That is so very sad and I sorrow with you and your daughter.
No words I could say would really help right now so I will simply say that I will certainly pray for you, your daughter, your husband and the this whole situation.

Another perversion based upon opinion of a very small, mouthy minority, not worthy a response, (even though I gave one).

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13
Romans 1: 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Actually a day or two still to go, but extended family are all going out for dinner tonight.

I praise God for a wonderful Godly wife.

<shrugs> God gave us this country and He expects us to be good stewards of what He's given us.  If Christians want to allow the liberties and freedoms (for the express purpose of being the Christians God wants us to be) He's given us in this country to slip out of their hands, well, that's what so many are doing.   But, hey, it sure sounds spiritual to say Jesus didn't do it, so we shouldn't.  Except that Jesus didn't get on the Internet. Or drive a car. Or, or, or....He and His disciples also lived in an empire, where the law of the land was at the whim of the king.  However, God saw fit to grant to us the privilege of deciding what laws we would have, who we would entrust the making of those laws to, etc. Being a Christian does not automatically mean we are to not participate in some way (whatever way God would lay on the heart, and that would include prayer, voting, even running for office in order to serve, etc) to ensure our liberties do not fade away.
I know - that isn't popular anymore.  It's more popular to say that we are only called to be soulwinners (yes, we should do that, and all that Jeffrey wrote).  But that just isn't true.  We are called to live in the world, even though we are not to be of it.  Participating in the governmental process in a federal constitutional republic such as ours (well, what it should be) does not make us of the world, but in it.  Being of it is being consumed by the world's philosophies and practices.  Government is not one of those, because God ordained government . And in America, He allowed us to be the government.  Sadly, we have let down that role.  Badly.  And we aren't the soulwinners we should be, either.  That is obvious from the gross sin that is being accepted all around us.  Our salt has just about lost its savor, even as we sit and say we are only to do just so much and no more...
(and I believe God would have us stand behind anti-gay-marriage amendments (on a state level, not federal)...after all, He did command that they be killed in the OT.  Passing an amendment is a much kinder, gentler way of dealing with the issue, because we are under grace, not law...and would still give Christians a chance to witness to the lost gay person...etc)
One last edit...being concerned about the country God gave us is not idolatry (although I agree that it can become such if allowed), nor is it necessarily fear.  It is taking care of what God has given.

For a variety of reasons, I don't believe it's the majority in this country.  But that's another topic altogether. I do agree that the uneducated (as well as the apathetic) will, together with voter fraud, keep the corrupt in office.

It's not supposed to be Baptist only. It's supposed to be Independant Baptist only. That leaves out the southern Baptist as well. Also, it's just a website, not a church assembly or a place to post on and get a ticket into heaven. You wouldn't look to a Wal-mart website for Biblical advice or discussion. Neither would I look here for groceries. It's just a place where like minded people can talk to each other. Nothing More.

That does sound good - and, Miss Linda, we'd all love to get some of that cake. We love cherry and chocolate both. I'm not a great big cake fan, but for cherry and chocolate combined?  Oh, yeah!
Haven't decided on tonight's supper yet.  I was thinking fried chicken, but we had that the other night. I might do sloppy joes or homemade burgers.

I noticed Warren followed the path many others before him have followed. While not as sound as it should be, his earlier work is more biblically sound, but as he gained in popularity and obviously craved the attention (especially being called "America's pastor", not what Billy Graham is retired) his books took on more and more of a "social gospel" aspect, which isn't what Scripture teaches, but is something the world likes and something many Christians fall for.

Yes, it's awesome, awesomely watered down! Rick Warren is spot on trying to appease the world while trying to be a Christian leader.
May the one become dusty and the other set his feet firmly on the narrow path, not caring for worldly acceptance.

Excellent study in the Word last night! We studied how we are to cast aside self and live for Christ. In this, we are not to try and shine light upon ourselves, but rather to reflect the light of Christ to others.
We also discussed the importance of not holding onto regrets and other things from our past which weigh us down. Through Christ we have been forgiven and we must forgive ourselves and others also. We are to lay aside every weight that hinders us. When we cast our cares upon the Lord, we must remember to leave them there instead of picking them back up to carry some more.

Miss Linda reacted to Ukulelemike in Makes Me Think
One of the things I really like about being on this forum is that it really makes me think about what I believe. I learn to look at other views, other ideas, it pulls me out of my comfy box, I guess, makes me delve deeper into doctrines that I have taken, perhaps, for granted. generally I have come out where I started, but in those cases I generally have ended up so because I have reinforced my position in my heart and mind through study and review. Sometimes I have shifted a bit, for the same reasons.
I hope we never cease being willing to listen and to challenge ourselves. We are imperfect humans, though saved, (praise God) and we are still prone to error. When we cease to believe this, error will surely become false doctrine.
Love all the folks on here, even those with whom I may find myself at odds from time to time. I am always feeling enriched and edified.

Miss Linda reacted to John81 in Christian based movies
I find it troubling that in many Christian movies they tend to use some form of "quick prayerism" (or whatever one wants to call it).
Also, when it comes to those dealing with the end times there seems to be much confusion. While most pre-trib rapture pastors preach that if one had the chance to accept Christ prior to the rapture but didn't, they won't be able to after the rapture. Yet many of the end times movies feature those who had opportunity to be saved prior to the rapture suddenly "getting it", saying a quick prayer and being saved after the rapture.
Along these same lines, while most pre-trib rapture pastors preach the anti-Christ will rule the world brutally, that Christians will be persecuted and killed, and that this is all a part of God's end time plan; most of these movies dealing with the end times features new Christians fighting against the anti-Christ, often with the insinuation they could possibly prevail, and somehow these new Christians always seem to be a step ahead of the anti-Christ and causing him much trouble and thwarting his plans. All of this, in light of what the pastors preach on this matter, would indicate the Christians in these end times films are fighting against God since He's revealed this as His plan for judgment during that time.
Most of the end times movies these days also feature many Catholics being raptured away. They also present the idea that a very large number of people around the world are raptured. Both of these ideas fly in the face of Scripture which says one must be biblically born again to be saved and that few will enter.
Some of the Christian movies are entertaining, and some even have some good messages within, but many of them contain much that is questionable, especially when it is the opposite of what many pastors are preaching on the matter.

I think 'from the surface' is the significant term there. What we've seen going on recently is one undeniably big spat between about three or four forum members, carried on over three or four threads. But there are hundreds of members and dozens of threads active at any one time, so it's hardly representive of the forum overall. There's been no change of guard: the forum is still run by Matt and together with the mods he and they run the site the same way they've always run it. The membership is the same too: a bunch of people, coming and going, for the most part fellowshipping, given to arguing now and then. By God's grace the fellowshipping happens a lot more than the arguing, and that's not true for all forums.
