  1. Could you give specific examples, please? I'm not challenging you on this, because I couldn't say one way or another. John R. Rice was a bible corrector, but I wouldn't say he was "laden with error." What about Schaap's teachings are so consistently erroneous?
I'd be glad to reply but a. I must sleep, I work tonight and B. re read the OP. If you'd like start a new topic and we'll traverse that rocky path.

  2. Irishman, Daniel I say this in the most loving manner I can muster. I pray you will forgive me.

The bible makes it clear we must study (1st Tim. 2.15).

These definitions are an egregious misuse of the scripture. Repentance takes on many meanings depending on the context in which it is written. For salvation repentance is, yes, a change in mind but also an amendment in behaviour. Look and see if I am infact wrong.

Metanoeo, (3340 strong's/vines) is a change of mind that leads to an amendment in behavior. This word always points to a change for the better in the NT (except in Luke 17.3-4) and always of repentance from sin.

To say that repentance means one thing alone is a grave error.

More on the topic. Jack Schaap, is a man leaden with error. One preacher even stated that he confronted Schaap and asked him (my paraphrase) would you change if I could prove you wrong and Schaap said that he would not. For the record I have been to FBC hammond, HAC and even met Br. Schaap. He is a nice guy, pompous a bit, but in serious error and un-willing to change.

I am sorry LuAnne, I had to comment on the blatant and egregious misuse of scripture.

  3. Maybe I am being contentious, if you believe I am please forgive me. Matter of fact I know this will offend some.

But, according to the Word of God repentance is not a tertiary issue. To be sure there are no secondary or tertiary issues/doctrines in the Bible. But, repentance is essential to salvation (Luke 13 Acts 20.21). For Shelton to omit something this critical, this OBvious warrants concern. Did I subscribe to the sword ? Sure. Did I receive something from the publication ? Sure. Would I subscribe again ? No.

Shelton should search the scriptures (2nd Tim. 2.15) study it out and repent publicly.

This should give us pause and finally push some of us into action.

Finally, no I do not follow Cloud lock and step. There are points I take issue with him on that I need to study out. I give him credit for blowing the whistle on this and more importantly give all the the glory to God for He all alone deserves all the pre-eminence.

  6. Guns up Jerry #s. I am proud of him.

My prayers are with him. The Lord has a way of watching over His own, but his judgment in joining the Marines is questionable! (Go ARMY!)

Praise the Lord for men like your grandson.

    Irishman, sorry bro.

ARMY is short for either Aint Ready (to be a) Marine Yet or Aint Ready (to be a man) Yet, YMMV.

I was in the Corps from 94 to 98. 1st Mar Div Fox Co 2nd Batallion 4th Marines (MOS) 0331 Camp Pendleton, CA.

  7. *shrug* None of the above.

I believe the Textus Receptus is the inerrant inspired Word of God and that the KJV is the inerrant and inspired through preservation Word of God for English Speaking People.

If I spoke Greek, then the TR would be my copy of the Word of God. Since I speak English, I use the KJV.

Just because words are changed in translation does not mean it has errors...even the NT translates things differently from the OT because of the differences between Hebrew and Greek.

God says its inerrant and that He will preserve His Word through all generations and the history behind the KJV tells us that it is that preserved Word of God. However, it doesn't make the TR any less the Word of God.
    Ditto..........
  8. That's odd me and the missus were discussing this today. To be fair she has also been reading an auto biography of George Mueller.

I stated that I believed we already live a pretty "Spartan" lifestyle. I still maintain my hunting/fishing stuff and my library and Bibles. But, other than that there ain't much too it.

I am not so sure that un believers would or wouldn't. I do have a 401K. But, we try to give above and beyond the gross. We help others when the opportunity presents itself.

But, living by faith? I am not sure, I'd like to say by instinct "yes, sure". But, I am not sure my decisions necessarily reflect that response sometimes although.

    Wow, what a question......

  9. Ha, you and computers do not always get along. :bleh: I would try running a few scans on your computer other than antivirus. I would run a good spybot cleaner and clean the registry out.

    Registry Cleaner
    Advanced Windows Care
    Spybot

I run Advanced Windows Care and Eusing reg cleaner on a regular basis on Vista and I never have a prOBlem.
There are plenty of others that you can use, those are just the ones that came to my mind first.

As far as Chrome goes, it is as stable as you can get. Which version of Chrome are you running? If you are running a Dev. branch then it may be unstable. As of right now the stable version is 5.0.375.55.

Also, if you want to try something other than AVG you can give Avast a try.

    Possible TLDR :))

Never clean the registry. Bad, bad, bad things can potentially happen.

Were I at the helm. Again, this is IM (very) HO.

I would back up all my critical files to an external HDD or hosting site. I would do a complete re install of Windows get all the current updates from Windows, all the current drivers applying to your video card and other hard/software.

Go online and google firewall/antivirus software suites and see whose leading the pack for 2009/10. I found Norton really took the lead. Are there prOBlems with Norton sure they're recorded throughout the annals of the web. But, they've made significant improvements. Again, JM 0.02.

