Golgotha got a reaction from Alan in What is Spiritual Warfare?
Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in being your Good Shepherd to help you discern good & evil in the world by His words kept in the KJV as well as proving by His words everything in the church & by some popular christian.
1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. 8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
In regards to fiery darts spiritual warfare, I would say that is about keeping lust out of our hearts.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.....16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Applying faith in Jesus Christ to help you when you are tempted to make provision for the lust of the flesh to fulfill the lust thereof  has been key in my walk with Him & I thank Him for that in leading me to do that as well.
    2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Paul was certainly motivated to keep lust out of his mind & thus his heart by leaning on Jesus to run that race.
1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness ( masturbation ), inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
So let us turn to Jesus Christ for help whenever those fiery trials come upon us.
1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.....12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1 Peter 5: 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Romans 13:14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure....8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Psalm 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
A little girl was asked, "What are you going to do when Satan comes knocking at your door?"
The little girl replied, "I would send Jesus to answer the door."
That is what we need to do by way of prayer in asking Jesus to answer the door to any fiery trial coming our way.
And I am trusting Him as my Good Shepherd to remind me to send Him to answer the door.  Amen.

May He help you discern this particular altar call that I am talking about.
The gospel presentation goes like this:  "It is not going to church every Sunday that is going to save you.  It is not by keeping the Ten Commandments that is going to save you.  It is all those that call upon the name of the Lord."
The apostate altar call is this:
"If you are not sure you are saved, come forward & make a commitment to follow Christ."
Now discern that with His help.  What is required to keep that commitment to follow Christ to gain the assurance of salvation, because that is WHY they are making that commitment to follow Christ; to get assurance of their salvation.
If you read over the presentation of the gospel & then the altar call, you may see that the altar call is the exact opposite of the gospel presentation because keeping that commitment to follow Christ means going to church every Sunday....and keeping more than the Ten Commandments since the teachings of Jesus are higher than the works of the law.  You think any one is going to get any assurance of salvation by trying to keep that commitment to follow Jesus?  I would say not since breaking it, failing it daily, would give them doubts about having any assurance of salvation since they are trying to finish by the flesh what was begun with the Spirit.
I was not addressing all altar calls;  just that one where one is asked to make a commitment to follow Christ to gain the assurance of salvation.  That is the same as saying you will know you are saved when you have kept that commitment to follow Christ, but it can never happen because by that commitment to follow Christ is the knowledge of sin.  No one will be able to say in Heaven that they have kept it.  No flesh will be able to claim it.  No one.
Ukulelemike; I do not see anything wrong about your altar call nor how you had responded.  I see God's work on you in that moment.
wretched:  Just pointing out how a religious calling that men can identify with to receive the praise of men by can creep into christianity just by giving an altar call that is the opposite of what the gospel says in how we are saved.
If any one is not sure they are saved, if you had called upon the name of the Lord, believe you are saved.
As for following Jesus, we can only follow Him by faith in the Son of God & all His promises to us as our Good Shepherd since He is in us & is with us always. By the grace of God we have been saved, and by the grace of God we shall follow Him, both done by faith in Jesus Christ;  not by trying to keep some religious commitment to follow Him.

Well, when I said personal  one-on-one, I meant in person and face-to-face so each can better ascertain what the other means through facial expressions and word elocution.
As for the theater situation, my guess is they don't know how to fix the problem, and rather than take the time and money to do so, it's easier for them to spin a tale. After all, hearing devices probably aren't used by very many people (I didn't know they existed until you mentioned it and I researched it). So, it's not cost-effective for them to worry with it. This type of thing happens in many areas. Sad, but true.
I do know this, if I were the manager, and I saw the employee mocking you (or anyone) like that, they would no longer be an employee...

Bro. Matt receives the email or whatever results from the contact link. Bro. Matt WILL answer sometime in the future but seeing as he has a real life (one removed from the internet), it may take a while. He is starting a church in CT, I wouldn't count a 4-5 week delay as unreasonable.
So, who is this Bro. Matt? The guy who owns this website (Online Baptist) and forum.

