Yep, some of the KJB colleges do teach Greek - and even Hebrew! The one my hubby attended does teach Greek. And, in fact, the dean of that college has his master's in ancient languages (concentrating on Greek and Hebrew). And he's never attempted to "correct" the KJB, and he is strongly KJB.

If the purpose of learning Greek or Hebrew were to correct the KJB, that would be error. But there is no sin in learning those languages. I know when I took Greek in college it was simply because I wanted to learn the language - not to correct anything. The Greek my hubby had wasn't for correcting, either.

I think we have to be careful of a reverse type of snobbery...again, learning those languages is not a sin. Nor is it a sin to desire to look up the meaning of a word. Ba-ruther!

Thanks for everyone's help! After thinking about it more, I guess I just need one that better explains out-dated words. I don't necessarily need a commentary on the verses, as much as I would like a built in dictionary!! I don't know if one even exists...

I said it before and I'll say it again, our meddling in the Middle-East by helping overthrow dictators will ultimately help bring in a Islamic Caliphate run by Imans. The best thing for that region of the world is to have iron-fisted dictators keeping the crazies in line. But dumb America thinks that inside every Muslim is a American looking to bust out. I know for a fact that the politicians have been warmed by experts on understanding the Muslim and the Arab peoples that this isn't the case. Votes are more important then the safety of our country.

    Ephesians 1:3-14
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

I have to agree with some of the other posts that say that the plan of salvation was made before the beginning of the world and that God made a way for us to be saved, but we need to hear the Word and believe it in order to accept it. If someone never believes it, they aren't saved, no matter how much God wants them to be.

The problem is, Calvin teachings are not in the pages of the Bible, its false teachings, & its been proven false many times on this forum, so, yes, that issue has been addressed.

Hello. I'm a first time mom and I have an 11-month old son. I want to start him early with Bible reading, but I don't know when to begin. I don't think that he will be able to understand (or even focus his attention) for long enough to read anything to him. We have a few books that have Bible stories in them... should I just start there? I have a friend who actually plays an audio Bible for their children while they are sleeping, but I'm not sure how effective that actually is. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

Well, I just have to say our church is gay-friendly, too. We welcome them to come in and hear about Christ and their need of a Saviour. They can attend our Reformer's Unanimous to learn how to break free from the stronghold of their egregious sin. That said, though...they don't consider us gay-friendly...

I found it doubtful that this "christian" ever supported a Bible in her hands long enough to read it.

And if her church is gay friendly, it is most-likely not God friendly.

For the Christian, we should accept that God knows the truth and if justice isn't secured by our system, God will certainly make sure justice is served in His timing.

Just a question... where in Ephesians1:3-7 does it say that "God chose to set His love on some sinners and save them through Jesus"? My Bible says "us", not some - Meaning that he made a way for "us" (me, you and everyone) to be saved through Christ.

My husband was playing this on his phone yesterday and my two comments were #1: His language stinks and #2: He was stupid to post it on YouTube and this is a GREAT way to get legislation passed that hurts all of us.

I'm so tired of stupid Baptist preachers who do loud, controversial things (not in the manner of Christ) that will end up restricting the rights of ALL Christians.

I heard that. I will say, as a side note, that Preachers should not curse in the pulpit just because its a "Bible word". I HATE THAT. "Wicked as hell" is cursing, end of story. "Like hell I will" is cursing, end of story.

Preacher, if you'd watch your mouth and preach in a Christlike manner, maybe it wouldn't be attacked.....just sayin.

The Bible says that you aren't to rebuke an elder except with 2-3 witnesses.

It kind of sounds like your church does not like your pastor. And it sounds like your pastor is discouraged about your church. It is not a good testimony for a church to discourage their pastor.

Regardless, this is a topic for your private church. And we all here already know what you believe about tithing...so really, there is no more issue that needs to be discussed here. And I refuse to talk badly about your pastor. He answers to God, not me.

StandingFirm, you really need to give this topic a rest. You were making the same arguments when I was on this board over 4 years ago. Arguing about whether it should be called tithing or not is about as useful as arguing about the Gap Theory. Most mature, sincere Christians are probably giving at least 10% or more whether they call it tithes, offerings, gifts, or whatever else. Is God going to look on my offering less than yours because I happen to still use the word "tithe". If so then I guess the blood of Christ isn't all sufficient (No disrespect intended, I am only making a point). Or perhaps I will get to heaven and God will say, "Here I had 10 crowns for you, but you insisted on calling your offerings "tithes". I am sorry, you can only have 5 crowns". Somehow I don't see that as likely. Perhaps the missionaries that are supported through my tithes and offerings are really only effective with that portion of my money that goes in as offerings and the tithe portion is just wasted away. Again, I don't think that is likely.

Give with a joyful heart unto the Lord and He will accept it whatever you call it. You can call it offerings all you want; if it is offered insincerely, it is of no affect in Heaven.

As usual this turns into a debate between personalities, Why?

The scripture is the key. There are arguments here which don't address the the OP. YOU (ME) Christians should know the scriptures which apply to what we base our stand for this sin on. If they are truly for tolerance then we must demand, in love, our equal time. I don't believe they are for real tolerance but, I intend to request it anyway. If the opportunity is offered I better be able to say more than God said it that settles it.
    Back to center...

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The answer if questioned as to why(?) in the above scripture is, “I can’t mirror God’s image in a marriage between same sexes.”

I’ll add to the OP scriptures…

Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

What is the answer in the scripture above, “I can’t be the complete person God intends in a marriage between same sexes.”

These are superficial, at a glance discussion answers. Someone on this board knows more about this discussion. They understand more about this topic and I pray they will share and help us to prepare. Because the battle isn't far off, it's in our face NOW.

There is not a pastor in this world who has not lied, sinned nor will there ever be. Thank God for His grace that supersedes that of disgruntled church members as I am sure if stoning were still allowed there would lie a dead and stoned Pastor in many a church!!

I want to add that ANYONE who has THIS LARGE of a personal problem with tithing, pastoral salary, or any other giving issues has a bad attitude and needs to get right with God.

Its okay not not believe in tithing...its okay to have personal beliefs in other areas...but when it becomes an all-consuming dissatisfaction, then it becomes a personal problem...not the pastor's problem...not a forum's problem...and not anyone else's problem.

Its always safest to be generous with God. Always. I would rather give too much than give too little. And I dare say if your pastor wants you to tithe, it is for YOUR benefit...NOT his. My husband, the few times he has preached on giving, tells people over and over that the preaching is for THEIR benefit, so God will bless THEIR lives....not his own benefit.

*Groan* Not again. This thread will be locked soon, I imagine.

If you think your pastor is a liar, then maybe you should find a church you are happy with. Although I will say that you should be careful...if your pastor is truly God's chosen pastor for your church, God will not be happy with anyone who calls His man a liar.

Well if your as outspoken with your opinions on the subject at your church as you are on this forum it is little wonder he knows. Perhaps he merely means he does not count or generally see who gives what in the offerings. Many pastors try to avoid that for obvious reasons when possible. Makes it easier on them and on others as well.

Nobody was saved until they repented of their wickedness and believed on Jesus......turning from self to God. Calvinists need to repent of their wicked doctrine which slanders the character of God, and limits His boundless love.
