    Repentance CANNOT save

I'm writing on the topic of repentance in regards to salvation because this is a subject that is very misinterpreted today, (even amongst Independent, Fundamental Baptists) and there’s a LOT of false teaching out there under the guise of repentance that is actually teaching a works-based salvation. The mistake that most people make is that, whenever they see the word "repent" in the Bible, they add these words after it:  “of your sins”.
So whenever they see the word "repent" they just automatically add "of sin"... repent of your sin.
In fact, they often think that just the word "repent" means to turn from sin, but the Bible does not teach that, and since the King James Holy Bible is the Word of God, it should be our final authority on doctrine.
I've noticed that typically, one can find the meaning of a word used in the Bible by searching for its first appearance, where it is often defined.  So before we study repentance in regard to salvation, let’s just get an understanding of what the word "repent" even means in the Bible, by going to its first use. To the best of my knowledge, that is in Exodus 32:12, we have Moses speaking to God:
“Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath and repent of this evil against thy people.”
So we can see repent means "to turn".  Moses is pleading with God to turn from His anger or wrath towards his people. It continues...
“Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.” “And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.”
That proves that repenting does not mean "repent of your sins" because we KNOW God doesn’t have any sins, God never has sinned and God is perfect in EVERY way ---and yet--- did God repent in this scripture?
    Yes, He did.
He turned..... He turned from one course of action unto another. He didn’t turn from sin, He turned from anger, He turned from his wrath, He turned from the judgement He was going to pour out. So we can be sure that repent does not mean to repent of your sins in order to be saved.
It's interesting to note, that if you do a word study on the word "repent" in the King James Bible (the ONLY Bible I will use), you'll discover that the one who "repents" the MOST in the entire Bible is : God!
"Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." (Jonah 3:9-10)
“And God saw their works,” What did God see? Works. “ God saw their works,” now he is going to tell us what those works were: “that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.”
That right there says when you turn from your evil way, that is your WORKS, so if you believe that a person has to turn from their evil way and believe on Christ, then here’s what you're saying is required to be saved: to believe on Christ and have works!
The Bible says salvation is without works and Jonah 3:10 says turning from your sins or turning from your evil ways is works, so that’s why this is such an important doctrine to understand and be clear on!
Of course, the devil wants to get you to trust in your works to save you --- this goes all the way back to Cain and Abel, where Cain is trusting his works instead of the blood of the lamb, all the way back to the Tower of Babel, where they’re trying to do their works/build their way to heaven, and all throughout Galatians he warns us: It's a false gospel when you think that you are justified by works, all throughout Romans he tells us we are not justified by works.
All throughout the Bible God warns us.. 'trust Christ for salvation, don’t trust works' !
The devil wants to get in the back door, he doesn’t just want to come right out and say, 'trust works!' knowing good and well that the Bible says NOT to trust works, so he wants to deceive you so you think:
"Well... it's not works but you do have to repent of your sins",
    .....OR....
"Well.... I’m not saying it’s works but you can’t just live however you want, you gotta do something right... You gotta at least go to church three times a month or something, I mean you know you gotta do something right?"
    NO !!
You have to do nothing because Jesus did everything, you believe on Christ, HIS works are sufficient, we don’t have to add anything to His works, JESUS CHRIST PAID IT ALL.

Why do you think nobody knows when they we saved? I remember the EXACT moment I got saved, in 2004.
I remember hearing the Gospel but never understanding it until I came to the lowest, most humbling point in my life when I sought God with all of my heart, soul & mind sincerely. It was THEN that the Holy Spirit enlightened me to the understanding of His Gospel, that I am a sinner who deserves Hell, but that God's love & mercy prompted Him to sent His Son into this wicked, fallen world to do for us what we ourselves CANNOT do....which is pay our debt of sin & go to Heaven. And while Christ did this for all, it finally became clear that "all" included little ole me.  The verse I heard all my life, John 3:16, but never grasped the meaning of, was being manifest in my mind, soul & spirit for the first time.
It was like God reached down with the greatest gift one could ever hope to receive, salvation from Hell, (with my name on it) & presented it to me, with Jesus Christ being the proof of purchase..
And I, with all my heart, BELIEVE it.
THAT VERY SAME MOMENT I believed, I  couldn't help but announce it (even though I knew God already could see in my heart & knew) & I was instantly CHANGED.
    I was reborn.
I really don't think a person even can be saved & NOT KNOW they are.

