    Saved before the Cross?????

Men were saved by faith in the OT. Galatians 3:6 KJV [6] Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Romans 4:1-5 KJV [1] What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? [2] For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. [3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. [4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. [5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. the sacrifices and rituals of the law never endowed salvation or justification. Salvation has Always been by faith alone and always will be.

    A bit of grace folks?

Bro Dave, respectfully, I think of all issues to be precise with language, the things of the Gospel and eternal life are most important. I cannot tell you how many people I have met who doubt their salvation, all because of well meaning preachers who were not precise and careful with what they said. I have made a few threads on this issue: https://onlinebaptist.com/forums/topic/27152-rethinking-evangelism/?tab=comments#comment-438652

Well, Respectfully I do not think your position is in agreement with the word of God. the Apostle John clearly was writing his epistle to those who believed in Christ, so that they might know that they have eternal life. the word MAY in the Greek is in the subjunctive case, indicting possibility. Clearly it is possible for someone to trust in Christ but to face doubts about whether or not they know that they have eternal life. As to James 2:19, I see no connection between that and what we are talking about. Belief in God does not save anyone, not Jews, not Muslims, and not Americans. Most American's believe in God, but they don't trust in Christ. So I fail to see the connection here. It does not say "thou believest in Christ".. It's true that by trusting in Jesus Christ, his death, burial, and resurrection, that we can know that we have eternal life. But that only comes after someone understands the Gospel. But I have known plenty of good who have trusted in Christ and are plagued with Satanic attacks upon them that cause them sometimes to doubt their salvation. I disagree vehemently that just because someone has doubts about their salvation that they are not saved. Even Abraham faltered in his faith after God told him he was going to have son, we see that Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness, but we also see that he doubted God's promise, hence the incident with Hagar and Ishmael. As to the wino in the gutter proclaiming that he believes in Jesus, people can say whatever they want, obviously that doesn't mean they do. But just because some claim they believe in Jesus and don't, that does not negate the fact that all it takes for salvation is simple trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Th 5: 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, God is no telling the Thessalonians to get saved when he says to put on the helmet, which is the hope of salvation, he is encouraging them to keep trusting God, because they have believed the Gospel. I believe he is telling them the same thing the Apostle John has in 1 John 5:13. I believe the doctrine that if someone is not 100% sure of heaven that they are not saved is not a doctrine found in the word of God. I do believe however that it is the privilege of everyone who has trusted in Jesus Christ, to have assurance of eternal life, but just because they have the privilege does not mean they will understand and access that privilege. Now if they are trusting in Baptism, Church, good works, etc, then clearly they are not saved. But I know people who have trusted in the Gospel and have been plagued by Satan.

Salvation is not asking God for forgivness. That is not really how you get forgiveness, before I became a born again Christian, I asked God to forgive me plenty of times, But i was NOT saved and forgiven until I put my trust in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Apologizing and telling God you are sorry does not grant forgiveness, Jesus Christ’s death on the cross does. Are you implying that if someone has any doubt about being saved that they aren’t? 2 Peter 1:9 KJV [9] But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 1 John 5:13 KJV [13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. seems from 1st John 5:13 that someone can believe and not KNOW for sure that they have eternal life. He says im writing to you who believe...that you MAY know...that you may believe.

    Jews Versus Gentiles

Psalm 19:1-3 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Romans 1:18-20 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, evenhis eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The problem is not with scientific discoveries but the misinterpretation/misrepresentation of scientific discoveries. I dont fear science, but sometimes its difficult because scientists today so frequently present their unproven theories as facts, they just say those things over and over and over again and people blindly pick them up and begin repeating them. Case in point is the earth being millions of years old. Totally unproven.

