  1. I see nothing wrong with a so-called Christian dating site but you should be very careful as with anything. Some men or women just might not be in a church that has any eligible prospects. I am speaking of older people on their own though.

  2. I'm probably in the minority who think wine means wine, not grape juice, in the bible and alcohol can be consumed in moderation. Yet at the same time I think in present day America Christians should avoid this because the unbelievers on the most part think you should avoid it and in America alcohol has a reputation of being the "devil's drink". At least it did at one time. I've also heard that the alcohol content of modern day alcohol as way beyond the content of alcohol in booze back in the old days.

  3. I agree with you Calvary, yet I will say that some live way to high off of God's Word, but that's for our Lord to take care of.

I know of two Baptist churches that I attended for a time that went through this. The one pastor demanded 60k a year plus the house with all expenses paid. This was back in '95 so that was a pretty good clip. The other church which was relatively small and poor couldn't find a pastor for a long time because they couldn't afford the outrageous salaries they wanted. The one pastor who'd recently graduated from Hyles-Anderson would only preach on Sunday morning until he got the pay he wanted. The last I heard this church was still looking for a pastor.

  4. "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection." Revelation 20:5

Men of God, what is the meaning of this verse? Who are the "rest of the dead" and what does it mean here by "the first resurrection"?

It's the first resurrection IN THE CONTEXT of the events John is writing of at that time. Not the FIRST first resurrection.

Those who were slain for the testimony of Jesus Christ during the great tribulation will be raised before the millennium. Those who took the mark (the rest of the dead) will have to wait another thousand years for the Great White Throne Judgement.
  5. The bottomline is that if the church will goes the great tribulation then there is no such thing as eternal security because anyone who takes the mark of the beast will burn in hell. And please don't tell me that a "true" Christian wouldn't take the mark. I know of tons of "true" Christians who can't drive by a Burger King without succumbing to the temptation.

  6. I would NOT vote for Paul because of his stance on Israel. The only thing that is keeping America from finally being wiped out by God is because of our help we give to Israel which they WANT. Israel is the only nation in the world that votes with us 100% across the board in everything within the UN. They do everything we ask them to do whether good or bad. To cut them off now after they've towed the line in everything we asked them too is beyond reproach. Again, the only reason God still is with us is because we are one of the few nations that support Israel. God could careless about our Constitutional rights now after all the wickedness that this nation has committed in the last 50 years including 30+ million abortions and the almost complete apostasy of the church within America with 10 new version of the bible coming out every year. There is no righting the ship now. I don't understand how Christians think that the answer to America's woes is electing a guy who would legalize drugs, protistution, and not only cut off Israel but encourage the whole relocation of the Jews themselves (oh, you betcha). Don't let you hatred of Obama blind you completely.

  7. "When I preach I sin,
    when I pray I sin,
my very repentance needs repenting of,
and my tears need washing in the blood of Jesus Christ". -Unknown

  8. That's the same teaching that filled New England and flamed the fans of war that led to the so-called American Civil War.

The song "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was written by one who believe in this cause. The song is about the idea of Lincoln and the Union ridding the nation of evil, bringing about paradise by their actions. In most cases where folks today thing the lyrics are referring to God, they are in fact referring to Lincoln as a modern (at that time) messiah figure doing the work of God in killing the wicked so "good" could be ushered in in preparation for them to establish paradise.

Most of those in New England pushing this were Unitarians, or their churches had been infected with this principle.

I don't see how any look at history from the time of the Apostles to today could be viewed as the world as a whole being won to Christ, evil being pushed back, any sort of paradise being in the making anywhere.

If one discounts worldly christians (meaning those who are Christian in name only, not born again in Christ), the number, or percentage of biblical Christians in the world has always been rather small and still is.

Actually, a lot of the great missionaries of the end of the 19th century were postmillenial and this probably was a driving force behind their efforts. You can catch a glimpse of it in a lot of the old hymns. For example in the hymn Lead on O King Eternal there's the stanza that says:

"by deeds of love and mercy,
    the heavenly kingdom comes".

But, like I said, a century of World Wars put an end to that thinkly quickly.
  9. Carring a bible in the open where people can see you can be a character builder for a Christian. People will know exactly what it is and who you are (i.e a "bible thumper") and it's one of the easiest ways to find out who among your group who loves the bible and who doesn't. It will also embolden other Christians who may be to afraid to profess their faith for fear of being picked on or ostracized. If I see a person carry a bible, say to work, I'll be more likely to strike up a conversation about the things of God than if he/she didn't. And you'll be surprised how much courage others Christians who may work with you will start to show. You can't get this with an electronic device. Not that I'm against having these things. I have an bible app on my phone that I highly recommend. But they shouldn't replace the book itself.

And as in church I want to go to a church where everyone has the bible out. There's nothing like that in the world.

  10. As honorable as McCain's service was, he needs to sit down. Going to war because he believes the U.S. has a moral obligation to Syria to halt their bloodshed?

I'm certainly glad he isn't running for POTUS again.

When will we hear about the moral obligation to U.S. citizens.

What does McCain think he is, the Rifleman...que the video Chuck Conners ratcheting that Winchester.

As long as any nation adheres to the Quran they cannot be made into a democracy. It worked in Japan but there was a complete decimation of the former culture of Emperor worship. If that wasn't gotten rid of democracy would have never worked in Japan. The same goes for in the Middle East. As long as we try to install democratic forms of government while building mosques and madrasahs we will continue to pour billions down the drain.

  11. In chapter fifteen, we see a large group of people in heaven who will have chosen to accept the gospel of Christ even though it will cost them their lives. They praise God while He sends seven angels out of the temple with the last seven plagues for the earth.

    Revelation 15:1–3 KJV
1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

Please consider these verses and tell me who you think they are?

This is the saved Jewish remnant as well as the Gentiles that endured unto the end. Chapters 14-16 are the antitype of God's deliverence of the children of Israel from Egypt under Moses' leading. Notice they are singing the song of Moses. The tribulation saints will be taken out just before God drops the hammer on this world in the form of the vial judgements. This all takes place in the final days of the great tribulation. This has nothing to do with any Christians in the church age alive or dead.

  12. They still don't get it, John.

I reckon it is because it is not given for them to know.

And because they don't know, they falsely accuse us of not having love.

Good grief. If we were only as tight with the Lord as you are.

  13. In some recent readings I've come across this several times and I must admit, I know very little about this.

Is anyone here a Postmillennialist of any kind (apparently there are more than one kind)?

I've read that many or most Christians until more modern times held to some form of this view, is that true?

In trying to look up information on this online I've not yet found anything definitive.

I'll post some of what one site had to say, but the article is based upon one persons personal study and journey so feel free to point where he is right or wrong and why. I've only read a portion so far, so I might read more before I post some so I will have read it at least once.

I saw a list of some supposedly known people who hold this view today, but I only recognized a couple names on the list but I'm not familiar with their work or teaching.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Postmillenialism was all the rage until WWI broke out. It basically teaches that the kingdom of Christ will be brought in to earth by the work of the church. With enough good works and the church getting everyone converted that Christ will return and take his place as king. Anyone who still believes in this should have his/her head checked.
  14. A good friend of mine who is a pastor of a church in PA doesn't pass an offering plate around. He has a box in the back and if people want to give they give what they can. He rarely preaches on giving. Not only does God take care of his little church (about 60 members max) but he has been able to throw his support behind a few missionaries.

Here's his church. If you are ever in his area check it out.