Repenting of your sins is a work. When you turn from your sins, you stop committing a sin.
It is turning away from a particular sin.
    That doesn't save.
If a person stops drinking booze, they have repented of that sin.  Using Bob Hutton's definition, it is a change of mind (not wanting to drink), which leads to an "action" (quitting drinking).
You are bundling repenting of sin with conviction of sin, which is when one realizes they are a sinner deserving of Hell.
Conviction of sin is  what will LEAD a person to seek salvation, knowing they can do nothing to save their own soul, and then they are prime for hearing the Gospel and BELIEVING it.
Believing that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, died to pay the penalty of our sins, past present & future, was buried and 3 days later rose again bodily....THAT is what saves someone. BELIEF.
the Gospel is about what JESUS DID to save us, not which sins we have turned from.

    The first one is:
"Are you suggesting that one cannot have assurance of salvation?"

Are you suggesting that one cannot have assurance of salvation?
If, as you say, "true" salvation is linked to a turning from sin.....then it cannot be by faith alone.
It is either by GRACE through faith ALONE,or it is by works.
It cannot be BOTH a gift AND a wage.
Have you turned from every sin in your life?
“And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.”
    .......Romans 11:6

    Yes, I agree.
But you are talking as a believer already.
I am speaking of those who are not saved.
When we go soul winning we encounter some strange situations. Especially in the ghetto areas. Sometimes we'll knock a door and the person opens it and clouds upon clouds of marijuana smoke comes billowing out from behind them.
Do I tell them they MUST stop smoking marijuana or Christ will turn them away?
    NO...that is works salvation.
i give them the Gospel of Jesus Christ in hope that they will BELIEVE, and pray that  the Holy Spirit convicts them of their drug use.
Repent of your sins false gospel says you must stop smoking marijuana IN ORDER TO be saved.
    Do you see the distinction?

Rice & Roloff must not believe the Bible then.
As I showed in my OP, "repent" simply means to turn from, or change from one course of action to another. It is certainly NOT required for salvation.
People mistakenly use the word "repent" in conjunction with sin and create a works-based false gospel.
The phrase "repent of your sin" is not even in the Bible.  It's an extra-biblical phrase found in texts outside of the Bible like the ones you quoted.
Why is it that of everyone in the Bible, God is the one who repented most? We know God has no sin.  So why then, would God repent?
Where does the Bible say we must repent of our sin to be saved? Perhaps I have overlooked it somewhere because I do not recall it ever stating repenting of sin was a salvation requirement.
And, how is it possible to repent of ALL sin?
If repentance is required for salvation, that would mean salvation is by works.  Allow me to illustrate:
Imagine a heroin addict panhandling on the sidewalk.  He is highly addicted to heroin. He cannot stop using, no matter how hard he tries. A believer approaches him with a Bible and shows him from directly from the Word of God how to be saved, and gives him the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The man BELIEVES it with all his heart. He understands he is a sinner, and is relieved that Jesus Christ died for his sins so he could be saved from Hell. Together they pray and the man vocally proclaims his belief in the work Jesus Christ did to save him & he asks God to give him the gift of eternal life so he doesn't go to Hell. The man says he now knows for certain he is now saved.....
Swath.....are you saying that this man wasn't saved because he did not repent of his sins?
And what if he sees his dealer approach him 20 minutes later & he gives in to his temptation and gets high?
Did he just "lose" his salvation?
One more thing swath: Have you  repented of ALL your sin? When you got saved, you repented/turned from all of your sin, right?  So that means you must not have committed a SINGLE sin your entire post-salvation life, right?  Not a single lie, nor lusting after anyone who isn't your spouse, no feelings of envy or covetousness, no thoughts of foolishness, not a single sin WHATSOEVER, is that correct?

Yeah I should have been more specific. The original post by Matthew 24 was good and I'm sure that many followers here are good.
But some of YOU (aimed more specifically) seem to be Sodomite sympathizers at the very least.
That's why you get triggered like a snowflake by some bold preaching.

BTW, you can go back just 20 yrs and find a lot of IFB pastors talking just like Anderson.

Go search Mark Turner sermon "Be Instance".

Here is a sample of that. This is old school Baptist preaching.

    That's not profanity.
Those "f words" are proper when speaking about such dogs.
Sodomites are reprobate. I'm about 50 yrs old and have yet to EVER see one Sodomite get saved.
There are a bunch of fake Christian sodomites however. They are setting up church everywhere so they can take over Christianity.
Maybe you are one of them.
AmeriKa needs a whole lot more bold preachers just like Steven Anderson.

