I've been here for quite a while but I don't think I've introduced myself.  I am an elderly female, been in Baptist churches most of my life.  Made a profession of salvation when I was about 10ish.  but really think I got saved in 1982.   I find this forum to be a great place to ask questions that may present  divisions  if asked at church.  Some simple, some complex, none meant to cause issues here.  I'm old enough to remember when the sermons were longer than the song services, and sin was preached on.

Yes, money is the root of ALL evil and that's a good place to start looking for the lies and motives.  People tend to believe anything but truth instead of looking for the truth

Baptistsenior reacted to BrotherTony in Praising God for a Wonderful First Visit With My Newfound Brother!
As I had posted in one of the forums (believe it was the prayer forum), I went to Illinois this past weekend to meet a brother my other siblings never knew we had. He was found through a blood test by 23 and Me when my baby sister from that side of the family took the blood test to find out if she had any issues in her blood. Little did she know that it would lead to us finding out about this sibling. So, it was by the grace of God that we found out. It had been a lifelong dream of Shawn's to find his birth father. He had taken the tests in hopes of finding out who he was. He was disappointed to find out that Dad had passed away in 2000 from colon cancer, but, was greatly excited by the discovery that he had many siblings from his father's second marriage!
My sister Becky, from Pekin, IL, and my sister Michele, whom had flown from Augusta, GA to Peoria, IL, and my wife and I, who of course, drove up to Pekin, IL from Murfreesboro, TN were the only ones who could make the trip to meet Shawn, but this was good! We got to face time with our brother, Mike and his wife Melenda (from outside of Tampa Bay), which made Shawn's day! He has received a very warm, loving embrace from my family. My mother has adopted him as her second son, in line of succession, me being the oldest. Shawn is one year younger than I, with Mike following two years behind Shawn.
We showed Shawn around that town we grew up in, ate at our fathers favorite diner in Pekin, IL, the Busy Corner Grill, and spent several hours talking with him at Becky's house and at the hotel where we both stayed during our visit to Pekin. It was a GREAT visit, PTL! We are praying that Shawn and his family (his daughter, son-in-law, son and daughter-in-law, mother and grandchild) will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ. We covet your prayers as we continue to get to know Shawn and the rest of our newfound relatives in Boise.
    Thank you.

I don't think we will ever know the answer to that, not when toddlers who die from physical injuries are included in the covid death count.  They need to stop paying hospitals extra for covid cases.

I admit that I may have misunderstood your meaning.  Being old or a women was only meant to show that I am not a pastor, theologian, etc.  I'm just a old time Baptist that is still trying to learn.  as the anabaptists etc of the past, I don't fit in either of those two belief systems.  It seems to me that both are spawns of catholicism

I suppose neither were first, as both streams of theology Originate from more recent founders. The Bible position would have been first. ??‍♀️

Baptistsenior reacted to Pastor Scott Markle in Fatalism
No!  The dictionary definition for "fatalism" is "the belief that all events are determined by fate and, therefore, inevitable; acceptance of every event as inevitable."  The first difference between a believer in the Biblical God and a fatalist is the the "source" of "determination" for events -- For the fatalist that "source" is a completely impersonal, uncaring "fate;" whereas for the believer that "source" is a very personal, great and good God.  From this first difference flows various others -- "Fate" is impersonal, and therefore neither wise nor unwise in its arrangement of events; whereas God is all-knowing and all-wise in His arrangement of events.  "Fate" is impersonal, and therefore neither righteous nor unrighteous in its arrangement of events; whereas God is all-holy and all-righteous in His arrangement of events (including the administration of rewards and judgments).  "Fate" is impersonal, and therefore neither gracious nor malicious in its arrangement of events; whereas God is all-good and abundantly gracious in His arrangement of events (especially in establishing His plan of eternal salvation for lost sinners).
Even concerning the matter of our appointed time for death, God is different than "fate."  "Fate" just "is."  On the other hand, God sets the appointed time of our death in accord with His perfect, righteous, and gracious wisdom.  Furthermore, some Scripture appears to reveal that the extent/time of lives can be (in accord with God's all-knowing foreknowledge) extended or shortened, depending on our behavior.
I pray that this answer is helpful and good to the use of edifying.

