Wilchbla got a reaction from 1Timothy115 in To Tell, or To Hear Some New Thing
The Athenians weren't looking for the truth just whatever would titillate their minds. They liked to used big words and fair speeches to inflate their egos and "one up" each other. Basically what the Pharisees did with religion the philosophers of Greece did with education. If you are seeking wisdom that is the truth there is nothing wrong with that. I don't believe God wants a bunch of dumbells.

I've read these chapters plenty and still can't figure them out. Seems to me that the events concerning God and Magog occur after the 1,000 year reign of Christ yet in these chapters the battle seems to take place before the millenial reign. Who knows. All I know is much bigger problems in my life to be concerned about then banging my head on the wall trying to make head or tails over this stuff.

Wilchbla reacted to Steve Schwenke in THE "SEVEN DISPENSATIONS" VIEWED IN THE LIGHT OF SCRIPTURE
If you believe that there is a difference between the OT and the NT, then you hold to a form of dispensationalism.
If you believe that there is a difference between the Church and Israel, then you hold to a form of dispensationalism.
If you believe that there is a difference between the demands of the OT Law upon Israel, and the removal of the Law after the Death of Christ, then you hold to a form of dispensationalism.

Dispensationalism merely recognizes the differences of God's dealing with men during different periods of time. Those who do not hold to dispensationalsim focus on the similarities, and overlook the obvious.
Yes, faith is required from Genesis to Revelation. I understand and accept that. But faith in what?
In the OT, under the Law, the offerings were REQUIRED, period. There is no getting around that fact. God wrote an entire book about the OT sacrificial ceremonial system - Leviticus. They were REQUIRED to worship at the Temple (or Tabernacle).
We are no longer required to offer ANY sacrifices, or go to any "holy" place, or keep any of the OT feasts.
That is a difference between the OT and NT.
Now what I just wrote was one very simple and very obvious difference.
Dispensationalism merely seeks to identify and understand these differences, and identify the time periods these differences existed in.
Some things remain the same, but not all things.
Some people try to split the dispensational hairs to closely.
Some people try to blur all the lines of distinction.

But to say that everything is the exact same from Genesis to Revelation is absurd.
Here is another example. Are we required to build an Ark to save our families? Noah was. If he had not built the Ark, he would have drowned with everyone else. Thus, the way God dealt with Noah, and the way God deals with us is different. Noah did not have any written Scripture. We do. God spoke directly to Noah, personally and audibly. God speaks to us today through the written word of God, and leads us by the Holy Spirit. DIFFERENCES.

    It is that simple.
Now, if you guys want to argue about it, fine - thats up to you.
As for me, I have better things to do.

Wilchbla reacted to Brother Rick in Video: What's the Big Deal about the King James Version of the Bible? By Sam Gipp
We are saved by faith by believing the gospel, according to I Cor. 15. The gospel is the message of the good news of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. It is THAT MESSAGE that saves, if one is willing to believe it by faith.

That message can be communicated many ways, and one of the ways in which God has used to communicate that message is through corrupt Bible versions. God used Samson and many other people when they were imperfect and out of the will of God, because God can and does use whatever He wants.

I have personally met many Christians that have been saved and led others to the Lord through modern corrupt versions. Many of them are strong, praying, witnessing soldiers of the faith that are decieved in a couple areas.

The new bibles are corrupt, but they portray enough truth of who Jesus is and what the gospel is to easily lead someone to the Lord.

To say someone must be saved out of a King James Bible is ridiculous and not supported by anything at all.

You always find a way to add requirements to salvation that are not in the Scriptures, brother.

This one really takes the cake though.

It's the only Bible that attempst this. You can get other material that attempts to put things in Chronological order but not a Bible you can just sit down and read.

Also, Reese seems pretty solid doctrinally. I believe he teaches at Crown College in TN.

Wilchbla got a reaction from Brother Rick in Rapture
There will be a rapture of the church before the tribulation and a rapture of the tribulation saints before the Second Coming. The 144,000 possibly will be taken out at the half way of the point of the Tribulation along with the two witnesses after they are killed. If you lump it all together (the Jew, Gentile and church of God) being raptured out at the end of the tribulatin then you fall into all kinds of doctrinal contradictions especially in soteriology.

Yes, that would be correct. But the verse in 1 Peter 3 is saying that he preached specifically to those spirits which were disobedient during the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared...

Instead of skimming over it, if you will pay attention to each individual word in a Bible verse, you will be able to UNDERSTAND what that verse is saying. Take the word "which" for example.

Who did Jesus preach to? Spirits
    Where? "the spirits in prison;"
    "Which" spirits are specified?
20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

    Ok.

Well, then, I apologize for using a colloquialism that is not meant to be taken literally!

Would this be acceptable: "Wow guys, this is really boring! I don't think anyone has gained a theological inch in the 238 posts that have been slapped up here, this thread is as dead as last year's Christmas tree!"

    Please prove your statement.

Besides, my advice would be to get you a KJB, and a good old English dictionary with word origin references..I put my trust in the Jesus of the King James Bible, not "Calvin's Institutes", Adrian Rogers, or any other man.

