Hello again! That is great to hear! It is always good to hear of folks getting good doctrine. 🙂   I have some good friends over at Capital City (Smed...).
Hey, tell your folks there that Victory Baptist in Sherwood Park is having revival meetings this week. They should come over and join us!

  3. I could use some guidance. While I agree with many, many wonderful convictions of the "IFB" church. I am struggling with a lot of practices in the church, and really don't know If I "fit in" with anyone. Which on some levels is a bit depressing. Im annoyed with hobby horse preaching (Just preach the text please!). There is no doubt there are way too many scandals that are recorded in the IFB. Im tired of everytime I say I go to an IFB church and I believe in preservation, the first thought someone comes to is a youtube video of some preacher saying Homosexuals will never be able to repent.... You can't say IFB without someone equivocating that anymore into something completely opposite of how a redeemed people should be treating a fallen world. Just struggling with this whole denomination. However, to where do I go? SBC? While decent I don't believe in an overarching body. Plus as a KJV guy Ill be mocked at the door. "Evangelical"? well im not reformed. Weslyan? well I believe God keeps His children safe....

    Frustrating.

Come on up to Canada - up here, no one knows what you mean when you say IFB - therefore, there are no previous misconceptions. :D

Seriously, though, each church is different. I've no doubt there are 'hobby horse' preachers - but there are also an awful lot of simple expository preachers (I could name you a dozen in this area off the top of my hat - and we've got about 1 church every 2 hours!). Keep looking.

Not that I want to encourage you to go Evangelical, but just to set the record straight, not all Evangelical churches are Reformed (I actually don't know any that are?). The problems with those churches are that they gave up on standing firm on good doctrine long ago, and now they are quite wishy-washy - they don't know how and when to stand.

  4. I told our members that I would work at getting the board emoticons back. I was wondering if you may have the original ones saved?

I looked all over the net for suitable religious emoticons, but didn't find any suitable.

The original ones we just right for the board, it would be great to have them back, is possible.

  5. I Timothy 3 states that one of the qualifications of a, "bishop," is to be," the husband of one wife." In 2016, does that relate sole to the pastor of a local church or does that apply to those on the pastoral staff such as, "youth pastors/ directors?"

Second question I would have, as Baptists , what does the Bible have to say on the process of finding a wife. What would you say to a marriage minded young man who believes he's called to ministry on this topic of finding a wife. I also would ask because, as someone who is a first generation Christian, this is not something I have really been able to gain solid Biblical counsel on, so few are willing to touch it as its controversial, dating/ courtship, etc.If you were a youth pastor, college/ singles ministry director working with someone who didn't exactly come up in the Christian school/ Bible college/ Baptist church to pursue what I have heard preached many times as, "the second greatest blessing after salvation?"

I ask this because, in the evangelical world, such as boundless.org (Focus on the Family) and other sites, men are being shamed for not dating, etc extended adulthood, I believe Cary Schmidt wrote a book on this topic of extended adolescence. And with the trends of co-habitating, homosexual "marriage," fornication, divorce, single parenthood on the rise, etc. Census showed a while back that singles are now a majority of this country, how can we as the church, not only defend the institution of marriage, the family, and the home for those who already have it, but help young people who desire those things to get ready for those thing and provide them opportunities to meet, mingle, and serve and serve others with one another?

Not trying to cause controversy, but these are things that, as a young man having a burden to work with young people, how could I be a help to them in this area, and also some practical principles in godly communication, etc. that would benefit my own life as well. I appreciate all the wisdom I've found on this site, that's why I've been asking these complex questions like I have. Thank you brothers and sisters.

Personally, I believe the 'husband of one wife' thing is a directive, not a prerequisite. As in, the pastor must not be a polygamist or remarried while a first wife still lives.

I know some that believe it is a prerequisite - that a pastor must be married to be eligible to pastor. However, I don't see them applying that consistently. They don't require a pastor to stop pastoring when his wife dies. They don't require a pastor to have more than one child ("having children[plural] in submission"), or to even have children at all.

I do agree that it is a very good idea for a pastor to be married, for multiple reasons. It would probably be a great help for a youth pastor to be too (and, really, a 'youth pastor' is a pastor, period. There really are not a lot of extra offices given between 'bishop' and 'deacon'). But I don't believe it to be a requirement - and I don't think those who say they do really believe it either - or they would be more consistent. :twocents:

That's fine. Due warning, this is not a Reformed site. We allow some discussion, but if the moderators feel that Reformed doctrine is being 'pushed', we will ask you to stop discussing it. It's usually a good idea to listen to the mods. :-D

That being said, you are welcome here! Poke around and make yourself at home.

It wasn't really a meaty post - just a difference of opinion on processes.
Do you think sharpening ever breaks a blade? IMO, I would think that hacking a blade over a rock breaks it, not the sharpening process. ;)
