is no mention of low-income communities. It does mention supporting states in dealing with economic problems, not the Federal government doing it themselves.
"We shall continue to seek extension and perfection of a sound social security system." does not mean "extension of social security" because SS was very different back then. It hadn't been raided by Congress so it meant preventing it from becoming a political slush fund. Now that it is, any "expension" means continuing its use as a slush fund, and ignoring whether or not it's sound.
The "refugees" they referred to were people escaping communist countries. Democrats today try to hamper them from coming here, and welcome people who would rather feed of America's prosperity than work toward making their home country better.
Extending the minimum wage laws did not mean raising the minimum wage, but making sure all businesses obeyed it.
The wording for these promised were to make each of these more efficient, not to wildly expand them and throw taxpayer money at problems (making sure there would be enough kick backs for the politicians pushing the added spending)
Claiming this is like the DNC today is like saying a drug addict is the same as gramma picking up some aspirin at the grocery store.

Steven Yeadon reacted to Alan in Calvinism or Arminianism? How do you answer?
I would repeat my previous answer. I am a Biblicist. Neither John Calvin, nor Jacob Arminius, were correct in there writings.  And, neither one is a standard for doctrine.
If the person is seeking a good answer, and he is a just man, than your answer will help him in his quest for the truth. Proverbs 9:9 "Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning."
If he is a fool, and just looking for an argument, then don't waste your time.

Steven Yeadon got a reaction from Pastor Matt in Texas Ban On Most Abortions Goes Into Effect
My prayer is that abortions will eventually stop. I know this looks highly unlikely, but God can do anything. For now, I am thanking Him for stopping any abortions in America. Murders stopped are murders stopped, after all. I know we live in what seems more and more like a modern version of pagan Rome. Romans left babies with defects or that were unwanted outside as trash for the dogs to eat them. We murder babies while in the womb for the same reasons. So, I know what my prayer is up against, but I celebrate any victories God gives us in praise to Him. I know that abortion will only truly end when Christ returns and punishes the wicked.

Thank you for your counsel. I will have to find a church where I can help out with visitation. I am currently between churches.
Honestly, I was told by friends at my last church to make a book out of my testimony. I guess I got wrapped up in the idea of making a book because of them, and the idea I could help the Kingdom with my story. I see now, though, that my testimony doesn't need to be a book. In fact it can just be a short story that builds to an invitation. I already have a rough draft of that short story, so I do want to use it to help the Kingdom, but you are right that I need to learn how to witness to others face to face and seek counsel from those around me on how I witness before jumping into something like a short story.

Thank you for your reply's. I will have to read that article you linked me Jordan Kurecki.
I thought I was in a solid bible-believing church until I started to read the bible closely to study it. I now ask pointed questions and get responses like "God will fix our doctrinal problems in heaven, so don't worry too much about doctrine" from a church leader I respect highly. I increasingly feel isolated and need to find a church. Jordan recommended one and things have quieted down enough to go to a new church this Sunday. It has taken me time because of my desire to stay at my Southern Baptist church, which is just not going to happen.
Also, what do you guys and gals think of Baptist Board? Something feels too confrontational about that board to really try and fellowship well.

    -EDIT-
    Nice article, thank you.

I had an aunt who was disabled, illiterate and her speech was, I don't know how to explain it, perhaps I should say distorted. But I am sure she was saved. My dad said as his elder sister she brought up the  younger ones.  He was one of 14 children in a poor part of London.  I know some died in infancy, but I have managed to trace 10 of them on family research sites.

    I third  brother Alan's advice.
Our church does not have any type of entertainment worship. We just have a Grand Piano, a 1905 Broadwood..
A few years ago we were looking for a pastor and considered an Australian Baptist.  He wanted to bring in a 'worship leader'  who we suspected would be his wife.  The membership rejected him but one single man and two families, totalling 8 members left.  It was suspected that our churh may have to close as we only had a small membership. However the Lord has blessed us.  While we still are looking for a pastor, we have had three former members who had moved away a number of new members from other churches.  One said, "I was starved of teaching there."  We have recently had a number of regular ladies from another church, and others not so regular.  We also have a couple in our evening service, from a Baptist church about five miles away which doesn't always have an evening service.
Our problem is that we have only two young families, and the leaders are knocking on a bit.  We pray for more younger people to join us, but most younger people are only interested entertainment type services. We used to have a stand at the freshers week at the local university.  We used to get a number of students from the university, but now they ask   "What is the worship like?" instead of "What is the preaching like?" The last student we had was a Czech girl who was with us for a couple of years then went to France to study, then came back till she graduated, then left us to go back to Czech to get married.
We also get a Lithuanian girl who works on the farms from time to time (she started picking strawberries, but when they found she could speak several languages, they put her in the staff shop) she goes back home when there is no work here.
A young man I invited to our Easter service last year has applied for baptism but we have difficulty in deciding if he is saved as he is not good a expressing himself.  I believe that the way of salvation is available even to the simplest person who trusts in Jesus. but others think that he should be able to make a full declaration without prompting.  I find this one difficult.

Such as church has left her first estate and turned to entertaining goats and has forsaken the sheep.  Goats probably run the place and it is no longer a place for sheep.  Goats want to be entertained, sheep want to be discipled.  Time to find a New Testament church of the kind that Christ built and died for.
