Ever wonder why, when Israel was taking the land of Canaan, the Lord commanded that they kill even the children of those nations? Its is primarily because they would bring along with them the traditions they had received as children, idolatries that the Lord didn't want them to observe. Sadly, they didn't always heed, and because of that, they fell also into idolatry, Molech worship and Baal worship, and worship in the groves in their high places, abominations before the Lord. I understand the traditions and joys of childhood, but I must, for the Lord's sake, reject even those if they are against my Lord.  I also remember the fun of drinking and carousing and womanizing when I was overseas in the Navy, but I reject those 'good times' because they are abominable before the Lord.
So please, hug your tree, Doc, but you might want to be silent next time your church sings "All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give..."

I find that a bit difficult to believe, but even so, what we save them WITH must be holy and sanctified, or we are just continuing to show them that its okay, as long as "its for Jesus".

Perhaps this is a situation where we think we're talking about the same thing, but we aren't.
When Jesus died, He went and preached to the spirits in prison: where was prison? Was it the same place as where Abraham and Lazarus and all OT saints went after they died, before Christ shed His blood?  See, in my understand, that is where they were, that was prison, but it was also paradise, the same paradise Jesus said that the thief killed next to Him would be with Jesus-it could not mean any aspect of the third heaven, though, because Jesus had to die and resurrect and bring His blood before the father to fully pay the sin debt-this is why Jesus had to ascend to His Father right after His resurrection, I would believe, to make the blood offering in Heaven to pay the debt.
So, all the OT saints waited there in paradise/prison, for Jesus. Why would paradise also be called prison? because anything beautiful can still be a prison if you cannot leave it.

How, then, did those of the OT ascend to the third Heaven without the benefit of the blood of Christ having cleansed them? If they had all ascended to Heaven, there was no need for Jesus to die for anyone, them or us, if we could make it on our own.
As well, how do we see this conversation between the rich man burning in torments of hell, and Abraham?

Interestingly, I just recently went to get some x-rays on my back, first time I have seen a doctor for anything in 15+ years. And got a female. Had to drop trou, but she gave me a covering, so I maintained my modesty. Though she DID see my bones, so not sure how I should feel about that.

That sounds very good and all, but that isn't the same thing as the observance of the Sabbath as a holy day. God sanctified the seventh day; HE set it as different from other days, though that would not have any effect on mankind until Exodus 16-what you are doing, in saying you consider every day as holy, tells me you don't understand either what God did, or what the word 'holy' means.
Now, if you tell me that you consider every day as a day set apart for God, I agree with that; but in the context of the Sabbath, the seventh day, it isn't the same thing. For the Jews it was clearly set apart as a day that they did no servile work, no labor, stayed home and worshiped God as a family. If you wish to make every day as the Sabbath, when will you work? You can't have seven Sabbaths, as it were, else you are not seeing to your duty to labor on the other days.
So bottom line, you still are skirting the actual question of the OP.

That is kind of a wimpy response to the topic. Seriously. No disrespect, mind you, but to keep the Sabbath as holy has an entirely different meaning than keeping every day holy. Holy means "set apart, sanctified'. If you keep every day holy, what is it holy from? What is it sanctified from? The Sabbath was holy, in that is was different or holy from all other six days, in every aspect of how a person lived.  We can certainly dedicate each day to God, and so should we, but that is different than keeping every day holy-if all days are holy, then none are, because how can they be holy from each other, in the way the Sabbath was?
Yes, one day everything and every day will be holy unto the Lord, I am just curious how making everyday holy like the Sabbath is to be done.

Sabbath is part of the Mosaic law, which Paul said is bondage. That to observe days and months and times and years, made Paul worried that he had spent all his time on them in vain. Careful observance of Sabbaths, of New moons, of feasts and festivals, particularly those associated with Judaism and the law, meant they were trusting in those things, rather than the simplicity of faith in the grace of Jesus Christ for salvation.
So in a sense, yes we were told not to.

