  1. Yellow shoulder causes a loss of tomatoes. My crop has it this year.

On the internet they say it's caused by excessive heat. We haven't had an excessively hot summer so far. Other folks say minerals. Hybrid tomatoes are said to be more susceptible. Some say only use heirlooms but, they are susceptible to many other diseases. I would like to find a really good hybrid that is also resistant to yellow shoulder. Some articles say to give excessive compost to the soil in the fall.

All of my sweet 100 and grape tomatoes are fine. This issue seems to be confined to the larger hybrids I'm growing.

Any thoughts or ideas from you farm folks out there?

In all the IFB churches I've been a member or. KJVO churches...yes. And in all of the churches who fellowship with the SBC that my wife and I have been members of...and believe me, none of them have been liberal. Don't appreciate that insinuation.

It's not an insinuation. It is observation. The last one I visited, is now entertaining the new style liberal praise style rock and roll. Prior to that, the SBC church I visited, dropped the name Baptist altogether. Then, before that, one I thought would be strong in faith, has now gone after the praise craze. The truth is not a hard story to tell.

No aggression here... I saw nothing wrong with the language. I've heard it used in my IFB church growing up, and in almost every church I've been associated with. Have never heard it called or pointed out as improper. You seem to have a problem with me.

Not in any IFB I've ever been associated with,,, and there are many. Maybe in one of your SBC more liberal churches but IFB KJV churches NO.

An interesting point worth noting is some modern versions change the wording in that passage of Daniel to read "a son of the gods." Therefore, removing any reference or even idea that it could be Christ.

    Sad.

  6. I had always thought that it was Jesus Christ "Son of God" with them in the fiery furnace but, for some reason my mind went right on by "angel". Yes, I understand that angel means messenger and that many times "angel of the Lord" is pre-incarnate Christ and other instances where I believe the context points to an angelic appearance as God appearing. I've read it so many times but never solicited commentary from any source before. Thanks to all for commentary.

  7. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. 26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. 27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Daniel 3:23-28

Was it pre-incarnate Christ or an angel sent by our Lord?

Too often (again, not saying in every case), when a church goes the other direction (ie. from a Baptist name to a general name), it is usually indicative of a negative direction, often due to doctrinal compromise, CCM entering the mix, acceptance of worldly values or becoming "diverse" in some manner (some even now use that term on their websites to indicate the changes and the acceptance of other philosophies or lifestyles).

Case in point, a local church (in my town) that now seems to accept native and East Indian spirituality, has loud CCM music in their services,

I've seen it in a Texas church. The first time I visited the sign read Baptist, that was the most that was Baptist about them. The next time I went by that church while on a visit to that city, the Baptist had been dropped.

This is similar to my experience also. I was presented with some biblical teaching and over time I realized it matched doctrine taught in many churches with the ifb (or independent missionary baptist) label.

I think though someone could have a church without the label but believe very similar things.

Yes, they could. My local church use to be Decatur Chapel, we had a meeting and said we embrace these Baptist distinctives and embrace fundamental Biblical practice. We petitioned the state and changed our name to Decatur Baptist and state on all our documents, signage, and tracts and literature that we are an Independent Baptist Church.

They've reported a lot on them lately, I know. Those of us who attend churches in fellowship who are in cooperation with the SBC's mission on missions have a lot of concern as well. One thing we've noticed, though, is that they consistantly misrepresent the SBC, calling it a church when it is a system of autonomous churches, not a single entity. I try not to read the Capstone or any other news regarding the SBC or the IFB churches as they're usually highly inaccurate, or at least driven with the underlying motive to divide and destroy.

I had not seen anything about IFB churches just SBC churches. Do you have a link?

Dave, my nephew-in-law and neice used to be with Campus Crusade for Christ. He was the director for the group at Augusta State University in Augusta, GA. He hasn't been with them for several years now, but I do know that there were many of the "woke" ideologies creeping in. He and my niece are Presbyterian. I don't know for a fact that their church accepts homosexual marriage. In fact their doctrinal statement declares that they stand for the Biblical principal of and teaching of marriage being between one man and one woman. So, I don't know that the information you have is correct. I've attended several Presbyterian churches, and none of them have been accepting of homosexual marriage. Do they love the sinner and hate the sin, trying to reach them for Christ? Yes. Just as one can't lump Baptist churches who accept this abomination in with those that don't, one can't lump all Presbyterian churches or Campus Crusade for Christ, now CRU, into one group. Not all hold to that.

Thank you for the information and thoughts. I continue to seek counsel for this is important consideration.

I will mention that homosexuality is/was accepted by the Presbeterian Church of America (PCA) in 2018

However, as of today, they have rescinded the practice of homosexual clergy in the PCA.

Also, not all 'Presbyterian churches agreed with the 2017-2018 decision and broke with the PCA which I've noticed on their signs "Non-PCA-Church".

  12. I sure would like for input about this organization from OB.  Didn't this used to be 'Campus Crusade For Christ'?  I believe it's hooked up with the Prebyterians who except homosexual marriage, is that true?

Please help, as a board member, considering to support a graduate from college (attends our local church) I need to know some quick facts.

    Thanks,
    Dave

  13. I was told by a pastor, in jest, as soon as you find the "perfect church" and join the community it becomes imperfect.

Romans 14:4   Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Another pastor told me the church is a hospital for broken or ailing souls.

Mark 2:17   When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

But by all means continue your search.

  14. Galatians 6:2   Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

This can be done in a simi-private location (just out of ear shot but not out of eyesight).

Proverbs 15:22   Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

More than one counselor present idea is sound advice.

Our "counselor" example is Christ. I can't think of one time when He was in private with a person giving truth or performing a miracle; unless it was Nicodemus in John 3:2, but, scripture does not say that they alone. But this counseling was, of course Man to man.

  15. I always heard the "unknown tongue" was a language from another nation, not what the charismatics make it out to be. The one scripture they point to more frequently is 1 Corinthians 13:1 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal." and Paul is speaking of himself in this instance not of the church's ability. I've never been able to understand how they can base a doctrine on 1 Corinthians 12 and 13 and the Apostles in Acts.