So, are you asking what I would consider myself?  If so, I would answer --
    1.  I am a ZERO point Calvinist (in relation to the doctrine of salvation).
    2.  I am a THREE point Arminian (in relation to the doctrine of salvation) (because three of the points are mutually exclusive, being an either/or proposition, having no third option).
    3.  I am TWO points neither, and thus am not actually either Calvinist or Arminian in my doctrinal system (in relation to the doctrine of salvation).
    4.  In fact, I would simply say that I seek to be Biblical in my system of belief, and thus will hold to any point from any system that I find to be Biblical, but will stand contrary to any point from any system that I find to be unbiblical.  (Note: This includes whether I find a point to be unbiblical in the Calvinist system, Arminian system, or even Fundamental Baptist system.  I am not bound under the authority of any system or movement.  Rather, I am bound under the authority of GOD'S HOLY WORD!!!)

As for the issue of infants, Paul, I believe, made this answer clear, for those who will hear it: Romans 7:
7: What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
8: But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9: For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10: And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
11: For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
Look particularly at verse 9: How was Paul, born Saul, under the law of Moses, alive once without the law? Simply, as a child, before the law came, or came to his understanding. Once it came, then that sin, which was present, (but ineffective, sleeping, dormant?) REVIVED, and he spiritually died.  This can only speak to the idea that, while present, sin has no effect on that person until they understand the law, or if you will, right and wrong, and can sin willfully, (doesn't mean they do, just the understanding of it awakens), at which point, that present sin revives, and that person becomes spiritually dead and in need of salvation. It isn't about an AGE of accountability, it is about understanding, which brings accountability.

PTL. I Love the little Word "ALL" and the little word "all" is not hard to understand except for some "religion club" members!!

    God our Savior,
4 who desires "all" men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave Himself as a ransom for "all", the testimony given at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:4
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but
    is patient toward you,
not wishing for ""any"" to perish but for "all" to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
    It's a nice little word isn't it

    John 1:7 (KJV 1900)
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that ""all ""men through him might believe.
    Romans 5:18 (KJV 1900)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon ""all""men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon ""all"" men unto justification of life.
    1 Timothy 4:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of ""all"" men, specially of those that believe.
    Titus 2:11 (KJV 1900)
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ""all"" men,
    Isaiah 45:22 (KJV 1900)
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth:
For I am God, and there is none else.

How to be saved (born again) and join the family of God!!!

    Romans: Chapter 10 verse 9-10-13 GOD SAYS=

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him
from the dead, thou shalt be Saved. For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession
is made unto Salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the
name of the Lord shall be Saved....................

    ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------

An example prayer for those that have never talked to God!

    Heavenly Father:........................................... ...............................
I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of
my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my
heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven and have
Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe
that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now
to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and
Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship you all the
day's of my Life!. Because your word is truth, I confess
with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed
by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus Name, Amen

In the New testament the word Prophet (προφήτης) can mean either a speaker or someone who predicts the future. Since the Bible mentions a lot of things that hasn't happened yet, whenever we tell people about the prophecies of the Bible, we are literally acting as a prophet.

Yes, there are people who profess the truths of God, and in that meaning of the word they are modern day prophets.

And also there are people who warn about the things the Bible say will happen, so they also are prophets of God.
But I think what you really mean are those who claim to know of future events not mentioned in the Bible. The Bible is very clear about such people. If they are truly a prophet of God, then God will give them things to say that will prove they are from God. But if they predict something that doesn't come true, it's a sign that they are not of God. Some charismatic denominations get a bit over enthusiastic about prophecy and will predict things, and then ignore when the predictions don't come true, meaning they are more interested in pretending to be prophets than actually following God's word.

I do not agree with Calvanism, but I love Spurgeon because he saturates his sermons with Gods Word.  Too many preachers use a verse or two and alot of opinion in their sermons