Jesus did not go to "Hell", the place of the damned, because those there had no second chance-they died in their sin. He went to Paradise, where the OT saints were who had died in faith to God before Jesus' resurrection, to include the thief on the cross.  I believe this would also be the place called "prison". I have had people argue with me about that, saying paradise is a pleasant place, but prison is not. Well, one of the primary things that makes a prison a prison, is that those therein cannot leave of their own will. There are, in fact some prisons that are, in themselves, quite pleasant, with libraries, entertainment, good meals, comfortable accommodations, opportunities to gain an education, etc. But they still can't leave. Thus, though it was paradise, yet it was, what do they call it? A gilded cage, which they could not leave until Jesus arrived.

I agree that it is an issue of liberty to observe or not, but when a group observes because they are following the false doctrines of a false prophet, and therefore observe because they believe they MUST, and that those who do NOT are lost and of the Devil, that is worthy of judgment. They fall under the condemnation that Paul threatened the Galatian believers with, when he said they were placing themselves back under bondage to a law that Christ had ended, and were seeking to complete their salvation, started by faith, by works of the law.

There are an awful lot of differences in churches and groups that call themselves IFB, some, as we know, border on the heretical, and some are plain weird. Gap theory, Noah's son sexually molested Noah, angels marrying humans, Devils being the size of mosquitos, even, dare I say it, flat earthers, among many, many others.  What I see is the "I" part of IFB-we are all Independent of one another, which means if there is someone who is a wacko teaching false doctrines, or someone abusing the sheep, I will not, and cannot, be lumped in together with them.

Read the article, very weird. Of course, we take anything from Wikipedia with a few grains of salt, but I know Anderson is an odd bird. Against Zionism? That is BIBLE! Just another group without understanding of scripture. And against dispensationalism? It is pretty clear on just reading the Bible that there have been dispensations, for lack of a better word.  Maybe they ought not use the term IFB whatsoever, especially since they clearly don't represent old-time Fundamentalism at all. And not sure what "hard preaching" means, as a doctrine, because I have been deeply convicted by preachers who preach quietly and calmly, yet are filled with the Spirit, and I have been put to sleep by "hard preaching" that was hollow.

Social Security is, and always has been, a scam. There was never a SS "lock box", or a social security account where the money went in and was drawn from: it has always gone directly into the general fund, and used with all the other money.

I work for the federal government, and for the next 4 months, they will not be deduction the SS tax; BUT, come January, they will be taking it back, SO, I will be setting that money aside until January, and will apportion it back to myself to cover when they take it back. It is a weird and baffling decision to do something like that, and usually Trump has shown himself smarter with money than this.
But if I had my druthers, they could do away with SS altogether, continue to see to those on the program who depend on it, and let the younger people still working put away for their own retirement.

I agree. It's hard to be concerned about these things when your unemployed and your country is being burned down. Thank God I don't have a wife and kids but I do have a disabled, elderly father I care for.
These kind of arguments are luxuries for those with too much time on their hands.

Ukulelemike got a reaction from Jim_Alaska in What is your Unique Church Story?
Another pastor of a very small church
We had a fellow in our church, who had attended for years. Older man, white beard, unmarried, who lived with his elderly mother, and came to church mostly because she did. He was thrice damaged in the head, once by birth, once from drug and alcohol use, and once from an accident (brought on by number two) when he decided to drive down the side of a mountain, and well, it didn't end too well.  So he had long been damaged, so we cut him some slack.
Well for years he would ask for prayer concerning goats in the church. Always with goats. It was a long time before we came to understand that he was talking about my wife. See, I met my wife there, after I had become the pastor. Before we were together, she lived on her farm out in the desert, and from time to time she would run across this man's mother out walking her dog, out on her road, and they would chat a few minutes, which I guess the mother really enjoyed, After we got married, of course, she moved into my house with me, and those meeting ended. Well, he took this as that she now felt she was too important to go meet with his mother, and lamed my wife for his mother not having friends, (they had all died or moved away due to age). So until the day he passed, he hated my wife for ruining his mother's life, in his eyes, and he rarely kept it to himself, though it was always in coded language.
He was a joy, and I could tell more stories about his antics. Like when his mother needed an ambulance, and he kept trying to attack them, thinking they were taking her rights away, until they called the police and he kept daring them to arrest him. I had to physically intervene. Good times. Goood times.
