There are over 450 versions of the bible in the English language, and more than 45,000 denominations in the Christian religion, and about 4,300 religions around the world. Now , God is not the author of confusion, but I believe Satan is.
I have come to the theory, if you will, over the decades; that the other versions, (that is other than the K.J.V.) are humanistic at their core. The reason I say this is that I have notice humanist terminology in a lot of them. Now this is an extreme view point for the moment, but I am still studying the subject. It would be unfair for me to draw a final conclusion without more evidence, so this is just my opinion for now.
  2. Thanks

I have not thought much about "humanistic" terms specifically in modern versions, though their approach to choosing manuscripts and translation choices certainly qualify as humanistic - bringing the Bible down to the level of any other human writings, believing certain parts are inspired and others are not, believing there are errors and things that need to be corrected, believing God did not really preserve His Word so they need to find the missing parts or correct the errors using their own humanistic judgement.

I would say it ended around that time, though, the term "Jews" may be referring to the Pharisees so he was done rebuking the Pharisees and doing miracles in front of them.
I would say it was definitely over Matthew 23:39
"For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord."
Notice, after that the disciples came to him privately for their questions (Matthew 24:3).

I heard a preacher the other day, and he was talking about Jewish marriage from the past.

In order to make this short, I'll cut right to the chase...

I've heard about the period of time when the man and wife are espoused to each other; during which, the future groom will build an addition onto his father's house for he and his future bride to live in. The preacher said that this addition was called a mansion.

Has anyone else heard this before?

Pro.30:5a Every word of God is pure: even those in italics. When I get to the words in italics in the bible, I make an emphasis on that word; that's what italics is used for, for example: Ex.20:2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. The word am is in italics. Decades ago a seminary student once told me "that anytime you see a word in italics it is not in the original Greek and/or Hebrew." I did not fall for it then, and I am not going to fall for it this time. Every time a new version comes out it is an attack on the word of God, its like Satan asking Eve, "Hath God said..."

Hi Alan, thank you very much for the time you took to respond and your heart for God's word.  I agree with you that the KJV is accurate.  I think it would help if I clarify the meaning of the poll because I think there has been a misunderstanding.  The title is "Would you use a simple accurate KJV update?"  The simple and accurate is referring to the update, not the KJV.  My meaning is: "Would you use a KJV update that is simple and accurately updates the KJV?"  This is not at all meaning that the KJV is not accurate, as I certainly believe it is.  Next time it may help you to be sure you are correctly understanding the meaning of a post.
Hi, thank you for your reply.  I am aware of the Modern English Version. It is a completely new translation that many people do not know or trust. It differs a lot from the KJV. I am wondering if people would want to use an exact KJV that has updated modern language.
Hi, thanks for the reply.  I agree that the italics are important in the KJV.  So I think any modern update to the KJV should keep them.

In my estimation the poll title is misleading and should not be used on this forum.
The poll title is: "Would you use a simple accurate KJV update?
The poll title insinuates that the KJV is not simple and is not accurate.
And, the poll title insinuates that that those who disagree are not willing to use an accurate version of the Bible.
Furthermore, since the poll is public on a KJV forum, the poll, due to its misleading title will be sending the wrong message to the reading public.
Besides being an inaccurate poll title, those individuals, such as 115 Timothy, here on Online Baptist who are KJV, and will not vote due to the inaccurate poll title and its insinuations, will not reflect accurate results. By the way, as with 115 Timothy, I will not vote as no matter how I vote the poll will not reflect my thoughts as the title is misleading.
The poll is a perfect tool for those who despise the KJV to openly discredit, on a KJV only forum nonetheless, those who believe that the KJV is the only, repeat only, accurate English translation available. If the majority votes that that will not probably not use a "simple and accurate KJV update?" they will be made to appear to be dunces and idiots.
In my estimation, this poll does not glorify God, nor the written word of God, in any manner.

Why would you need to update anything? The ‘old language’ is still perfectly good English. The fact that modern folks are too lazy to learn the meanings of words is no reason to change the Bible. Save your trouble and buy a dictionary. ?

You’ve hit a bone of contention for me - not so much in defense of the KJV, but in defense of good English.  You can’t really ‘simplify’ something without removing the depths of the meaning of the larger words. I think such an attempt, if made honestly to retain the true meaning, would result in unnecessary wordiness and a more confusing text.
Also, modern English has lost nuances — such as the difference between me and thee — an important difference in meaning that would be lost if the text was updated.

I hear preachers and evangelists on the radio using the MEVs* frequently--BUT, when they quote, they fall back on the kJV language they memorized and understand.
So, you're saying for 400 years folks had no trouble understanding the language of the KJV, correct? So, now I'll ask you a question or two.
Have people dumbed down that they don't understand what people have understood for 400 years? Or, sadly, is it possible preachers and evangelists are dumbing down?
No, I didn't take your poll.