Then, I wouldn't use any other spyware anti virus suite than the one currently installed. I also would take Jerry's advice and install CCleaner and run it at least once a week. But, not to make any adjustments to the registry :P.

Check out Lifehacker for a lot of very sound computer related advice. Just as important install firefox and the add ons No Script and Flashblock. If you go to a potentially harmful website it will warn you (I believe Chrome does the same as well).

Lastly, if I were you Kita I'd burn an Ubuntu ISO image to disc (totally easy I promise). Boot your comp from the disc and have it check your memory. The memory may be going bad. Ubuntu.

All the above JM 0.02. I' ve mad many errors myself and have had to learn the hard way just what works and doesn't. I did many of the same things y'all did to get the comp running a little better and yes faster.

  10. In the church we did attend this was all too common.

The pastor preached with great zeal, but the messages were a "reach" more often than not. He'd use 1 Greek word for love (when there were many) 1 Greek word for Repentance (when there were many in both Hebrew and Greek).

The verse by verse teaching (only on Wednesdays) would start with him explaining the text and then the message would denigrate to him getting off on some tangent that prOBably didn't really relate to the text.

To our shame many so called bible colleges are doing away with teaching bible Greek and Hebrew.

If we are to preach expository messages we must understand the context and syntax as well. I could be wrong.

Lastly, I was talking with a good friend last night. We were talking about a very popular preacher that preaches a lot of revivals here and on the east coast. He said when he (that preacher) isn't telling so many stories he's pretty good. Pretty telling huh?

  11. Kevin Bauder, Sharper Iron Kevin Bauder is dangerous.

It has become very evident that he doesn't condone separation resorts to using slander to attack those who do and is looking to yoke up with other new evangelicals and Calvinist. I use the term evident because I have read enough of his articles and read how he regards his "enemies". Go to SI and see for yourself. I would use discernment though.

For whatever un usual reason Calvinism is the new "Item Du Jour" among "Young Fundamentalist".

I do to one extent or another agree that fundamentalism is almost a poor choice of terms. In one respect it suggests a denomination. To yet another it would suggest quick prayerism, Ruckmanites and Hyles. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, I am and remain IFB.

Till the IFB's separate from the truth of scripture and refuse to admonish those in error within their own camp wholesale (ie. Sword Of The Lord). I do remain IFB.

  12. It gives you three, but night comes first, as it did in the O.T.
6PM to 6 AM 1st night (Thurs. night)
6 Am To 6 PM 1st day (Friday)
    Friday night 2nd night;
    Sat morning 2nd day;
    Sat night 3rd night
    Sun. morning 3rd day (early)

Christ arose the 1st day (Sunday), but it did not have to be a full day.

Jesus had to be in the tomb before 6 o'clock on Thurs, and that may have counted for the first day too.

Your reasoning would have Jesus raising on the 4th day.
    I said Wednesday.

To believe in a verbally inspired Bible it would have to be three literal 24 hour days.

Jesus was placed on the cross at 9 Am our time and removed at 4 Pm our time. Placed in the tomb before sunset (before the beginning of the "high" sabbath. A sabbath that came on Thursday that week.

At about sunset on Thursday he had been in the grave one day and one night. At about sunset on Friday he had been in the grave 2 days and 2 nights. Then, just after the three full days and three full nights, He arose. He arose as it began to dawn the first day of the week (just after Saturday, our time). The women came early Sunday Am, our time ,but He was already gone. The expression on the third day in the Gospels (referring to His resurrection) would be the same as saying after the third day to us.

    Wednesday.

  13. I've heard of "Rich" Warren but, only with respect to the prayer at the OBama inauguration and
googling hearing of "The Purpose Driven Church" and the social gospel he dispenses. I've never
heard of John Piper or possibly his past blips went undetected on my radar.

One of them is a Calvinist...limited atonement. I'm not giving them much more thought than I've
given either of them before. Basically none.
Rick Warren is part of the new evangelical set. His teachings are dangerous and heretical. He has authored the Purpose Driven Church and The Purpose Driven Life. Both of which are harmful and yet fitting to todays blend of Christianity. The books and his teachings endorse a me first theology combined with a very weak repentance-less gospel.

Rick Warren is also something of a chameleon. To the Jews he teaches a Jesus less scripture, to the reformed sect - a Solas Scriptura scripture and on and on.

John Piper is the pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He is a reformed Baptist and I believe a 7 point Calvinist. Any man who wholesale endorses a man and his false set of teachings (Piper and J. Calvin) versus what Scripture has made plain, is dangerous as well.

I will admit I was a little bit surprised at first that the 2 would appear in the same place together. But, Warren's theology is taking root in churches all over America. I thought Piper ,while a Calvinist, would have more discernment. But, I have been wrong before.

  16. Whatever makes it easier for you Bro Matt. I appreciate all the time and effort you and the other mods put into this site.

I think if you want to expand, that it would be cool...I don't think its urgent, but I voted yes because everything is changing on the web and it will keep things alive to change with it. The social networking is a good idea. Baptists are getting fewer and fewer and it will be nice to have sort of a "one stop shop" for Baptists. Let me know what I can do to help, if anything.
I'd be happy to help if necessary.
