The Lord knew there would be a time to walk away.

Mat 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

There comes a time when it is useless to go further.
Trick is figuring out when that is.

I hope no one would disagree with sowing the seed, watering, or sowing and watering. It's when the discussion begins to trample the word or our Lord in the mud we may need to consider withdrawal. God's word may cause rejection, that is one of the outcomes possible from freewill. So, yes give it with the right spirit and leave with the right spirit.

Our calling from the Lord is to sow the seed.  He waters.  As we are led by Him in obedience we should follow through and witness.

Many times our ego gets in the way and we may respond in battle mode to "prove" the truth in our might, not His leading.   Then we get in the middle of a debate which is not glorifying or pleasing to him.

I guess I'm a late bloomer, but I just very recently realized it's pointless to debate online with atheists as well as people who claim they are Christians, but follow progressive ideology. Both deny the Bible as the inherent, inspired Word of God and its authority. Both deny eternal damnation. Both deny creation of the world. Both deny that there in only one way to God. Both deny that people are born with a sin nature and need to crucify the flesh daily. Both make a sport of mocking and belittling Bible believing Christians.

That is why, whenever someone who is a non-christian (and I will be so bold as to include "liberal Christians" in that group), is obviously solely interested in seeing believers de-convert thanks to their needling and "shining logic and reason" I ignore them. It's very discouraging to be a Christian online and have people openly ridicule your beliefs. I've never had a single debate with non-christians online in which the person said, "you know, you've given me a lot to think about". It typically devolves into, "you're clearly a brainwashed moron, so I'm done".

Just recently I was on a knitting forum and my avatar is of a man kneeling to pray. No less than five people derailed the conversation we were having about dinner party advice to make childish implications that my avatar looked like a man doing something dirty. When I very politely clarified what the image was, it encouraged them to make even more jokes. They are truly doing the enemy's work via the internet. He's playing them like puppets on strings.

I think one of the reasons so many parents "trust" Disney is because they grew up with it and don't realize that it's worse (even thought it's really always been unbiblical)...

Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella are two of Disney's earliest offerings, and remain some of its most popular.  In them, "good" overcomes "evil", but the good is always magic...

Desensitization happens over time.  "Fantasy" is fun to many who grew up on Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc. My sister's first husband mocked us when we refused to allow them to buy books like The Sorcerer's Apprentice, etc., for our son when he was young. He didn't (and still doesn't, although he got saved later) understand.  He was lost...sadly, many Christians don't understand and allow their children to watch, thus continuing the desensitization so that they accept demonism.

And let's not forget all of those "funny" movies where the man is pictured as being less intelligent than the woman and kids...

It's extremely difficult, sometimes impossible, to cast out of thought those bad things that have entered our minds. I've still got songs, commercials, TV shows and movies in my mind from the 60s and 70s that seem to love to pop up in my thoughts, sometimes for no apparent reason. I was mowing today, trying to think on a some verses of Scripture and suddenly this song from the late 60s or early 70s was running through my mind!

I've got way more than enough junk in my brain, I don't need to add any more to it!

I've been trying to saturate my mind with the things of God by keeping preaching going on my computer 24/7, spending more time in the Word and prayer, reading sound Christian books, listening to biblical hymns, studying through a couple of devotionals.

It's amazing how much more effort it takes to get godly things to take root and be at the front of the mind rather when junk I took in decades ago which took root without effort and seems to have lifetime seats at the front row of my mind.

Consider God’s warning to the Jews in Deuteronomy 18:9-12 in light of this (longer than expected) post.

I’ve spoken with brethren (many times) that cannot relate to my dogmatic stance against Hollywood. I’ve heard statements like, “But we only allow Disney and the Learning Channel...” (yeah right). Because of this thread, I took an hour to solidify my stance on Disney so I can do a better job of defending my views to what I call “Blockbuster video Christians.” This information will help some and undoubtedly fall on deaf ears to most.

So, if you’re a witch, I’ve listed some movies below that should appeal to your family (since Jesus Christ is entirely absent from them). If you’re a “Blockbuster video Christian,” they may be fitting since films with sugar-coated occultism are an acceptable in your home.

