  1. I watched Osteen last Sunday because I was home recovering from a surgery . I thought he was quite good. He said we shouldn't allow others to bring us down and gave scripture to back it up. Very edifying.

  2. the only way the Lord would ever be present at his mega church would be to tell someone to flee this place, " a pastor he's not " he's a deceiver leading his followers to hell " we need to pray for him and his followers"

I think I need a little Osteen after last Sunday's condemnation sermon.

  3. A church preaching standards, & trying to get its members to hold to God's standards, is not working to be saved. Its obeying God, while living godly standards.

A church preaching standards is not preaching the Gospel (good news), they are under the law.  The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.  If people are being fed by anointed preaching, they will live as God wants them to - that is, those who choose to.  Same thing with brow-beating about tithing - if people are being fed and operating in the Spirit - they'll give cheerfully.  Sadly, in our own IFB church, the pastor rules and spirit is stifled.  It seems pastors don't trust God to work in the members - doesn't god give all spiritual gifts to edify the body????

Many churches & many Christians hates standards, & refuses to live up to God's standards after having been saved them anyone living up to God's standards they claim their trying to be saved by their standards, works.

Legalism is trying to be saved by works. We are saved only by grace though faith, not of self, not of works, its a free gift.

  4. I know that I am replying to an old question.  However, I want to address the question "what is a Free Methodist".

The Free Methodists split from the United Methodists mid-1800's.  They had become liberal even back then.

I was saved in a Free Methodist church many years ago.  When I moved, there was no Free Methodist church nearby, so we attended and became members of the Nazarene Church which has similar doctrines.  The focus is on entire sanctification and holiness.  Some take that to mean works or effort done in our flesh, but we all know the flesh will fail us.  Some in the churches I am speaking about do fall into that error; it is so easy to do.  Yet, I've been in an IFB church for 10 years and see the same thing - legalism and works so prominent.  Again, so easy to fall into that trap.

Back to Free Methodists - they are Wesleyan in doctrine and belief.  Yes, they also believe one can lose salvation.

  5. I am a Christian first, and a proud IFB, second.  I know for a fact the the Baptists can trace their roots back to the early church as mentioned in the Book of Acts, where 3,000 souls were saved an added to the church.  This was prior to Pentacost.

The Roman government and the Roman Catholic Church were murderers in those days.  They referred to the early Christians, as "Anabaptists" b/c they refused infant baptism, as it is not Biblical.  The Roman Emperor, Constantine, a pagan initiated the sacrament of "Infant Baptism."  Constantine was a pagan, like his dad.  His mother, Helena, was a Hebrew Christian.  My IFB church, along with other Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches hold strongly to the church doctine as stated in the Book of Acts.  Anabaptists were fed to the lions, slaughtered, had their heads chopped off, were tarred and feathered as they gave their lives to Jesus Christ.  The Baptist name has been around a very long long time.  There are various types of Baptists, as well.  In fact, before this country was founded, the Sephardic Jews (dark skinned Jews who immigrated from Spain), the American Indians... who were part Asian, and the Primitive Baptists lived on American soil before Columbus discovered America..  It is the Baptists that founded America.  Baptist, world history, is quite phenominal... as well.  Baptists are also the largest Christian denomination in America.  While Islam is the fastest growing religion, many Muslims are coming to Christ daily.  The Vatican claims that the RCC has the most members.  They do not.  They are going by the numbers of "infant baptisms" as all Roman Catholics, fall away Roman Catholics, and Roman Catholics who have been saved... have their names recorded in the Vatican records.  Back to Baptists.  I have mentioned this a few times before, but a good book to read is called, "AMERICA in Crimson Red" by Dr. James Beller.  Brother Beller is a IFB pastor and historical writer of Baptist history.  Baptists shed their blood and lives on American soil.  Also, another great writer is a man named, William J. Federer.  He wrote a Book called, "America's God and Country."  Brother Federer has a wonderful historical program on T.V. called, "Faith in History."  You don't need Satelite T.V. to watch his program.  It is a wonderful walk through American Christian history.

This is all so incredible! Never heard that before.  Baptists founded America??? I have been attending an IFB church now for 6 years and I've heard some things I've never heard before.  Baptists are not protestant, music is not worship, if you don't tithe, you're under a curse, women can 't even pray in a service, baptists go all the way back to John the Baptist, and the autonomy of the local church.  It's all pretty hard to believe.  And, I think whether I believe that or not, it won't have any effect on eternity.

  6. God promised us he would preserve his Word and he did so with the Authorized Version, the King James Bible.  God didn't make any mistakes; it's us, man, whether in typesetting or understanding we err.

In my feeble brain, and having never read Greek, "falling away" in this context could mean both to me, the rapture of the saints and what we're living today, a great apostasy, and that both must happen before the man of sin is revealed.  However, I've been taught the former and not the latter.  It doesn't seem to really matter now does it?

I have a question.  Is God English?  If He preserved the KJV for English-speaking people then what did He do for other peoples speaking other languages???

  7. It's not good to put God in box. He can do anything He wants, when He wants. If that means that He inspires tongues of give gifts of those or prophecies, so be it. We have Him in a neat tight little package and don't allow Him to come out - so our faith is nothing more than a bunch of words on a page. The Bible, or our understanding of the Bible usurps the Holy Spirit. What, my friends did Christians do before they had their own copy of the bible for the first 17 centuries? For no one during those centuries could have private bible studies, could they?

  8. Hello and Greetings,
I've already posted in the false religions area. I apologize for my negativity towards Baptist. I have been a member of two Independent Baptist Fundamental Churches over the last 15 years. I do have issues with them. I come from a holiness background and am finding it difficult to be content as a Baptist. I guess I even had issues with the holiness churches I've been in too. I almost went Catholic and for 10 years was headed in that direction but stopped short because of my wife's resistance. I may try to post more but have to get to work.
    Regards,

  9. Really, you should be interested in knowing when the Baptists came about. I do believe they are post-reformation. It's incredible that some claim they go all the way back to John the Baptist. Even if the evil Catholic Church destroyed their writings, there would still be some around that pre-date the 16th Century - Catholics couldn't have been that effective in destroying 100% of any baptist documents. And, what about the Bible? Didn't Catholics preserve it? If they were so evil, wouldn't they have tried to destroy it???

Personally, I'm not that interested in it or I would have remembered more about what I read along these lines. For myelf it's not important when Baptists were first called Baptists but there are others who take great interest in this. You'll have to ask one of them for solid answers regarding this.
  10. It is that belief that our works are as filthy rags that cause people to DO NOTHING. Yet in James, we find it is "not by faith alone", we must have works. So where are the Baptist Hospitals? Some of the local baptist churches in my area think that having a car show will win souls to Christ. Yes, they even have the country band under tent for an outside service to show how much "fun" Baptists have. Another thing about Baptists is that they separate themselves from the rest of the Christian body. Isn't that a bit haughty? Our church (independent fundamental baptist), brags that they are not like those other churches, just like that Pharisee that prayed in the temple that he thanked God that he was not like that publican over there.
I'm not trying to criticize, but this is my observation and I do attend a fundamental baptist independent church.
