My wife and the family we're staying with are teaching each other different things in the kitchen. They have taught her how to make gallo pinto, she taught true Southern fried chicken. She's learning how to make tortillas from scratch, Monday she will teach them to make biscuits from scratch.
This is a VERY Catholic family, please pray we have an open door for effective witness in spite of the language difficulty.

So far we have had some interesting adventures and misadventures in Matagalpa. Have been overcharged a couple of times (gringo tax). Made a couple of good contacts in town including a national pastor (Ivis Calindres of Calvary Baptist, Matagalpa) who may be able to help us get our feet on the ground when we move here (they have been instrumental in establishing six churches in the country). Our sending church will be Old Paths Baptist Church in Ruidoso, N.M. (Pastor Joshua de los Santos) and they will be helping our linguistic studies as we seek to raise support. The owner of the house we are staying in is keeping our feet to the fire by forcing us to use Spanish ---- which is good.

When I can later, I will get a multimedia presentation sent to you. I know that prayer support is vital for the missionary AND the congregation. Christians need missions always before them lest it become "out of sight, out of mind". There's something about "the missionary we pray for" or if a youth group or Sunday School class has "OUR missionary".

Though I've never met Bro. Dayton personally, I'm quite familiar with him. He originally went to Costa Rica to learn Spanish, one year later went to Managua. One of my national pastor contacts (Her. Ramon Gonzalez Sequeria, Pastor of Iglesia Bautista Renacer since 1974) is a product of Bro. Dayton's ministry. Between 26 known mission boards in the U.S. (there's no way to count the number of missionaries not through boards) there are only 12 missionaries in Nicaragua (6 are BIMI). There are only 188 known IB churches in the country (in comparison there are over 600 in NC and over 800 in TX) and some of them (such as the one in Jinotega) have become Charismatic.

Please pray for us.
Selling or giving away practically everything (amazing how much 2 frugal people accumulate in 15 years after losing almost all in a hurricane and tornado). Giving "heirlooms" and such "family possessions" to my kids / grandkids.
Looking for small motorhome for temp housing while on deputation for $6000 or less. (Target date for being on the field 31Dec19).
Technologically challenged couple trying to put together presentation, etc. for deputation.
Cracking down on seeking proficiency in Spanish for two old codgers.
We are going on a "survey / fact-finding" trip 25Dec17-12Jan18.
We are going to Nicaragua (missionary) probably beginning ministry in / near Jinotega or Boaco. The Lord has already provided me with a couple of national contacts (a paralegal who is familiar with Nicaragua visas and a Nicaraguan Independent Baptist pastor) and a gringo missionary in Matagalpa. The national pastor should be able to make me aware of existing solid Baptist churches that might be in an area that most gringos wouldn't know was there because of them being the result of the ministry of a Nica church instead of a US missionary. That should help avoid an unwitting waste of time and effort in an "already covered" area.
If someone knows of some churches which have an annual missions conference that might be worth my while, please let me know. I've always stayed in my little corner, minding my own business and busy with the ministry the Lord had me in. As a result, most the people and contacts I knew are in Glory now. I know no one, no one knows me (which can be a blessing or a frustration).

Isn't it interesting how ppl are so averse to discussing certain topics such as Evolution without being rude and dismissive of the plain facts. It's the same ignorance that Nazi sympathizers held on to, stating the Holocaust never occurred or the same prejudice of those in Salem in the 1600's who thought the lady who acted just a bit peculiar, needed to be burned. God gave us the ability through millions of years of existence, to rationalize and understand God's creation. Does the notion of evolution understate the beauty of God's creation? Anyway, I think Bill Nye destroyed Hamm's argument. He has yet to make a valid argument against the facts.
Looking at your screen name (Jesus Lives in us) leads me to the question -- how much of (which parts of) the Bible do you believe to be the Word of God? (If it is the Word of God it will be inerrant. If those portions are errant, they are not the Word of God)

If the church and the pastor don't already know what the man teaches and believes and hasn't seen a pattern in faithfulness before the ordination is scheduled ---- they shouldn't even be scheduling an ordination for him.

State of Arkansas is as narrow as I have for a location.

I may have crossed John and Jerry up, I've gotten them mixed up before. So, he may not be in AR.

I know a church that had a triple-wide mobile home as their first building. After 8 years they moved and sold that building to an HVAC company.
I was assistant pastor in a one church that bought the old Elks Lodge building and again in another one that bought an old Redneck bar. Our building where I pastor used to be the RLDS building.
I also know a church whose first building was a 40 y.o. barn and the parsonage was a single-wide mobile home.

I have a little Canon 25x Digital camera that I use. After I get pictures downloaded to the computer, I edit them a tad to try to enhance the colors...but that's all.
Okay, photo editing, I not just a dinosaur but an old-school dino. I was thinking in terms of darkroom techniques I used with my Canon AE-1 (which I sold - with all accessories) to a young lady who was starting in photography about 12 yrs ago. She had a digital SLR but wanted a mirrored (real - sorry, couldn't resist) one, too.

We were driving out in the woods one day and came upon these free range sheep...guided by a shepherd and sheep dogs.
Looking at the texture softening (like a painting vs a photo), did you use a little over exposure?

I've been hesitant to vote for several personal reasons. I cannot sing well, the only instrument I can play is the CD player (and I even have problems with that technology sometimes due to all of the options), and my time is limited in learning other subjects (my plate is full of other subjects I am learning.
Please indulge my story telling. It was around 2000 or 2001, another electrician and I were working on the new baseball stadium buildings and he had his CD player outside the building playing. He says, Hey Cliff, would you flip that CD over when this song ends? Reluctantly, I dropped what I was doing (after all, I was on the ground level devices and he was working on ceiling fixtures) and headed out there. Halfway there I hear him start to cackle, "Just messing with you man, they only have one side!" Hmmn, maybe I oughtta crawl out from under my rock more often.

Sorry...didn't mean to give the wrong impression. I'm glad it wasn't copper...I've never messed with it before.
Proper term, just my assumption.
Threaded galvanized can be a headache, too. I'd much rather mess with PVC.
-
When you said hard piped, I thought you meant copper pipe with sweated joints or galvanized rigid. PVC's definitely easier to modify. Yep, the flex will improve somebody's life in follow-up work.

Is the KJVO "movement" dying?
in Biblical Issues
Posted
Understand that I'm Southern born and Southern bred --- and when I die I'll be Southern dead!! BUT, far too many Southern IB preachers are cotton candy preachers -- all fluff, no substance. Southern folk (as a whole) like it that way, unfortunately. Most campmeetings will have messages that the other preachers can shout about. Am I against shouting? Not when it's real. Does shouting make the service more (or less) real? No. Is "putting on the dog" carnal? Yep! There used to be a good campmeeting in Boomer, N.C. but, alas, it is no more.