And thank God there are about 6 more that have started churches over the last few years and DOZENS more are coming up.
While these true Bible preachers rise up for a real revival in AmeriKa, you keyboard warriors will still just be keyboard warriors.
Half of you just stay home instead of going to church and the other half of you go and get your ears tickled by Joyce Meyers or Joel Osteen.

Are all of these bible words? Is this how Jesus approached sinners?
When someone posted this video on Facebook, Anderson himself commented "I hate them even more than that video can express."
    Love thy neighbor
    Love thy enemy
Jesus directly commanded "Love others even as I have loved you." So who are we COMMANDED to hate? And who do not fall under these categories to love?
    Anderson is a deceiver.

You could say that, but then your foundation for rationality will go out the window. Your comment makes little sense:
    • Any believer who sincerely loves and obeys God will deliver the gospel to EVERY CREATURE, as commanded.
    — Anderson will not even try to win someone in the gay community because he thinks they cannot be saved.
    • The fact that you used his "accidental witness" to try to shame others for not witnessing is insane.
    — Deal with the fact that his witness to them was an accident first, then we can move on to other people, which are not currently the topic at hand.
    • For you to claim that obeying our Lord's command will destroy our testimony to a Hindu or Muslim, you apparently do not understand that God didn't command us to worry about reputation, He commanded us to take the gospel to every creature. Jesus worried a lot about his reputation to the Pharisee's, right? He avoided certain sinners so as not to offend the Sanhedrin, right? Oh. No, the Jesus of the Bible made himself of no reputation and set out to heal the broken. All of them.
    — The BIBLICAL reaction to that command is that we are DEMONSTRATING our faithful obedience to Christ by obeying His command to love all others as He loved us; that is the mark of His disciples. Where do we see that love for others in Anderson's rhetoric?

Your support for Anderson is not based on a faithful adherence to Scriptural truth, but rather is in spite of serious Scriptural warnings about men like him.
A discerning believer will not be blind to such serious error.

Faithful Word accidentally gives the gospel to more homos than the people that say hes wrong for hating them. Romans 1 clearly says that God made them that way. I could say that the preachers that the preachers who love homos hate hindu's and muslims, because they are destroying their testimony to them. It is still illegal in many places. Do you think its a coincidence that we just now started siding with the world on this issue? Like, christians of the past didnt understand, but now we finally understand that we should love them.

I'm glad to meet another fan. I've been saved for 20 years and had been a pretty lame Christian for most of that time. After watching After the Tribulation on YouTube nearly four years ago I have really grown. Since then I've been able to meet up with like-minded Believers and we go  soulwinning every Sunday. It's been great. If you're close by you should come to the soulwinning marathon in Jacksonville Florida this weekend, August 6th. I'll be there.

I am sure not everyone that goes out is thorough with presenting the gospel, but that isnt because Anderson isnt teaching a thorough presentation. None of this is the reason that he is hated. I mean more than half of IFB preachers dont even go soul winning and I dont see anyone hating on them. It's really ridiculous.

So I guess Anderson is supposed to force people to come to church, get baptized, and teach them. The numbers of people that truly get saved is irrelevant, the point is they are putting in the work that most are failing to do. Only criticism comes from the brethren and accusing them of not presenting the gospel correctly...like they just walk up quote john 3:16 and ask them to pray.

I have always thought it possible that everyone was giants then. After all, if one lived over 900 years, what would be the reason we would assume they would stop growing at 16 years or 18 years, like today, with so much shorter a lifespan?  Before the flood everything seems to have been much larger: giant sloths, lizards, snakes, rhinos, elk, etc, including the dinosaurs, all huge! There was greater air pressure and a higher amount of oxygen, by about 50%, and a virtually perfect atmosphere, so why wouldn't they get much bigger?

    Brother Wretched,
That was certainly an interesting thought.  It is a completely new thought for me, since I had never encountered it before.  Thus I have indeed given it some thoughtful consideration.  At the present time, however, I would lean away from that understanding, since everything else within the immediate context of Genesis 6:1-4 seems to be focused upon mankind, not animal kind.

I think something that people ignore is that men like Goliath were called giants - they were just big guys, not "Jack and the beanstalk" giants.
Taken like that, the giants were men noted for their size, and the mighty men were simply men noted for their fighting skill, as with the "mighty men of valour" noted in various places of the OT.
And I agree with Pastor Scott - two separate groups of guys noted for different reasons, who were prominent at that time.
