    Concerning John 16:13-15
John 16:13-15 serves as a unit of information concerning the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit in guiding believers “into all truth.”  The primary point of the passage is presented with the opening statement of John 16:13 – “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.”  Herein we learn the following:
    1.  The timing for the Holy Spirit’s guiding work – “Howbeit when he . . . is come.”  This would refer to the sending forth of the Holy Spirit to permanently indwell New Testament believers, which began on the Day of Pentecost.
    2.  The character of the Holy Spirit’s guiding work – “the Spirit of truth.”
    3.  The need for the Holy Spirit’s guiding work – “he will guide.”
    4.  The recipients of the Holy Spirit’s guiding work – “you.”  This would be a direct reference unto the apostles as believers, and thus would have application unto all New Testament believers, since we are all now indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
    5.  The content of the Holy Spirit’s guiding work – “into all truth.”
The entire rest of the passage then serves as an explanation for this primary point.  Specifically it serves as an explanation concerning the work of the Holy Spirit in guiding us “into all truth.”  Even so, from this point the passage begins to employ the two verbs “speak” and “shew” a number of times.
The first part of this explanation encompasses the compound statement – “For he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak.”  This statement begins with the explanatory conjunction “for” in order to indicate that it is an explanation.  Furthermore, this compound statement employs the adversative conjunction “but” in order to indicate that it expresses two contrasting truths.
The first of these truths is that “he [the Spirit of truth] shall not speak of himself.”  Herein the preposition "of" is not employed to indicate the content of which (or, about which) the Holy Spirit will not speak, but is employed to indicate the source out of which (or, from which) the Holy Spirit will not speak.  Even so, when the Spirit of truth guides us “into all truth,” He will not speak out of Himself as the authority for that truth which He speaks.  Indeed, this understanding is substantiated by the contrasting truth concerning the source of authority out of which He will speak forth – “But whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak.”  When the Spirit of truth guides us “into all truth,” He will only speak forth that which He hears from another.  Yet that draws forth the question – Who is this other One from whom the Spirit of truth will hear, and thereby speak?
The answer to that question is revealed in John 16:14-15.  However, before that answer is revealed, a statement is made concerning the content which the Spirit of truth will speak – “And he will shew you things to come.”  Thus some of the “all truth” into which the Spirit of truth will guide us will be prophetic utterances concerning the future.
Then John 16:14 provides the answer to our above question --  Who is the One from whom the Spirit of truth will hear, and thereby speak?  “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”  In this statement our Lord Jesus Christ begins by declaring that the Spirit of truth will glorify Him, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.  Certainly, this could be taken to mean that the Holy Spirit will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by speaking specifically about the Lord Jesus Christ.  However, such is not the explanation that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gives for the declaration that the Holy Spirit will glorify Him.  Rather, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gives the explanation – “For he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”  Herein the explanatory conjunction “for” specifically indicates that this statement is the divine explanation for the previous statement.  So then, does this explanation focus upon the content about which the Spirit of truth will speak and by which He will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ?  No, it does not.  Rather, this explanation focuses upon the source from which the Spirit of truth will receive the truth to be revealed unto us.  Specifically, the Holy Spirit shall receive that truth of and from the Lord Jesus Christ, and such is the very truth that the Holy Spirit shall show unto us believers.  So then, the Spirit of truth will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ specifically by submitting Himself under the Lord’s authority so as to receive His message directly from the Lord Jesus Christ and so as to show forth only that message which the Lord Jesus Christ gives for Him to speak.  The Lord Jesus Christ is the One from whom, and the only One from whom the Spirit of truth will hear, and thereby speak.
Yet this appears to exclude God the Father from the process.  Therefore, our Lord Jesus Christ adds a further explanation in John 16:15 – “All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”  Herein the Lord Jesus Christ indicates that He Himself has equal ownership in all that God the Father owns.  As such, when the Holy Spirit receives and takes the message of truth directly from the Lord Jesus Christ, He is receiving and taking God the Father’s message also, since God the Father’s message and the Lord Jesus Christ’s message are the exact same message of truth to be delivered unto us.

The things that are good in feminism are not original to it. So I would say it is never an acceptable philosophy because its foundations are based on errant ideas. Those few good things are better found in the study of the biblical family structure.

People need to understand that SCOTUS doesn't have the constitutional authority to throw out a state referendum wherein the people of the state voted to amend their state constitution.  But in this brainwashed society in which we live, folks accept whatever SCOTUS says...totally misunderstanding what state's rights are, and how the 10th amendment limits EVERY branch of federal government.

SCOTUS did put a stay (and it was unanimous) on the federal court decision re: Utah's amendment.  Indiana is getting ready to vote on it - and I believe that when it comes up for a referendum, the citizens of IN will vote to add the same-sex marriage ban to the state constitution.  That falls outside the purview of SCOTUS, because it is the will of the people of said state, in compliance with their state constitution.  But, again, people don't seem to understand what states' rights are...and are so quick to bow to federal government and say, "whatever, big brother."