    Basic search engine research:

I searched Disney.com and the name Jesus and received this response: “Your search did not match any documents.” However, searching with occult terminology such as vampire, wizard, witch, magic, spirits, sorcerer, devil, demons, etc. yields more results than time permits to include.

Here’s just a small portion of that Disney content with occult themes:

    1. My Babysitter's A Vampire
    Link: disneychannel.disney.com/my-babysitters-a-vampire‎
Ethan is about to find out that his 17 year old “babe-o-sitter,” Sarah, is not just a hottie, she's a fledgling VAMPIRE!

    2. Wizards of Waverly Place
    Link: disneychannel.disney.com/wizards-of-waverly-place‎
Alex, Justin and Max Russo are wizards in training trying to balance ordinary lives while learning to master their powers.

    3. Escape to Witch Mountain
    Link: movies.disney.com/escape-to-witch-mountain‎
Thrilling fantasy adventure about two young orphans whose psychic powers interest an evil millionaire out to exploit their abilities.

    4. Twitches
Link: movies.disney.com/twitches‎ Twin witches Alex and Camryn, who were separated at birth, reunite on their 21st birthday and discover that their unusual powers double in strength when together.

    5. Hocus Pocus
    Link: movies.disney.com/hocus-pocus‎
You're in for a devil of a time when three outlandishly wild witches return from 17th-century Salem after they're accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters!

    Link: movies.disney.com/the-secret-of-the-magic-gourd‎

A young girl, Chihiro, becomes trapped in a strange new world of spirits. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, she must call upon the courage

    8. Aladdin

    13. Frankenweenie
    Link: movies.disney.com/frankenweenie
When a car hits young Victor's pet dog Sparky, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked "monster" wreaks havoc and terror…

    Imagery from this movie:

Deuteronomy 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12  For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

The fingerprints of spiritual wickedness have been all over this company since its inception. It's no accident that Jesus Christ is completely absent from their long list of titles while magic is the prevalent theme. The lack of discernment among believers is colossal regarding the subject of “final days” media. I know many believers that embrace this abominable corporation.

2 Corinthians 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Unfortunately many parents don't realize just how corrupt Disney is. I've known of Christian parents who have went out of their way to make sure they have the Disney Channel for their children (not to mention the many more non-Christian parents who do that). Most have no clue what their children are watching. They use the TV as a babysitter and think parking them in front of Disney or Nickolodean is safe.

I don't watch much TV so it often really hits me a good one when I visit my sister and see and hear some of the garbage on TV these days. So many shows have homosexual characters, if a dad is even in the show he's typically bumbling moron, the mom's are either not real bright or they go along with the children so they are "cool", not only is teen dating and "romance" heavily featured, but even pre-teen now, and the language they use and clothes they wear!

Even the Disney and other movies that are called family friendly these days, and that many Christians flock to with their children, are filled with potty humor and sexual innuendo.

For us, all this means more time to read! Yet even if we don't watch it, we end up hearing about it from all those who do and it influences other children and parents, so even avoiding it ourselves doesn't keep all the bad of it away.

    Bible:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph 2:8,9)

    Cahtolic Church:

“If anyone says that justifying faith is nothing else than confidence in divine mercy, which remits sins for Christ's sake, or that it is this confidence alone that justifies us, LET HIM BE ANATHEMA” (Sixth Session, Canons Concerning Justification, Canon 12).

“If anyone says that the justice received is not preserved and also not increased before God through good works, but that those works are merely the fruits and signs of justification obtained, but not the cause of its increase, LET HIM BE ANATHEMA” (Sixth Session, Canons Concerning Justification, Canon 24).

“For it is the liturgy through which, especially in the divine sacrifice of the Eucharist, 'the work of our redemption is accomplished,' and it is through the liturgy, especially, that the faithful are enabled to express in their lives and manifest to others the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church” (Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Introduction, para. 2).