It is always a worthy ideal to become a better Christian. So often we let the secular world, and the religious world, to determine our life. It should be the goal of every saint to walk closer with the Lord daily by careful renewing of our mind, and heart, through  meditation in the scriptures.
A careful reading of Colossians 3:1-9 will show that the apostle Paul mentioned to put away the sins of the flesh, our old nature, or our old man and its sinful ways,  and then said, "And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." Colossians 3:10

Can I just make a small correction - unless I am mistaken Brother Gibbs is not a Pastor. A good preacher, and as far as I could tell a godly man, and does a great work with the Christian Law Association and has done so for many years, but not a Pastor.
A technicality (unless something has changed over the years since I met him, in which case I apologise), but one that he himself made at the meetings I went to.
But he has a way in his preaching of making issues of life very relatable. Actually many of his messages are really very simple, you just don't realise that when you are sitting there - and sometimes the simple stops us from getting clouded with too many thoughts and ideas.

And to the brother who posed the original question - first, immerse yourself in the Bible, then make prayer a solid part of your life, after all:
    Heb 4:12
    (12)  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

But sometimes we need an example to follow:
    1Co 11:1
    (1)  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

This is Paul speaking and saying that he would serve as an example for other to follow, but his second phrase includes a proviso "even as I also as of Christ", which indicates that they could follow him AS HE FOLLOWED CHRIST.
Find a godly man to follow by example, AS THAT MAN FOLLOWS CHRIST.
    Php 3:17
    (17)  Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
Paul again - not only him but there are others who walk the right way and are worth following (Again, as they follow Christ).

Most people, even professing Christians, don't know this, don't know the various verses of Scripture which were scientifically accurate long before scientific man discovered such. Most just mindlessly spout off what they've heard from ungodly teachers, atheistic professors, the liberal media and fictional TV shows and movies.
It's amazing how often, both online and in person, people make false claims regarding the accuracy of Scripture as if what they declare is settled fact. Point out what Scripture actually says and most won't bother to check it out for themselves, they will just dismiss it or deny it.
It's good to remind ourselves God is Creator, and also all-knowing. God established all that is, was or ever will be. Imagine His own creation speaking as if they know more than God and as if their theories and attempts to sound brilliant are so far above the Word of God.
One of the things that struck me with so much awe and wonder after I was saved was my new appreciation for "nature". Suddenly I could see God's hand in all of creation and I remember the feelings within me to this day and how I praised God and thanked God so much and so often for the beauty and wonder of His creation.
Creation speaks to the fact of God and I'm glad you put forth this thread.

    The Ordinances of Heaven
Job 38:33, “Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? An ordinance is an established law or rule.
Astronomer and mathematician, Johannes Kepler 1571-1630, verified that the sun and the planets are governed by scientific laws, or ordinances. Johannes Kepler was a devout Christian. Kepler believed that God created the universe as the Bible says He did.
Psalm 119: 90 & 91, “Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.”  All of the ordinances of the physical universe were established by God. The ordinances of heaven include: the revolution of the earth the planets, the solar system, the revolution of the galaxy, and gravity. These ordinances were not understood throughout the centuries until scientists verified the ordinances of the solar system.
Johannes Kepler, and other scientists, has verified that the universe and all biological life is based on scientific fact. Evolution is based on randomness not verifiable scientific fact.
Jeremiah 31: 35-37, “Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.”
God established the ordinances of heaven, the physical universe, in Genesis chapter 1. These ordinances will continue until He creates the new heaven and the new earth: Isaiah 66: 22; 2 Peter 3:10-13 and Revelation 21:1

    This is an interesting subject.......
For my part, it is more about going forward than looking backwards.
As far as we can see in the Bible, churches are started by men sent out from other churches. What that means is that if someone wants to start a church they should do it with the proper authority from a sending church, just like in the Bible.
But as far as history is concerned.....
    1. If someone is relying on their past to prove their current standing they are on dangerous ground. Where does that church stand TODAY?
    2. How would anyone prove lineage all the way back? With all the persecution and subsequent secrecy at times it is practically impossible and therefore practically useless.
But just because a line of authority is impossible to prove in the past doesn't mean we shouldn't follow the biblical example of starting churches with authority.
How your church does things today is far more important than history and heritage. Those things can be undone in a matter of weeks even, with the influence of one strong willed man.
But a comparison to the Bible TODAY shows where a church is today.

Can you prove your doctrinal teachings go back to the first century? At any rate, why be concerned what anyone thinks of your ministry if you are doing it according to the instruction book that Paul gave the churches.

After condemning those that teach another gospel, he writes: "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ" (Galatians 1:10 KJV).

    Brethren,
We will be looking at the local church in 3 John 3-9; the love thereof, the joy thereof, the problem thereof,  the evil thereof, the solution thereof, and the good thereof.
In order to obtain the full riches of 3 John 3-9 we will need to look at the context of the rest of the book of 3 John and the short book of 2 John
The Apostle John expressed the  joy of every true pastor in 3 John 4, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."

What are you confused about? Is it the "three tenses"?
    Examples:
    [Past Tense]
    (Titus 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
    [Present Tense]
(1 Corinthians 1:18) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
    [Future Tense]
(1 Corinthians 3:15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Past, present, and future. Our salvation encompasses all three. I was saved many years ago in the "past", I'm "presently" saved today, and I'll be saved in the "future". It's not three different salvations; it's three aspects of one salvation.
