As to the issue of whether or not they “have their reward”, are doing it “to be seen of men”? Probably not, only 2-4 people are likely to know (unless they use an accountant or are audited.) If they do as one man I knew of many years ago who had his check sticking out of his shirt pocket with the dollar figure (on the right side of the check) visible as he shook hands around the church (of over 1000 people) - well, he already received his reward!

One of our granddaughters, Esther, (the oldest child of our oldest son) was admitted to the burn unit in Wichita, KS on 15Sep20. Next month (Nov 2020) she will be 8 y.o.
I took my wife to Dodge City to watch the other 3 children. Alisha (Esther's mother) is at the hospital with Esther. David (Esther's father) had to go back to work this week.
Esther is burnt over 40% of her body, 60% of the right leg and 50% of the right arm are 3rd degree burns, the remainder is 2nd degree.
When Esther gets back home (probably 2 or more weeks from now), our oldest daughter, Rebekah, (the one the Lord healed from Myeloid Leukemia after the doctors told here there was nothing else they could do for her) will go to Dodge City to handle in-home nursing for her (she's a CMA, CNA, Cardiotech and probably a few more things I don't remember).
Rebekah started a GoFundMe to try to defray some of the costs beyond David's insurance.

Updates are being placed on the GoFundMe page as they happen. Yes, the page list Rebekah as beneficiary - Rebekah needed to set things up quickly. David has his Venmo set up now, so the GFM monies can be transferred to him as needed.

Different tools and/or approaches affect different people in different ways.
I know a man who was given a tract on Halloween and stuck it in his coat pocket. A month later (after his daughter died) he found it (while looking for a cigarette). He went to the church named on the tract and two services later got saved. One man, backslidden after a nasty church split, got right after finding a tract in a public restroom. Another man found a tract while cleaning a bathroom, read it and got saved. For my f-i-l it took a personal letter from a co-worker, pieces of witness from my wife and I, and the witness of a two former Marines ---- over the course of 34 years. My wife grew up knowing Jesus died, was buried and rose again for redemption from sin, but never knew she could be reconciled with God NOW (she was raised RC). There are some places where it is considered extremely rude (to the point of being offensive) to begin a conversation with a stranger on the street, places where door knocking is impractical to impossible, places where a mailing ministry is impossible (there are neither building numbers nor mail service in all of Nicaragua, there's only 15 named roads in the whole country). Some people need to handled roughly and some gently.
I could go on, but, we need discernment more than methods.

South Carolina has stated no groups over 3 people, Alaska has said no gatherings in any locations (including the woods) for religious activities, Bill DeBlassio (NY) has said the police will stop services in churches and synagogues and has threatened to close offending places PERMANENTLY (even after COVID elimination). DeBlassio is also using police to enforce distances between people in public (he didn't say if that included couples or parent/child combos walking together). Kansas declared church and religious services as essential business just as grocery stores, and Georgia declared alcohol dealers as non-essential (unlike most states).

I'm beyond caring about government mandated closures - I am increasingly thinking we should close (or meet outside - like Russian believers under Communism) for each other's safety. Actually - churches did that during the Spanish Influenza when they chose to shut the building doors!

Seriously, DaveW, let's give it a break on the whole defending-David-Cloud bit. No one's out to attack him. The church and the subject were brought up by another member; UkeMike is just continuing the discussion on tribulational doctrine in the churches. Can we focus on that, please?

What I dont understand is the treating of the issue as heresy. Yes, I believe that the post-trib rapture view is incorrect, but does every difference of opinion over doctrine have to be treated as actual heresy? When we do this, it weakens the charge against actual, serious heresy, like denying the divinity of Christ, the resurection or or the second coming. No one is denying anythig, just disagreeing on the timing of it all.
Is wisdom not, in part, learning to pick our battles?

I think there are things that most church members just dont really know or understand about pastoring and preaching. And we ourselves often cant clarify it for them.
For instance, I am completely exhausted after preaching. Body, soul and spirit, I am completely pored out. I am not a screamer or a "windsucker" kind of preacher, but I am passionate, focused and "all in" when I preach. I usually feel like I just finished digging ditches for 8 hours, except digging ditches doesnt drain me spiritualy and emotionally. Add to that 1 1/2 hours of picking up kids before church from the surrounding farm communities, rushing in at the last minute to lead the singing, preaching, then fellowshiping and looking out for visitors during the meal after the service, and then the 1 1/2 hours taking kids home, I'm whipped.
I know sometimes I probably seem a bit unsociable or remote after about 3:00pm on Sunday. But I can only hope people understand. Im never unkind or discourteous, just...wore out. I dont think thats something we can define for those who havent experienced it.

OLD fashioned preacher got a reaction from Musician4God1611 in How taxes work - 10 Men Go To Dinner.
I may have posted this in the past - but due to the number of people willing to consider socialism:
How taxes work - 10 Men Go To Dinner.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner and the bill for all comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

    10 MEN GO TO DINNER.

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing like they do now with the present income tax structure.

    The fifth would pay $1.

    The sixth would pay $3.

    The seventh would pay $7.

    The eighth would pay $12.

    The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59 of the bill.

So that is what the ten men decide to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you all are such good customers I am going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20". Dinner for the 10 men now costs just $80...

The group still wanted to pay the bill the same way that they paid their taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six men -- the Paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everybody would get his "Fair Share"?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth and sixth man would each end up being paid to eat their meal...

So, the restaurant owner suggested it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill roughly the same amount; and proceeded to work out the amounts each man would pay.

The fifth, like the first four now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth man now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings)

The seventh man now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings)

The eight man now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)

The ninth man now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings)

The tenth man now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings)

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings...

"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man "but he got $10"...

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than me!?"

"That's true", shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth man and beat him up...

The next night the Tenth man did not show up for dinner, so the Nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half the bill!

And that Boys & Girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just might not show up anymore. In fact, they might start eating overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier?

With the above scenario, determined to still go out it would have to be adjusted similar to this:
Determined not to do without their freebies and causing the other 5 to feel guilty for entertaining the idea that life is not free the 4 still pay $0 for a $10 meal.

    #5 pays $2.44 instead of $1
    $6 pays $7.31 instead of $3
    #7 pays $17.07 instead of $7
    #8 pays $29.27 instead of $12
    $9 pays $43.91 instead of $18

Total $100 just as before -- but wait!
#10 left, he didn't consume a $10 meal, we have extra money -- should we divide it amongst those who paid extra for their meal?

No, that is just greed on the part of the 5, give each of the 4 who got free meals $2.50 each and don't make them buss tables and earn it -- now THAT'S fair!
