  1. But not all IFB hold to that particular definition. For example, I’m not against a particular IFB church creating its own mission agency, to provide logistical support to missionaries that may then be supported by a variety of churches who have each individually decided to support that missionary. Like Canamera Missions out of Pembina Valley Baptist Church in Winkler, MB. I could see someone describing that as a mission group. ??‍♀️
And it sounds like there is a local church involved here that doesn’t know how to move forward on its own - exactly the situation in which help from a more experienced sending church is desirable.
In any case, we understood the request even while potentially disagreeing with the mechanics. So the terminology debate is moot.  ?

  2. Having learned during Covid to not believe a word the media says, I am extremely distrustful of this whole 'Russia is evil! Ukraine is innocent!' narrative. I extremely doubt the whole thing is a black and white as the media would like us to believe. (And honestly, we Westerners should mind our own business and stay out of other nation's affairs. Russia & Ukraine have been fighting over land for about as long as they both have existed. Which is significantly longer than either the US or Canada.)

  3. I think that is wise advice for relationships in the home. When it comes to a bear attack, I think it's quite right for adults to protect the children first. Other adults are presumably capable of removing themselves from teh situation (and frankly, no mother I know would leave without ensuring her child was safe anyways, so the dad could fight her to move her, or move the child and she'll come along. ?

  4. I don’t think the American founders wanted a ‘distinct separation between church and state’ so much as they wanted the state to stay out of their religious choices and to not have to pay tithes to a state church. And even that had to be fought for by the Baptists; other church groups in early America were fine with a state church (as long as it was theirs).

If your friends come through the southern border then no vaccine required. In fact we'll give them food, cell phone and bus them to other cites all for free.

We did suggest that to one of our friends when he wanted to go back down for college. ?

I found it weird here when  the covid rules were relaxed,  I think the government was still inforcing some things in dumb ways.

During covid mandates.. at my work in the public hospital supply department.. a big warehouse.. the warehouse staff couldn’t go to have lunch in the other cafeteria with the office staff.

Then covid rules were relaxed.. but we still weren't allowed to have lunch with the office staff in their cafeteria.

    That was strange.

Bet they just decided they didn’t want the warehouse staff in the office cafeteria and used Covid as an excuse.

@Salyan Do Canadian churches do anything special on Canada Day?

It’s not uncommon. My church will sing O Canada on the service close to Canada Day, and if it’s not on Sunday, will often do a church picnic or ball game.

That being said, the evangelical churches I grew up in were somewhat less likely to do special stuff for Canada Day. Not sure if that’s because their people were more likely to join community events, or because the IFB churches have had a lot of American missionaries planting them. ?

Was it an American flag that they had in a Canadian Church? If so, that is a little too much for me.

I’d probably take it down myself! ? No, they use Canadian flags. It’s just a weirdly over-patriotic move that only Americans do. Canadians never did much flag-waving until last February (at which point it became a symbol of resistance and sone people got tickets for them). ?

TGL, you post that it can be done...and your "header" for this thread leads us to believe you're going to tell us how....are you? ???

Easy on there. Engage with the topic, not the posting style.

This is not impossible, but not easy to do. For they know to much, and they are smarter than you and me.

"Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit." Prov. 26:4-5
Solomon wasn't terribly clear on how to do it either.  ?

  9. They were house mailboxes, which only receive newspapers and flyers, so not Canada Post mailboxes. No federal law issues.

We had a lady come to our church once who was saved out of the JWs. I remember door knocking with her and it was interesting - people would be polite but obviously disinterested (as is usual up here), but if they spoke to us for longer than one sentence she would be like 'we need to come back, they're interested.' They totally weren't.  Wonder if that was the training talking. (she was a little socially disconnected all around, so could have been that too.)

  10. I think you missed an opportunity to engage and provide her with the true gospel. I might take the literature if she'll trade and take mine... it'd go straight in the bin anyways and is one less piece for them to give to someone else.

Went door knocking once... must have been right after the cults canvassed that neighborhood. I may or may not have started taking their tracts out of the mailboxes and replacing with John & Romans... ?

I will not answer to either of you this question, for it comes from an evil heart.

That is unnecessary and rude. Cut it out.

Your accusations against people here really need to stop. Please, now that you've made the accusation that I have an evil heart, and the other poster who asked has one, give proof, or retract it publicly.

Let's return this conversation back to two posts ago and move on from there.

  12. While we're resurrecting old topics, I am flabbergasted to read the article above comparing canoe usage to so-called colonialism. The indigenous peoples of Canada literally invented the Canadian canoe (as the Brits call it), and did so without any help at all from (and, indeed, pre-dating) colonists. Guess one shouldn't practice bow hunting, or indeed any hunting, fishing or gardening of non-European species cause the indigenous folks did that first too.... :4_13_13:
