  1. Wine or not, Jesus would not have tried to get someone drunk in order to take advantage of them which is what this verse is referring to doing. Matthew 3:4b...and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Matthew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. Obviously John ate because we see his meat was honey and locust so we know Jesus is not referring to simply not eating. John could not have lived more than a few days without at least drinking water. So Jesus isn't saying in verse 18 that John never drank water. So what is Jesus referring to when He stated that John didn't eat or drink? The next verse explains when Jesus stated that He ate and drank. What was He eating and drinking? Something the Pharisees were not because they called Him a glutton and winebibber. If they called Him a winebibber, I believe this would actually be wine. Jesus Himself stated He came drinking. Was He ever drunk? Certainly not! Drunkenness is a sin and He never sinned. Understanding the English language and reading in context, Jesus drank wine that would have had alcohol. No this is not sin. Being drunk is.
  2. Exodus 19: 9. And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord. 10. And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 14. And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. What clothes did they wash? Were they their "Sunday best"? Clothes purchased for the sole purpose of going to church? No, I believe they were just their everyday clothes. Where did we get the belief that we have to have "Sunday best" clothes for church? I remember watching "The Waltons" in my youth. On an episode, one of the kids wore their church shoes on a day other than Sunday and got them dirty. Olivia got her apron all up in a bind over it and was going off. This series portrayed the Waltons as poor people that could barely afford the bill at Godsey's store but they went out and spent money on shoes to wear one day a week? How on earth could we come up with "doctrine", to spend money we do not have, on something as frivolous as fashion? Were they really dressing for God, or just trying to look good so they were not judged by the congregation? "Putting on airs" My problem is, and the meme nailed it, is when we have nice clothing that we are willing to wear for worldly occasions but then get the attitude, "the Bible doesn't have a dress code, I can wear what I want!" And then go to church looking like you are going to a picnic or bar. What does this say about our heart? Rebellious? It might not be rebellion against God. Maybe just rebellion against a religious practice that was beat into our heads as if it were doctrine.
  3. You really want to vomit? I read about this guy that not only watched a young woman bathing, he actually had her husband killed because he slept with her and he wanted to cover up getting her pregnant! I'll grab a rope if someone wants to get a ball bat. BTW, 2 Samuel 11:2 "A youth pastor in upstate South Carolina has been charged after allegedly filming multiple women and girls as young as 14 while they showered or used the restroom, including while at church" I don't consider a 14yo as a young girl but more of a young woman. I was sus when the article stated he also filmed a "woman" at her mother's house. If most men are honest, they have seen 14yo that were attractive but didn't know they were under 18. In other words, teen girls a lot of the time look like adult women. Now I am not giving him a pass because he was well aware of their age. It just isn't as sickening as thinking he was "lusting" after 8 year olds.
  4. Psalm 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. God's hate is pure. Our hate most likely comes from our pride, therefore we would not be better than God by loving our enemies. God has love for all, but you have to go through Jesus to get it, Rom 8:39. By loving our enemies, we show His love that He has for them. If we rather show that God hates workers of iniquity before they hear/see His love, we are definitely not furthering the gospel and are in direct disobedience to His Word. Case in point: in another thread someone referred to getting a baseball bat for a pervert. I don't think she was referring to helping him with his batting average. Do you want to crack a perv's skull out of love or hate? Why would we want to do this? Because we all have our own beliefs on how to treat a child and at what age a person is to be considered an adult. In this country, most believe it is 18. God's Word does not state an age. I believe the Amish look at children as little adults and work them as such where some look at children as fragile china and won't even spank them. Nevertheless, when someone doesn't act in accordance to our beliefs, we look down on them. This is pride. Disclaimer: I don't truly believe she would take a ball bat to someone. This was said out of emotion for the news article so please don't cast stones her way.
  5. According to God's word, the only sure fire way of accomplishing this would be to castrate ALL men. Gen 1:28, Matt 19:11-12, 1 Cor. 7:9 and 1 Cor: 7:4-5. Because like Happy pointed out, how do you vet a married man with a clean background???