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
I apologize for my lengthy absence from Online Baptist. The past year has been quite difficult and I'd not had the energy to spend the time here I'd hoped. As the Lord permitted, I was given strength to write articles for a Christian publication ("Rapture Ready") for over the last 2-3 years, and spent what energy I had on that.

I also have been away so long I had no idea where to post this, nor under what topic. So please forgive me if I erred. My photo from before has disappeared as well, and I likely didn't upload a replacement properly either.
The news I have to share today is that the time has come not to say "good-bye", but to say: "We'll meet in heaven."
I have stage four cancer. I'm not going to pursue chemo nor radiation (etc.), but have instead signed on for Hospice.
The cancer has spread to lymph nodes and bone (likely other places as well). At least one tumor has also spread to to local areas (invasively) and is inoperable. It would only prolong the suffering to try any attempts at chemo (etc.) at this point.
It's urethral cancer, which is not only rare, but also extremely aggressive. So there isn't much time left. No doctor can give an exact time-line. But the oncologist said 5 months would be the absolute maximum. Honestly? I can't see it being more than a month, maybe two at most (just my opinion - going on how miserable I am and how quickly it's spreading and tumors are enlarging and manifesting here and there). But the Lord alone knows. His will be done.
I do so appreciate prayer. However, I humbly request that none would pray for healing; but instead pray "God's will be done". And if you would, please pray for pain relief and continual relief of pain. I also request that you'd pray for the Lord's comfort for my family and dearest friends during this time. Very much appreciated.
Although I'm saddened that this is hard for my parents, children, grandchildren, and dear friends; I think most of them understand that I'm not (personally) sad about the prognosis. As most know, I've had primary progressive MS, spinal cord disease (syringomyelia) and myriad other health issues for over a decade. Life has been an "existence" for many years. One I appreciated still, but was often very painful and difficult. I've been house-bound and bed-bound for several years now. I am looking forward to a release from the pain and suffering in this life, and anticipating the fulfillment of promises God has made in His word for eternity to come for those who've trusted and believed on Jesus for salvation.
Please don't pity me in the least. "...I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (2 Tim.1:12).
God has given me the "peace that passeth understanding" (Phil.4:7) and keeps my heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
I also have the firm comfort and assurance of the pre-trib rapture, wherein all church/grace-age believers will meet the Lord in the air. The "dead in Christ shall rise first", then those who are "alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
The Lord will soon give church/grace-age believers incorruptible bodies just like Jesus own glorified body (1 John 3:2; Phil.3:20-21; 1 Cor.15:49-53; 1 Thes.4:13-18; et al) at the rapture.
While some brethren here may disagree with this doctrine, I am fully convinced of the scriptural surety that the rapture is indeed pre-tribulational. And that Jesus has promised to deliver us from the wrath to come (1 Thes.1:10, 5:1-9; Rom.5:9).
So also do I know that scripture proves the rapture to be imminent (nothing need proceed the timing). However, I also believe the rapture is now much more than imminent, but also must soon occur, as much of end time Bible prophecy is aligned in stunning accuracy.
I would never dare set date. Yet we are given to know and discern the season which we are now in.
Brethren and sisters, I do believe that the rapture is so near that should I physically die first, I do believe all in Christ will soon be raptured and we will all meet together in the air.
I very much appreciate the fellowship and past discussion here on OB. So many dear brethren and sisters have touched my life, edified me, and I count you all a blessing. Continue on serving the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord, and that His word does not return void.
    Much love, See you soon.

I have run into the type of situation one other time in my last church 20 years ago when we were in a building program actively erecting a new church building and doing as much of the labor as we could on our own.  Suddenly many of our carpenters, plumbers and electricians disappeared from the church.

2bLikeJesus got a reaction from swathdiver in Hiding From Plain Sight
I was out soul winning today and ran into a man that had a very solid testimony of salvation entirely by grace through faith with no works.  When I asked what church he goes to, he replied "I can't go to church anywhere unless it's at least a 100 miles away and I can completely hide my profession".  Fearing the worst like he ran one of the local Marijuana dispensaries legal here in Oregon, I asked what is his profession.  He said, "I am a Family Practice Physician".  If I am in a church, as soon as that is found out my phone never stops ringing at all hours of the day and night from church members all wanting and expecting free medical advice and care, or at the least preferential treatment for appointments so their loved one bumps automatically to the top of any wait list.  The abuse I get is so extreme I have stayed away from any churches for years now, though I really miss the preaching.
I was shocked.  Could this actually be true of most churches?  If so, shame on us!

Regarding the original post; salvation is not a system of "do's and don'ts.  Salvation is instead about having the blood of Jesus Christ applied to your heart and soul as payment for your sin. It is about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which, if it is real will result in a changed nature that does not "want" to sin.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