Wilchbla got a reaction from swathdiver in Sad Continual Fall of the Once Great Britain
I guess it really doesn't matter much anymore. Great Britain is pretty much finished and has been since World War II. Really the nations downfall probably began around World War I. With them helping to restore the Jews to Palestine pretty much was a sign of the decline of all Gentile nations worldwide. Hopefully the Lord's return is soon cuz I can't take much more of this place.

Wilchbla reacted to swathdiver in How Long Before You Wake Up, Politicos?
The answer to America's problems is not political. It is a matter of the heart. While we must be vigilant in the political arena, more importantly we must win souls for Christ. A genuine Christian, schooled in the doctrines of the Scriptures would never entertain the schemes of the heathen left nor elect them or hire them to serve the public. However, so many institutions are morally bankrupt being staffed with immoral and Godless people that genuine reforms are nearly impossible. Only by abolishing those institutions and starting over can this nation's government begin to honor the Lord again. Matthew 6:33 comes to mind when it comes to politics.

Who said anything about joining churches that teach salvation by works? You talk about going off the deep end. The discussion was about not throwing out books by certain authors that may have a few irrelavent beliefs we disagree with like the gap theory or double inspiration. How this got to teaming up with the WCCC is beyond me.

Wilchbla reacted to HappyChristian in Don't Toss the Baby out with the Bathwater!
There are many well-known writers who I wouldn't read because I know what they teach - and I don't want to have to wade through and pick and choose what is right from what is wrong. That said, we do have books that were written by people with whom we don't agree 100%, but they have a lot of biblical teaching. In those cases, we eat the meat and spit out the bones.

We are to be careful what we read - what is allowed into our eyes quickly goes to our minds and makes its way to our hearts, thus influencing us. If something promotes the philosophies and traditions of the world, we are not to countenance it. Unfortunately, there are those who are popular who insert much of that philosophy into what they write, thus becoming a danger to new Christian and old alike.

That is not to say throw the baby out with the bathwater, but it is to say that our guide must be scripture, and we must be thoroughly familiar with the truths of scripture if we are going to combat error.

If blood type can be inherited also from the mother, how could there be a "pure bloodline" in the lineage of Christ? He would have inherited genetics from Rahab (a Canaanite) and Ruth (a Moabite}. And if my memory serves me correctly, my Father and I had different blood types.

Wilchbla got a reaction from Brother Rick in Where do we draw the line for IFB?
If ya'll decide to do this you should first determine what constitutes an Independent Fundamental Baptist. At least if that is the qualification to be a member or being allowed to post. For an example, believing or not believing in double inspiration doesn't determine if someone is an IFBer or not. Especially since at the end of the day you BOTH believe that the KJV is the inerrant word of God. It doesn't matter how it got there just that it is. Neither does, say, believing or not believing in the gap theory. Especially since all gap theorists that I know of still believe in a literal seven day creation. If you expect too much you'll end up with nothing but a nice little clique in here of about five people and that's about it.

Christmas to me is a time to get together with family and it's a day full of good memories. Not once have I worshipped Saturn, thrown a yule log under a tree to receive gifts from Woden or swallowed a "Jesus cookie" (i.e. Eucharist) on that day nor do I intend to. It's also a good time to talk to people about the Lord Jesus Christ who at other times of the year might not be open to it.

I agree. Bible institutes are usually more affordable and people who have other responsibilites like a job or family can attend them. This makes them more available for older folks too. A Bible institute is at or near the local church is even better. Something about studying the word of God at your local church seems better than studying it in another city or state at a school. Don't ask me why. I really believe that churches should be training and teaching those called at their church instead of sending them off to school. Just my opinion.

I think the best option for a biblical education is a local Bible institute. I have friends that went to some of the big Bible colleges and they say that they are over-priced. Someone could leave there in a lot of debt. Same friends say that you learn more actual Bible doctrine by going to a local Bible institute.

I went to a local Bible institute and I'm not saying I'm smarter than anyone else, but I was able to work a job during the day and go to class at night and left the school with no debt. It cost $300 a semester, not the thousands of dollars that the big schools cost.

I graduated Bible school, bought my first house, and married my wife all within the same two week period. I don't think that could have happened if I was going to a big school.

Everyone is different and God leads people in different directions, but I think the best choice is a local Bible Institute if there's one around. We have people come from all over the country to go to ours.

Exceptions prove the rule. Usually when Calvinism creeps into a church that's the end of it. You do have more moderate forms like Dr. James Kennedy and his "evangelism explosion" but, like I said, exceptions prove the rule. I use to attend Regular Baptist churches who are moderate Calvinists and some of the churches tried to reach the lost and some of them left it up to God to overcome them with his "irresistable grace".

Sounds like you attended a Holiness church. A friend of mine used to be involved in that denomination and they had some extreme teachings. "No hose, no toes and no shows" was on of them. If a woman wore pantyhose she was going to hell. If a woman wore shoes that exposed their toes she was going to hell. And if anyone watched any movies or TV they were going to hell. Women also could never cut their hair or wear shirts with sleeves shorter than three quarters length of the arms. Yet at the same time his church had two woman pastors who would preach AT THE SAME TIME during Sunday service screaming over each other.