“As often as the sacrifice of the cross by which 'Christ our Pasch is sacrificed' (1 Cor. 5:7) is celebrated on the altar, the work of our redemption is carried out” (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Chapter 1, 3, p. 324).

“From the most ancient times in the Church good works were also offered to God for the salvation of sinners, particularly the works which human weakness finds hard. Because the sufferings of the martyrs for the faith and for God's law were thought to be very valuable, penitents used to turn to the martyrs to be helped by their merits to obtain a more speedy reconciliation from the bishops. Indeed, the prayers and good works of holy people were regarded as of such great value that it could be asserted that the penitent was washed, cleansed and redeemed with the help of the entire Christian people” (Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Apostolic Constitution on the Revision of Indulgences, chap. 3, 6, pp. 78,79).

You cannot take one aspect of scripture and apply it as the end-all, be-all of whether a church is true or false. The Bible is a big book, made up of 66 books, all of which are the very word of God, and are to be taken as a whole. When a church has official statements that disagree with clear scripture, that must be marked as a sign that it may be a false church. Now, there are those that have error, and error can be reparied-it doesn't necessarily mean false, just error. But when an organization piles error upon error, and even goes to such lengths to supress any disagreement to those errors, as to kill any who publicly disagree, THAT is a false church, and the enemy of Christ. Remember, Jesus said,
" They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service." This doesn't refer just to the Jews, but many, and for hundreds of years, the RCC killed, tortured and persecuted millions of Jews and true Christians, all while holding a cross and declaring the name of Jesus. Whether or not they seem to nhave become a benevolent organization today does not change the fact of their murderous history, a history which has never been repented of, and, indeed, is often denied.

They are a false church, who bow to idols, who pray to the dead, who follow a man and traditions over God and His word.

Additionally, this is not "useless stuff" when examining whether Catholic practices and doctrines are Biblical or not.  The excerpt is from an apologetic commentary blessed and endorsed on August 10, 2004 by the Bishop of San Diego, Robert H. Brom, who gets his authority from the Archbishop who gets his authority from the Pope who claims to be the "vicar of Christ".  The statements and defense of those practices just don't get any more authoritative.  It is not a statement or description by an average Catholic church member blogging their feelings.  It is an official positional statement by the church itself and is thus subject to Biblical scrutiny as applied to the whole of the church.
  21. Thanks
KiwiChristian reacted to TheSword in Catholic Persecution of Christians
Yes, of course I do. However, I think you're misinterpreting what I've done above. I look at the numerous passage in the Old Testament that talk about how God despises idol worship and paganism in all of it's forms regardless of its original intent. I also see how God consistently tells His people to remain separate from them so that they are not seduced and defiled by their practices. I also then examine the New Testament that tells me how, as a Christian, to deal with people/churches who promote false/unbiblical doctrine because a little leaven (false doctrine/sin) will destroy a church (see Rom 6:17-20; 2 Thess 3:6; Matt 16:6-12; 1 Cor 5:13; Gal 1:8-9; 2 John 1:9-11; 1 Thess 5:22; 2 Cor 6:14-18)

Therefore when I, as a discerning Christian, see a practice that is unbiblical and goes against God's will I have very clear guidance on what to do. First separate from them (see verses above). Second, admonish, rebuke, and correct them (2 Thess 3:13-15; Eph 5:11-17). I also have the following guiding priciples regarding false teachers/teachings/doctrine to guide me in discernment.

    - Don't believe everyone who stands in a pulpit. Test their doctrine against Scripture first (1 John 4:1-6; Deu 18:20-22)
    - Watch out for false teachers/prophets (Acts 20:26-32)
    - Not everyone who claims the name of Christ is truly a Christian (Matt 7:13-23)

You see, my approach to determining what is right or wrong about a church's practices come straight from Scripture and no where else. When we see an incorrect teaching we are to mark (note as you said in an earlier post) it, avoid it, rebuke it, and correct it.