I can't answer for them; however, since we are to be members of a local church, they are giving you good advice. Certainly it's impossible to vouch for all IFB churches; however, to suggest that you find a good IFB church is still good advice for a couple of reasons...
It's better than suggesting you find a good Catholic church, Charismatic church, Lutheran church, Presbyterian church, etc. The responsibility in finding a good church lies with you or any other person seeking one. At the least, one should question the pastor on what he believes in key areas of doctrinal importance. One should also ask to see the church's Doctrinal Statement/Statement of Faith. If all of that checks out good, then attend for a while to see if they are abiding by what they claim to believe.  However, as you have pointed out, you're unable to attend church for various reasons...I just wanted to address your question...
I think another reason for the suggestion for you to find a good IFB church is because of the seemingly large amount of areas; in which, you seem to be interpreting scripture to say things that it doesn't say in order to fit within your beliefs. While we agree that speaking in tongues is wrong, much of what you have proposed on this forum are things that I've never heard of before. By including so many passages of scripture to support your view (that I and others believe you are misapplying), it makes it hard for people to address your posts. Situations like this are best handled and addressed in a church or in personal one-on-one situations.
Is it possible that the theater's system might have a problem rather than them doing it personally in order to persecute you? Have you talked to them about it?
You could have a computer virus or malware on your computer. You should read this thread --> http://www.onlinebaptist.com/home/topic/24944-for-the-past-four-mornings/
Amen. Golgotha, I'm not mocking you in anything I've written. From what I gather, you seem to be sincere in your love for the Lord.
Now...before I finish, my 6 year old son is wanting to type something on here...so if what follows looks strange, it's because a 6 year old wrote it... 3

Most IFBs would claim to answer only to the Lord Jesus Christ; however, I purposefully left that out of my response, because I don't know if all IFB churches do that. In fact, I would venture to say that some (if not many) don't.
However, many IFB churches do claim to answer to no one other than Jesus Christ, and that's the way it should be.

I realize that you're basically unaware of what IFBs are. IFBs are not a denomination. Each church that refers to itself as IFB or IB are self-governing; that is, each individual church operates on their own without answering to anyone else.
At one time, there was a general consensus as to what IFBs believed, but that is no longer true. So in reality, by asking if IFBs worship the Holy Spirit, you may get different answers...depending on which IFB church you ask, or by asking different members from different IFB churches.
I for one, neither worship nor pray to the Holy Spirit; however, that doesn't marginalize his incredible importance in my life, the lives of other believers, nor in the lives of the lost.

Golgotha reacted to Jim_Alaska in What makes a Church IFB?
I guess since I spent so much time in Alaska I was out of the "mainstream" all those years, with the exception of missionaries and other pastors who came to hold special services for our church.
I said that simply because I have never heard the term "IFB". In the Alaska churches it was always "Independent Baptist"
The first I ever heard of IFB was when I joined this message board. I say all of this so that folks understand where I'm coming from and why.
I would define "Independent Baptist" as simply Independent from any control outside of the local church, to include any conventions, associations, fellowships, or control by any other church.
If I had to define IFB at this late hour of my Christian life I would have to define it this way:
    1. The Independent part would be; Independent of any control outside of the local church an individual belongs to.
    2. The "fundamental" part would be; a local church that holds strictly to the teaching and doctrines put forth by Jesus Christ, His Apostles and the first church that He instituted, as inspired by His Holy Spirit and found exclusively in His Word.

Golgotha got a reaction from John Young in How to get right with God and not go to Hell when you die.
I believe that discipleship is separate from salvation which is why Jesus was commanding His disciples to teach new believers all that He has taught them.
The gospel is simple so that the only repentance that is called for is to repent from unbelief by believing in Him.
It is after this point  that new believers have power to repent from sins by trusting Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd in helping them run that race to lay aside every weight & sin by looking unto Jesus Christ Whom is our confidence in finishing what He has started in us to His glory & to the glory of God the Father.
If you notice sinners walking away from being asked to repent from all sins, it is because they are being honest in that they do not have power to repent from all sin when it is having dominion over their lives.  Thus they can only come to Jesus by surrendering & trusting Him as their Saviour to save them from their bondage to sin & to death.
By trusting Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd, they will get to know Him & the power of His resurrection when they place their confidence in Him to finish running that race for them in helping them to lay aside every weight & sin & they will find themselves following Him by the same grace of God they were saved by.
This is why little children are free to come to Jesus Christ for all they can do is trust Him at His word.  That is all any of us can do when sin has dominion over us.
So salvation is separate from discipleship, but both requires faith in the Son of God to not only be their Saviour, but their Good Shepherd as well.  It is when we are saved, we have received power to become sons of God.  John 1:12-13  Only then can they see the Son setting them free when they trust Him in being their Good Shepherd since He is in them and is with them always.  John 8:30-36  1 John 3:3,8  2 Timothy 4:18
The Lord has set me free from keeping my commitment to follow Him & all other religious bondages ( Galatians 5:1,5 ) to rest in the New Covenant & all His promises to me so that I no longer am doing the best I can, but trusting Him at His word as I am relying on Him all the time to help me to follow Him thus getting to know Him & the power of His resurrection.  It is the only way I can cease from my work and enter into that rest provided by Jesus:  Hebrews 4:1-3,9-11 & Matthew 11:28-30 & Philippians 1:6-11
