Genevanpreacher got a reaction from MountainChristian in The Word vs the word of God
    They are two different objects.
One being the source of the other.
The Word, (the Lord Jesus), is the "word" in physical form - while the "word" is the Word (the Lord Jesus) in verbal form.
That's why we call the scriptures the word of God, because they are from God, whose name, in human form, is Jesus Christ.
God's word (the Bible) and God's Word (the Lord Jesus).

    Obviously.
A summary of those verses to which you have nothing more to say.
There are two women contrasted, the Bride and the harlot, the false bride.
There are two cities,New Jerusalem , the Holy Jerusalem. And Babylon, the mystery. Mystery Babylon the Great.
Startlooking at it that way and you may have something to say.

Scriptural references for volunteering to be a soldier though?
If men wouldn't volunteer, maybe they would have been better used of God?
Instead of living in extremely decaying and unhealthy lives now that are no longer able to do what the Lord intended for them...they could be healthy and, vigorously working to reach the lost that were supposed to hear the gospel?
    Maybe?

Well Dave, you have to be a Honda.
As a disciple of the Lord - you must strive to be... Oh, lets just quote the verse-

"These all continued with one accord"  Acts 1:14.
So the Honda Accord was the car of choice for the followers of Jesus.

There were people and are some today, that even though they claim atheism, they disprove that line of thought by making themselves "God".
"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man..."

There was a book that had a similar idea - starting with the statement that the Bible didn't have a lick'o-truth in it, the hero in the tale grabbed the man in a headlock slamming him to the ground, grabbing his nose and twisting it til blood squirted out, then sitting the man up, turned in his Bible to this verse -
    Proverbs 30:33
"Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife."
He added belief to the fellas thinking - and lead him to the Lord Jesus!

Would you like to show the faulty references?  I don't always agree with GP, but that doesn't mean I can't sometimes agree with him.  And if you ever took notice, I, from time to time agree with you.   If I think either of you are correct, I agree.

One sunny day in 2017, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench.  He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."  The Marine replied, "Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here."  The old man said, "Okay," and walked away. The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton".  The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here."  The man thanked him and again walked away.  The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton." The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mrs. Clinton. I've told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here. Don't you understand?"  The old man answered, "Oh, I understand you fine. I just love hearing your answer!"  The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow."

That was the point I was trying to make in my first response. We can get so caught up in trying to prove a point, win a debate, or whatever...that we lose focus on the poor lost soul with whom we're dealing with. The two examples that I gave weren't meant for entertainment; they were given to show where such dialogues tend to digress to. You gouge me, and I'll gouge you back. It's a contest to see who gets the last gouge in.
    Our supreme command is this...
Go ye into all the world and preach...
    the gospel...
    to every creature.
Delivering the gospel is what we're to do. I'm not opposed to having a dialogue with an atheist/evolutionist about the existence of God. However, I can no more prove that God exists than they can prove that evolution happened. If the dialogue is sincere and it affords me to either give the gospel or plant seeds, I'll gladly dialogue. However, like I said, I can't prove anything...but the Holy Spirit can.

    You are kidding!!
My two youngest sons went down there in July!
They had a youth conference. Our current Pastor, Darrell Sparks knows that church well.
He just preached a conference in Athens, Texas -on how we can trust the accuracy of God's word last August. Bro. Darrell took my youngest son Eli and another young man with him on the trip.
    Small world.

I agree GP. As I said in a previous post I had never heard of IFB until coming to OB. I was saved in an Independent Baptist mission work in Fairbanks Alaska in 1975. Our sponsoring church identified itself as Independent Baptist, as did the churches that supported us. Our sponsoring church was Roger's Baptist Church of Garland Texas, a very large, well known church among Independent Baptists.
I was taught and have always believed that the word "Independent" was simply to show that we were not under any convention or fellowship and self governing, as scripture teaches.

From my experience, the term Independent Fundamental Baptist helps me get a rough idea about the beliefs of an individual or a church.  It helps me to know that they aren't Catholic or Presbyterian or whatever and that they are KJV only, but that's about it.  IFB churches and individuals are so varied, that I believe the term to be almost meaningless and I believe it to be an obstacle to others.
When I tell people that I am an IFB, if they have heard the term before, they usually ask, "You mean like Westboro Baptist?"  If not that, they as, "You mean like Steven Anderson?" or "You mean like Kent Hovind?"  To which I reply, "No, more like David Cloud," but almost no one I have spoken with has even heard of David Cloud.
My point is that most people, that I speak with, have either never heard of IFBs or, if they have, they equate it with hateful preachers, hateful picketers or crazy conspiracy theorists.  While they and I may share beliefs in some doctrines or practices, I would not align myself with them.
I think the term IFB is most useful for other like minded and mindful searchers in finding each other, but to use with extreme caution and discernment.

What about Churches that have large bus ministries to run and have responsibilities to get children home after morning services?
I don't think we can come up with a law for sermon length, I think each church and preacher has the freedom to follow the dictates of their conscience and the leading of the Holy Spirit in this matter. Not everyone's situation and audience are the same.

Hmmm...I don't know that I could prove it. Perhaps for me, the proof is in what can't be proven? After all...unlike other "denominations",
My "Denominational Headquarters" can't be physically visited by anyone; however, I'll gladly give someone the directions of how to get there. I also can't physically take anyone to meet my "denomination's" President, C.E.O, and C.O.O. However, I'll gladly introduce someone to them through the means that they have provided. If a person wants to see my "denomination's" Creed, I'll gladly show them; however, it might take them awhile to read all of it, because it's a book and covers A LOT of information. After all, though it's one book, it consists of 66 separate books and those books are further broken down into 1,189 chapters. I suspect that most people would lose interest after reading it for awhile. They may not like it either, because it uses all of those old-fashioned and archaic words that people seem to have so much trouble with today. Unfortunately, that's the only "Creed" that I accept...so please don't expect me to offer you an easier-to-read version of our "Creed". I could give the fundamentals that our "denomination" abides by, but it's based on our Creed...so... My "denomination" only has two officers below our President, C.E.O., and C.O.O.; which are, pastor and deacon. A person could visit them...so that's feasible. My "denomination" only consists of our President, C.E.O, C.O.O. (as noted above), the pastor and deacons (as noted above), and the members of our local church. Membership in my "denomination" is granted upon a person's salvation testimony and baptism. Everything is handled "in-house" in my "denomination", so if someone experienced a problem or had a need, and if our "in-house" system wasn't adequate for them to file their complaint or need, they would have to take it up with the President, C.E.O., and C.O.O. However, please see article #2. My "denomination" only offers baptism to those who have given testimony of salvation. So, though it's very sweet and moving, we unfortunately won't baptize an infant. We only baptize by full immersion too, and I don't think many people would appreciate our dunking their infant under water. My "denomination" only offers the Lord's Supper to the members in our "denomination" (please see article #5). My "denomination" doesn't restrict members from their ability to act as a priest. All members are fully capable and encouraged to approach God personally, pray to him, and worship him personally in spirit and in truth. Our sole mediator is the C.E.O of our "denomination"...the Lord Jesus Christ. I could go on a bit longer, but I think I've said enough.

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Does that say churches or church?