Therefore, when I as a discerning Christian, see what Scripture tells me is an ungodly practice in the Catholic dogma of the veneration of Mary I mark it, avoid it, rebuke it, and correct it. Now, nowhere in my post did you see me call the Catholic church antichrist; but if nothing else they are overly pro-Mary which is against God's commands. Nowhere did I try to fit the Catholic church into the Bible. I applied the Bible to a Catholic practice which deemed it wrong.

You can equivocate on ecumenism all you like, but it doesn't change the Biblical principle of separation outlined above. I disagree with practices and doctrines of the Catholic church, therefore I remain separate in every way from it and rebuke/correct its false teaching when it comes across my path. That doesn't mean I'm on a crusade to bring it down and spew venom at it. God is perfectly capable of snuffing it out when He sees fit; however that doesn't negate my responsibility to stand against it when presented with an applicable situation.

Thanks for the resource.  Because I had some extra time I thought I would check out this site.  I'm somewhat aghast at what I find.  In a defense of their prayer habits they have an entire section devoted to the prayers to Mary.  As part of the rosary there is supposed to be contemplation on the "Glorious Mysteries":

    "I. The Resurrection
    II. The Ascension
III. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
IV. The Assumption of our Blessed Mother into Heaven
    V. The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth"

When I saw #5 (V.) there, I immediately recalled my study into the paganism that sprang out of Babylon that manifested itself in the worship of the "queen of heaven" in the pagan goddess Ishtar/Ashtart which translated into pretty much every polythestic culture there is (Egypt, Canaan, Greece/Rome, etc).

Immediately below that is the "Hail Holy Queen" prayer:
"Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ"

and then there is the "Memorare:
"Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we turn to thee, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother. To thee we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, do not despise our petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer us. Amen."

So here we have prayer and petition to seek an answer and intervention given to someone who is not God.  If that's not idolotry, and thus false religion, then I don't know what is.  At least Muslims and Mormons "claim" to be talking to the same God we are (though I contend they are not), but the Catholic church unabashedly prays to someone they KNOW not to be God.  How one reconciles this with Exodus 20:2-5 I'll never understand.

What you say makes no sense. My world is not threatened, because I know the truth, and it has set me free from the bondage of any such lies as are found in the Roman system, the same as the lies found in Mormonism, Jehovah's (false) Witnesses, 7th Day Adventism, and the many other cults that are works-based religions that worship false gods and man-made systems.

That your doctrine is, by your admission, your own, you have exposed yourself as a fasle teacher, a wolf; nowhere has the Lord given us permission to have our own doctrine, but to follow the faith once delivered unto the saints. I suspect you are of the type that has more or less rejected all other walks in favor of your own, stitched together with your reasoning, and interpret scripture as something that can be picked and chosen from according to your will. If so, well, good luck with that.

    kaoticprofit,

It scares me to see that you claim your own doctrine. You ask why people are so bent on labeling Christianity, and claim that alienating ourselves from other "brothers and sisters" is wrong. The answer to your question is found in the Doctrine of Separation.

Romans 16:17: "17Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them"

2 John 8-11: "8Look to youselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds."

In 2 Timothy 2:16-18, we find Paul instructing Timothy to "16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some." These men were teaching things contrary to scripture and causing people to fall away. Timothy was to shun (reject and separate from) those teachings.

2 Timothy 3:5 "5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."

Revelation 18:4 "4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."

These are but a few verses detailing the importance, nay, the COMMAND, to separate from those who do not preach the Bible. No matter how you look at it, the Catholic church does not teach the Bible. Kaoticprofit, I urge you to forsake your own doctrine and to take up the doctrine of the Bible.

    Fair's fair!

Council of Trent is an original source. As for any other sources, I honestly couldn't tell you. I find info online from all sorts of random sites, and this search was quite a while ago. I was trained as a library tech, though, so I have some pretty strict personal standards for verifying online information.

I did a quick search and found this info that corroborates a good deal of what I said: http://www.catholic.com/tracts/the-sacrifice-of-the-mass
So I know I'm not far off. That page also includes the most twisted 'explanation' of Hebrews I've ever heard - turns the clear meaning quite backward!