    Jews Versus Gentiles

Noah had 3 son, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. All people groups come from one of these 3 sons, Abraham was a descendant of Shem, the Jews descended from Abraham ultimately. I believe most of your Africans came from the linage of Ham, while Shem produced the Semitic people groups and I think even the Asian groups as well. I believe the European groups were descendants of Japheth. What you have to realize is that Abraham was just one tiny branch of the human family tree during his time. BTW the “flood” of Noah really did happen. Henry Morris put out a great book on it and there is tons of evidence out there that there was a worldwide flood.
  11. Who exactly are you listening to? If I might make some recommendations, you can go to Sermon Audio and listen to people like Kenny Baldwin, John Van Gelderen, Jim Van Gelderen, also David Cloud. I also highly recommend you download the App "loveworthfinding", it's a ministry that plays audio sermons from now deceased preacher, Adrian Rogers. I would like to recommend you read this free e-book, it is for people in your situation. https://www.wayoflife.org/free_ebooks/what-if-no-good-church.php In response to your question about the practice of talking about other churches and Pastors: https://www.wayoflife.org/reports/private_reproof_vs_public.html "God solemnly charges the preacher to identify false teachers, to exhort, reprove, and rebuke with all authority, to speak as the oracles of God, to earnestly contend for the faith, and even to warn about born-again compromisers (Romans 16:17; 2 Timothy 4:2; Titus 2:15; 1 Peter 4:11; Jude 3; 2 Thess. 3:6; 2 Tim. 4:10). Nowhere in Scripture are these commandments restricted in their scope. Nowhere does God say that a Bible preacher can reprove and rebuke only the members of his own church or that he can reprove and rebuke anyone who errs except an influential Christian leader. " "To reprove public sin and error publicly by the Word of God under the guidance of the Spirit of God and in His wisdom is not slander and is not gossip and is not “throwing rocks” and is not “shooting the wounded” and is not hateful and is not dishonoring to Christ." Now, there are definately internet preachers to avoid, for example one of them is Steven Anderson. You need to find sound bible teaching, ideally a solid church.
  12. It is my understanding that KJV translators were exceptionally fluent in the Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic languages, in additional to many other languages.   Translating in context and not just by each individual words I would assume takes a great deal of understanding in determining a good translation in the first place.  It is my understanding that modern day translators are not fluent in the languages and cannot even compare to the KJV translators of that day.   I don't believe we should try to translate ourselves, especially if we are not fluent in these languages.

Well that's your opinion. I personally have found Greek and Hebrew to be helpful in some places where the English is unclear.

Also, certain languages include features that Greek and Hebrew had, for example in Greek and Hebrew verbs have gender, like Spanish.  If you were translating into a language that had gender in it's verbs, you would HAVE to look to the Hebrew and Greek in order to have an accurate translation.

I am working on a Master's Degree in Biblical Languages to utilize Hebrew and Greek for my own personal understanding of the word of God and also for possibly doing translation work for an unreached people group that I am working with.

I don't claim that I'll ever be on par with the KJV translators, but that doesn't mean I cannot utilize Hebrew and Greek.

I also have training in linguistics.

I honestly am not sure why exactly you decided to post this on my page?

    Absence of Doctrinal Authority

Well, sadly today many churches are getting away from teaching bible doctrine and expositing the scriptures. Southern Baptist Churches today are filled with compromise, OnlineBaptist here is made up of Independant Fundamental Baptists, we are distinct and separate from Southern Baptists. https://www.wayoflife.org/database/whynotsbc.html

    Absence of Doctrinal Authority

the Bible is our authority, Any governing body that contradicts the teachings of scripture has lost its “authority”. God already has given us an authoritative body, and that was the writers of the Old and New Testaments. No body can dictate or legislate doctrine. Except that Orthodox Churches such as you have described practice the heresy of infant baptism.

    Steven Anderson

I am in agreement with Dave here, their soul winning is just repeating a shallow 10 minute Romans Road. You can see a video of their soul winning on youtube. While Anderson may be getting people interested in his brand of "Christianity" he is not bringing people to follow Jesus Christ, but to follow him and his wacky ideas and sensational doctrines. How many Sodomites has Steven Anderson turned away from Christianity because of his hate? How can we possibly give any praise to a man who has openly prayed for certain people to die and go to hell? We have had run in's with Andersonites at our church, they seem to want to promote the doctrines of Steven Anderson and not the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Personally, I detest the doctrine and teachings of Steven Anderson.
