  1. Dr. J, "A person does not go to hell because of their age, they go to hell because God holds them accountable for their knowledge of the gospel, and whether they accept or reject it. However, there is a difference between judgment and sentencing. Judgment has pronounced on all from birth, but the execution of that judgment falls under the permissible will and patience of God as to whether that person is going to have the sin nature imputed to them and then sentenced according to the decision they have made regarding the gospel." I am a little confused as to what you mean. Did you mean some people will not go to hell because God never imputed sin to them?
  2. In a previous church, I was a deaconess. However our jobs were to visit the sick and prepare/ cleanup the Lord's Supper. We were not considered female Deacons.
  3. I am a vet and do agree that women should not be in combat (or even on ships). However, not to sound feminazi- women (even Christian) should be able to join any branch they prefer. Of course a Christian -male or female- needs to make sure it is God's Will first. Karen
  4. If the "church leaders" are rallying around the church family of FBC and are encouraging the new pastor, great! That church family needs our prayers. However, when the church itself is being exemplified, then it looks like a "good ol' boy" network. What is missing? The denouncing of the sins and the doctrinal errors of the Schapps and the Hyles. They are still being promoted as great men of God by these same leaders. They don't have to make a long sermon out of the issues, but they should at least ackowledge them in a way that doesn't sound like they are making excuses for their sins.
  5. I feel really bad for her. She shows Christian love towards homosexuals by hiring them but might be found inconsistent in her beliefs because she wouldn't cross a line. Praying.
  6. As a former RU leader, RU does NOT teach that a person can live in sin after being saved. RU is a great discipling course but it still depends on who is leading it. Does the person in charge of the program preach Biblical salvation, instead of the 1-2-3? Does the leader stand for God's Word instead of trying not to hurt a person's feelings? We never told a person that he/she is saved even when they came from "Christian" family. As a leader, my job was to keep the ladies accountable in their Bible study and always bring it back to God's Word during discussion time- it is the Holy Spirit's job to convict. As Salyan said, God will sear a person's mind when they knowingly sin and continue not to heed the Holy Spirit. Then He will reprove, rebuke, then maybe take that person home. edited because I referenced the wrong person
  7. Dear MawMaw, When the Holy Spirit tells you it is wrong, prayfully look for another church. (I know, easier said than done) . I am praying for you, Karen
  8. Fantastic article!!! Those sayings are pet peeves of mine. WWJD? I don't know- I am not God nor Jesus. He dealt with each person differently because only He knows the intents of the heart. Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
  9. We don't celebrate the birth of the church, because? (Personally, I did not know that people did ) The beginning of the church? The beginning of Christ's ministry?
  10. We personally use 10% as a starting point when we give to our church/ missionaries, etc. Not that we are commanded to but because of the principles in the OT, for example: Genesis 28:22 "And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee." We call it tithing. To us, tithing is giving. Semantics I guess. Romans 14:4-5 "Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."
  11. Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. This is one of my favorite verses.
