D-28 Player got a reaction from Invicta in A question about Calvin
Calvin was just a teacher of the scriptures and would be the first one to tell you not to follow him but Christ.
His writings were expositions on the scriptures not "new scripture".

And if you continue as you have I will expect you to be unnecessarily aggressive and rude.
Just as a physically dead man cannot dial 911 to call for help, so a spiritually dead man cannot call on God for salvation lest the ability be granted to him by God. Please note that this means that regeneration must take place before man can repent or express faith in Christ, thus meaning that I have answered your question and any further claims that I have not are simply not true.
You don't believe that and you won't accept any answer I give you and, at this point, I don't really care.
Honestly, what we're seeing right now is precisely why IFBs have the reputation that you have.

If he had said that he became a Christian by not wanting to go to Hell, that would have been a false belief. But I think that repenting and receiving Christ because you fear Hell and understand that Christ is God's remedy for sin and that Christ died to assuage God's wrath is perfectly reasonable.

Honestly not much. I'm a fan of "old time" and string band music so I'm familiar with the folk song but I honestly didn't know it was based on a real event until you said so.
I googled it and in 1913 a Jewish factory supervisor was charged and convicted of murdering a little girl It was a controversial case because apparently some witnesses were not allowed to testify and some say that anti-semitism played a role in his conviction He was sentenced to death for the murder
The governor of Georgia commuted his sentence to life in prison and this so enraged the community that some local men broke him out of prison and lynched him
That's about all I know about it
There were two movies made about it: One called "The Don't Know" in 1937 and the 1988 mini-series you're probably referring to
There was also a Broadway musical made about it called "Parade" which looks pretty interesting
(Please excuse the lack of punctuation as several keys on y keyboard have stopped working for some reason)
