  1. The religious rudiment that Billy Graham uses may very well be in an IFB church; the commitment to follow Christ. A commitment is like a promise; and thus a yoke of bondage. The irony is that after preaching the gospel, Billy Graham gave the opposite of the gospel message at the altar call by saying, "If you are not sure you are saved, come forward & make a commitment to follow Christ." Granted, just by hearing the gospel & believing in Him is how any one is saved, but the altar call denies that salvation has been given by faith in Jesus Christ without works & also promotes finishing by the flesh what was already begun with the Spirit when they had believed in Him. Obeying God's words is by believing in Him & trusting Him at His word, but I do wonder how many IFB members see nothing wrong with the believer's commitment to follow Christ as if that is how we can follow Him is by the power of our flesh & will in keeping that commitment to follow Him when we can only follow the Son of God by faith in Him & all His promises to us? Those that see nothing wrong with it, must ask how they can claim this part of scripture as their testimony of Him? Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.....5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. It is prevalent on how many believers can see that doing circumcision which is the smallest letter of the law, can put a saved believer under the whole law, and yet when it comes to making promises to God which is the biggest letter of the law, they somehow exempt themselves as if they are not under the law by using God's grace to keep on trying to keep that commitment or promise that only God can keep & finish, They do not fear God in that respect. They continue to make assumptions not supported by scripture whereas scripture reproves their assumptions like.. thinking that God will help them keep their promises or their commitment to follow Him. No, His words says He will not. Numbers 30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. It is a man's promise; therefore he has to do it. God has made His promises, and He keeps them. Here is something else that a commitment or a promise to follow Christ does. Ecclesiastes 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. 5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? 7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. By that commitment or promise is the knowledge of sin. That believer's commitment or promise is a work of the believer's hands; not God's hands. That is why it is simply written that the just shall live by faith... faith in the Son of God & all His promises to us. Why promise that which is under His New Covenant to keep & finish since He will finish His work in us & He will help us to follow Him as His disciples. And so where is that faith in light of that believer's commitment to follow Him? Nowhere because that keeping that commitment to follow Christ denies faith in Him & His promise to us as our Good Shepherd to help us to follow Him. Like it or not, it is an ego trip to see how many a person can lead a sinner or an unsure but yet saved believer to make a commitment to follow Christ, and Billy Graham will always have a problem getting off of that pedestal that people put him on for leading so many to the Lord as if he was the one that did it; which he did not. In fact, he led them away from their rest in Jesus Christ by taking away the assurance of their salvation by faith in Him to keeping that commitment to follow Christ to gain that assurance of their salvation. Granted, Billy Graham is ecumenical in nature, but that rudiment of making a commitment to follow Christ is the false prophet that is gathering grapes of thorns & figs of thistles as it is something that can be found in other religions of the world where many wise men in the flesh, many might, and many nobles are called to for the praises of men. Having believed in Jesus Christ as our Saviour is how we were saved & trusting Jesus Christ as our Good Shepherd is how any believer can follow Him as we can only live this reconciled relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is no wonder why Billy Graham doubts that he would be received by Jesus Christ because he has said that he was not always a good christian, and thus he can never have that assurance of salvation as long as he thinks keeping that commitment to follow Christ is how he or any one else is saved by thus laboring in unbelief & coming short of that rest in Jesus Christ for not ceasing from his own work as God did from His. Hebrews 4:1-3,9-16 May every IFB member that has spoken of that commitment to follow Christ, cease to speak of it, asking Jesus Christ to set them free to follow Him by faith for He is our Good Shepherd & not just our Saviour. May we be witnesses of the Son by declaring our faith in Him for that is the exalted testimony we are to have as His disciples. A believer's commitment glorifies himself in receiving the praise of men for the work of their hands in keeping it. A believer's faith in Jesus Christ to help him to follow Him glorifies Jesus Christ as we are the work of His hands. There is no way to compromise the two because a believer's commitment to follow Christ voids faith in Him to do it.
  2. I want to join the King James Bible forum & the Men's Forum but I see no "Apply" link at the top of the page. Where is it? I have used the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the web page, in giving my request to join those two groups, and still no response.
  3. Parent to child doing poorly in Math because he doesn't want to; "God has commanded you to do math!" "What?!" the child asked in bewilderment, "Where is that written in the Bible?!" Parent reminded the child "God said to go forth & multiply !" Child's response ->
  4. Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in being your Good Shepherd to help you discern good & evil in the world by His words kept in the KJV as well as proving by His words everything in the church & by some popular christian. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. 8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. 2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. In regards to fiery darts spiritual warfare, I would say that is about keeping lust out of our hearts. Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.....16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Applying faith in Jesus Christ to help you when you are tempted to make provision for the lust of the flesh to fulfill the lust thereof has been key in my walk with Him & I thank Him for that in leading me to do that as well. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Paul was certainly motivated to keep lust out of his mind & thus his heart by leaning on Jesus to run that race. 1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness ( masturbation ), inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: So let us turn to Jesus Christ for help whenever those fiery trials come upon us. 1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.....12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 5: 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. Romans 13:14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. 1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. 1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure....8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Psalm 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. 2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. A little girl was asked, "What are you going to do when Satan comes knocking at your door?" The little girl replied, "I would send Jesus to answer the door." That is what we need to do by way of prayer in asking Jesus to answer the door to any fiery trial coming our way. And I am trusting Him as my Good Shepherd to remind me to send Him to answer the door. Amen.