  6. On topic, when I quit on March 23, 2013, a pack of Marlboro reds cost me $3.43 at the local Speedway.
  7. I think there is a lot of "deflect"ion going on here. What "PROBLEM" arises from the recreational use of marijuana? Someone grows a plant in their backyard and chooses to smoke it, where's the problem? Lives destroyed and brain cancer?? John 3:18 states that "he that believeth not is condemned already..." sounds like a destroyed life to me and that person didn't have to smoke dope to have it happen. As far as brain cancer, I personally believe more people have gotten cancer from chemical laced sodas and McDonald's burgers than from smoking marijuana. Years ago on a show called The O'Reilley Factor, the host, Bill O'Reilly was debating this issue and he made the statement that "more lives have been destroyed by alcohol than ever destroyed by dope." I did not check his facts, I am sure he had plenty of fact checkers doing that, but it is believable. Think back to Billy Sunday. Was he out there protesting marijuana? It wasn't illegal back then. No, he was shutting down bars. Preaching against the drunkard. So why aren't we actively trying to get the government to make alcohol illegal? The marijuana issue is just a deflection from the fact that people need the gospel. I don't need the government legislating my biblical beliefs. If we are not to be drunk with wine because it hinders the Spirit, than I would put marijuana in that same category and call its use sin. I am not going to get worked up because a LOST person wants to smoke a joint because they think it is going to make their life better. They need Christ. Lost people are looking for many more ways to make their life seem better than just marijuana. Should the government make violent movies and video games illegal? Should rock music be illegal? Alcohol, pre-marital sex, homosexuality, football on Sunday? And if you have some common sense, you know all those I listed, separate from marijuana, effect your personal lives more than someone smoking dope. have you had any run ins with the teens from this generation that are numb to violence from movies and video games? Do you know someone whose life was effected by a drunk driver? All this effects you more than a stoner ever will. Does that mean I want marijuana legal. No, I just don't care whether it is or not. It is of none effect on me as a Christian that has been commissioned to share the gospel. I believe in my heart that it is easier to reach a stoner with the gospel than it is to reach a Catholic who has been duped their whole lives by a false religion. False religion has sent more people to hell than marijuana. Should Catholicism be illegal? "No man that warreth entangleth himself in the affairs of this life..." 2 Tim 2:4. Getting involved in the marijuana debate is definitely an "affair of this life". Should we preach against the use of marijuana? Yes, the same as we preach against drunkenness. We are to use our Lord and Savior as our example. So how did He deal with these issues? He looked on the masses with compassion because they were sheep without a shepherd. He didn't separate the liars, adulterers and thieves and say "I will deal with these, let me get the Roman government to deal with the others and make their actions illegal." No. He preached to them. It should not matter one iota to a Christian whether marijuana is legal or not. Just share the gospel and live your life separate from the world.
  8. Charles Lawson in I think Knoxville... zion4131 has a youtube channel that posts his sermons Gregory Miller from Worthington, OH...used to be on youtube but now posts elsewhere...he has some good expository messages... Dare I say I still check out Brian Denlinger's KJVM youtube channel from time to time. Todd Friel has a youtube channel "wretched" that has some good content...I'm pretty sure he is Southern Baptist Voddie Baucham, definitely SB, has a great message on "Why I Believe the Bible is True" that, in my opinion, anyone who claims the Bible is true should listen to. If you find it on youtube, try the 43 minute version rather than the 30 min or 58 minute one. Also, good home-schooling messages. There are some A.W. Tozer sermons that can be found on youtube that are always good. If can't find sermons, has some good books.
  9. At the first communion, Jesus had Judas Iscariot with Him. Did Jesus not know how to discipline? It is not the pastor's duty to discipline at the communion service. If the pastor has issues with a "member", I hope the disciplining would be before communion. I would think there would be a better time and place. The pastor is not held accountable, if in ignorance, he lets someone take communion who claims to be a saved/baptized follower of Christ. It is his duty to reiterate what Paul wrote about taking communion "For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily". Also, "But let a man examine himself" Where does it say the pastor is to do the examining. Paul was rebuking for turning communion into a drunk fest, today it seems some pastors are turning it into a power trip! We are told to separate light from dark, period! Someone is always trying to separate for personal reasons whether it is blacks from whites or lets make the women sit on one side of the church and men on the other, etc. etc...and doing it in the name of Christ. The body of Christ is not supposed to have any schisms, but some have found a way. When we truly understand who makes up the body of Christ and who the church really is, not a building, then we will realize how goofy this all sounds. It is a called out assembly, and yes it has to have a locale, we can't all meet in Jerusalem or Mecca. But it is a called out assembly....called out from the wicked world, not called out from separate church buildings.
  10. So much "club" mentality....Maybe when we get to heaven Jesus can keep us separated to our "local church" congregations. I am sure that would make some people happy!
