  1. Most of the arguments made against trousers on women can be made about underwear on women too. People are speaking here about women in trousers being a recent development and that early trouser-wearers were considered rebellious in their day. The same could be said for bloomers and, later, knickers. In recent history until about the mid-1700s, neither sex really wore underwear that had cloth between the legs (bifurcated) and, because they wore dresses, women therefore didn't wear any clothes or underclothes that weren't skirt-like. Early forms of underwear on women that essentially put cloth between the legs (as knickers do today--you have to put your legs through two holes, just like trousers) were considered rebellious, as were trousers in later times.

Do Christian women today eschew underpants for the same reasons they do trousers? Given that modern knickers:

    1. Are practically the same thing as men's pants and therefore do not fulfil the criteria of being 'distinct' between the sexes.

    2. Are a form of bifurcated clothing, something that was the preserve of men until 250 years ago.

    3. Represent a type of underwear (bifurcated) that was once considered rebellious on women.

One point to make with regard to womens' rebellion and the feminist movement: when the women of the 1700s started the rebellion that led to modern dresses, let alone pants, they were campaigning against the restrictive type of clothes described in this snippet of an article:
    http://www.jstor.org/pss/2711370

Here is described an early feminist group that was campaigning for women to only have to wear 7lbs of underwear:
    http://www.fashion-era.com/rational_dress.htm

Women on this website who wear less than 7lbs of underwear, don't wear corsets and show their calves or ankles below their dresses should consider how rebellious they would look to people from even the early Victorian era.

Should add for clarity: trousers=pants, pants=men's underpants, knickers=women's underpants.

Wow. That was very informative and useful in regards to this subject. Thanks!
  2. These have to be my favorite Psalms.
    Psalm 51:
[bible]1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity,; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.[/bible]
    Such wonderful words...
And the first part of Psalm 119:
[bible]1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
12 Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.
13 With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
17 GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.
18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
19 I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.
20 My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.
21 Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.
22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.
23 Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.
24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors

The simple fact is, the Bible says He RESTED. What did He rest from? Creating. Has He created anything since He rested? The Bible creates it's own meaning for words. Cease and rest mean the same here. If you have some faith for once that the KJB is the ultimate, innerent authority then you would be willing to compare the scriptures and realize that. Not to sound rude, but my Saviour described these kind of people best.
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment , mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also." Matt. 23:23-26
For every one "mistake" in the AV there are atleast 2 in the MV's.[/quote]

Are you straining at my words? Why apply Matt 23:24 to me? There is always alot of straining going on.... I am looking for substance.

Sure God has created something since he rested....every heard of Calvary? Wasn't that a creation of God?

Cease and rested do not mean the same thing here. If you rested then I would say you are tired.

lets say you are correct.... which certainly your not... then why did the translators say rested in Hebrews 4:10?

I am not talking about the MV's. I am talking about the AV's... but at least you admit there are mistakes in the AV...[/quote]
Sir, don't lie. You aren't looking for answers. You are fully convinced of what you believe. You keep going back to the same argument. The fact is rested means ceased and ceased means rested. The Bible used these two verses to clarify that. I'm sorry that God's Word doesn't conform to your definitions of words. I used quotes on mistakes for a reason. I believe there are no mistakes, just tough verses, which can be solved with a short Bible study. On the other hand, no amount of Greek and Hebrew and long ridiculous discussion can clear up the massive contradictions in the MV's. Hmm...
There is a beam in someones eye....

  5. My personal testimony is when I got saved God's Holy Spirit constantly convicted me of the wrong of all such things involved with witchcraft. Every Christian that is in the Word of God should have the discernment to tell that magic and witchcraft are an abomination in any form. I was obsessed with Warcraft, Zelda, Harry Potter, all of that stuff. When I got saved I knew it was wrong. That stuff is fun, but is certainly isnt abstaining from all appearence of evil by being involved with that stuff. Who needs Narnia and LOTR and T.V. and video games when we have God and His Word anyway? Shouldn't we be fixed on heavenly things rather things of Earth?

?Australian PM Kevin Rudd - ?Nuke strike would make 9/11 insignificant? and other weird warnings?

?Over the last 72 hours there has been a strange melange of cryptic messages leaked from world political leaders about what could be in store for America over the next few months.

These predictions of impending doom come from England, France, Australia and the United States.

Biden told the top Democratic donors that a ?generated crisis? will develop within six months and Barak Obama will need the help of community leaders to control the population as unpopular decisions are made and Americans resist.

Biden speaking at the fundraiser, ?I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate, And he?s gonna need help. And the kind of help he?s gonna need is, he?s gonna need you - not financially to help him - we?re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it?s not gonna be apparent initially, it?s not gonna be apparent that we?re right.?

Biden?s ominous language at the Seattle Sheraton are followed with statements by long time establishment insiders Colin Powell and Madeline Albright both say there is a massive crisis on the horizon and Biden was simply making a ?statement in fact.?

?The problems will always be there and there?s going to be a crisis which will come along on the 21st, 22nd of January that we don?t even know about right now.? Powell told Meet the Press.

Lord West, adviser to Prime Minister Gordon Brown on national security says, ?There is another great plot building up again and we are monitoring. It dipped slightly and is now rising again within the context of severe. The threat is huge. We have done all the things that we need to do, but the threat is building - the complex plots are building,?

Across the channel from England you have the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner warning the press that he believes Israel will strike Iran before they can develope nuclear weapons completley ignoring the fact that the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammed ElBradei, said that Iran lacks the key components to produce an atomic weapon.

?The devastation that could be wreaked by one major nuclear weapons incident alone puts 9/11 and almost everything else [in] to the category of the insignificant,? Rudd said.

Why are there so many high level politicians around the world in a seemingly coordinated effort warning of huge threats and developing crisis? that may include a nuclear device? Are they preparing the masses for an event or series of events that have been in the making for some time? Is the public being prepared for new and forming enemies with a potential to plunge the entire world into war??

What do you think is going on?

  7. The Catholic church was existant in a way before Constantine. The doctrines of Nicolaitaneism (Clergy and Laity divide) and Balaamism (worldlyness) had seeped into the early church. (Rev. 2-3)

The church started in earnest under Constantine though. There is LOTS of information about the church on

A lot of people don't like Mr. Chick, but he backs his claims so take it or leave it.

  8. I am sad that passed. I think there are very good reasons to give gay people the right ot marry or enter into civil unions, even if you disagree with the morality of it.

Though I think this may be challened under the US constitution now. What happens to all of the marriages performed for gay couples before this passed? Intersting legal issues there. The only winners for this are the lawyers. Perhaps I should move to California to practice law!

I sometimes wonder if you look at what all the other members are posting and post the opposing view just for fun. Homosexuality is an ABOMINATION and there are NO reasons they should be aloud to enter into their "civil unions".

  9. Please tell your pastor that God's real name is Howard (or is it Andy?).

You know how we are taught to pray ....

Our Father, who art in Heaven, Howard be thy name ....

Or that wonderful old gospel song ...

Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me, Andy tells me I am his own ....

    :cool

  10. In another thread, a poster asked this question above. What is the answer to it?

Oh, and also, as to the 80 books, that would be because the Apocryphia was wedged in between the testaments in the 1611 version. It was put there with the understanding it was NOT part of the inspired writings and was for historical study. It was taken out in later versions for whatever reason.