  5. Thanks for replying Brother Alan, "Golgotha, I have four suggestions. That you find a good Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church and join it, listen to some of the brethren here on OnLine Baptist as they discuss the issues, start your own thread (or lesson), on subjects that are on your mind." ~ Alan Thanks for the suggestions, Alan. I may respond as Christ leads me to.
  6. Thanks to Jesus Christ for the devotion by you, ScottM84. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. "There are most certainly bad things that come into the lives of believers. Death is not good. Sickness is not good. Pain is not good. " ~ ScottM84 And certainly suffering wrong & grief from others is not good either, but He can help us through it for the good. 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. 10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. 1 Peter 2:19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. Christ has set the example for us & since He is in us, our confidence is in Him that we shall serve Him His way. 1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. So our suffering by His grace & by His help may lead sinners to believe in Him. ""The wonderful truth of the matter is, however, that an almighty, sovereign God can take bad things that were not a part of His original creation and use them to work for our good." ~ ScottM84 And the other wonderful truth is that death, sickness, pain & even suffering can work for the good in order for us to relate to sinners going through those events in their lives that He may gain some. 1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
  7. Thanks to Jesus Christ for the devotion that you have shared by Him, Jim_Alaska. " Mat.5:6. shows that becoming righteous by the grace of God is no accident. The words, “hungering and thirsting”, as it pertains to righteousness, comes only as one desires it. There must be an active choice on your part, salvation is no accident, and those who receive God’s salvation have made the choice to do so. It is also not just a determination on your part to become religious, the Pharisees were religious and Jesus condemned their religion. " ~ Jim_Alaska Although there is a seemingly active choice on our part, I cannot help but have my sights be lifted up higher by Him in regards to that seemingly active choice on our part to believe in Him. I agree that our believing in Jesus Christ by the grace of God is no accident. John 3:18-21 testifies how God the Father knows whom is seeking Him from those that prefer their evil deeds as it is God the Father that reveals His Son to those that prefer Him ( Matthew 11:25-27 ) & the Father gives them to the Son to keep ( John 6:37-40 ) So I do not see it as an active choice on my part when my believing in Him is a work of God as well. John 3:21 There wasn't even an active choice on anyone's part to choose to follow Him as His disciple. John 15:16 The hardest thing for any believer & for myself to accept that I find is that there are vessels unto honor in His House AND there are vessels unto dishonor in His House. 2 Timothy 2:19-21 And although, one reads the vessel unto dishonor as mayhap pertaining to Israel, in Romans 9:11-21 , I cannot help but see by His grace that He is talking about believers that do not follow Him as His disciples as they shall be the vessels unto dishonor as well for not departing from iniquity. Romans 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) 12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. 13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. 14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. 15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. 17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. 18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? Feeling small as I should & I am, I hope in Jesus that He has chosen me to be His disciple, as I am recognizing that my hoping in Him that He has chosen me to be His disciple is also a work of God as well. Even one of the fruits of the Spirit is faith ( Galatians 5:22 ) as that testifies to His workmanship in me for it is by Jesus Christ that I have faith in Him & He is keeping me when I continually have faith & hope in Him. Philippians 1:6 &11 Many wise men after the flesh, the mighty, & the noble do respond by making an active choice of determination; of commitment; of promises to be seen by men to receive the praises of men, but not the elect. 1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. I give thanks to the Father in Jesus's name for my believing in Jesus Christ as I give thanks to Jesus for keeping me in the faith as I continually hope in my Friend that He is keeping me as His chosen friend in following Him as His disciple by abiding in Him & His words in loving others & bearing fruit by Him. 2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
  8. Hi Brother Alan, Thank you for the devotion. There are some questions I have towards the application for church building. Wouldn't you say that exclusivity has a way of interfering with building the church? Granted, that one should keep out heresey by citing the truths that the particular church agrees on, but if there is no rapport, then how does one lead another to agreeing with the truths that the congregation agrees on? Of course, a one on one meeting with the pastor is necessary to avoid interruptions in the church services & even Bible studies in building that rapport & learning process, but yet an outreach is required also for church building. As it is, most visitors are content to not ask questions to avoid looking like a novice or looking like one trying to make waves even. How does one church build that believer? By leaving slips of paper for them to ask questions on and hand it in anonymously when the collection plate passes & the pastor or elders will try to answer the questions that Sunday or next Sunday if research is required? Also, I would think that a forum should be open to church building to non-members of Independent Baptists. Like the topic on Revelations; why Independent Baptists only? Granted, having responses from everybody that are "likeminded" does help cut down the responses that may veer off topic, but I would think the forum should allow you to post a duplicate thread in that part of the forum for non-Independent Baptists to reply to with Independent Baptists members also sharing their relevant replies to that duplicate thread to practice church building in outreach, but generally, such a duty seems off putting. Maybe the forum should find a way to have a caption underneath members name & avatar to signify when a Independent Baptist Member is replying or just a christian? That way, one can avoid confusion by the replies. I agree with your appeal to church building, but I wonder in application, if exclusivity has a way of getting in the way of that? I even wonder about how the churches are addressed in Revelations by the city they are in. Even Thyatira was addressed, but also exposed the notion that not all believers were meeting in the same place in that city as not all followed after that errant doctrine & practice of what the majority of the believers were doing in that city. I do not know how a forum can church build me, a fellow believer, if exclusivity prevents me from joining in on your studies in Revelations just because I am not an Independent Baptist yet. I have yet to discern what that actually mean since I have come across "Baptists" elsewhere that are more Pentecostal in nature & practice. Anyway, I think the exclusivity of membership in churches & forums has a way of preventing church building. I am not sure how that can be resolved, if at all, but there it is.
