First, did you notice that Paul the Apostle, never had a church home?  He only planted them and went back to water them.

I rarely post here now, but someone who makes out that he knows everything but makes such a basic, simple mistake, warrants a post. A Single Post.

    Act 11:25-26
    (25)  Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
    (26)  And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Saul was a the church at Antioch for a full year.

From there they went to the church at Jerusalem.

    Then they returned from Jerusalem

    Act 12:25
    (25)  And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

    They returned... to Antioch.

Where Saul (Paul) was in the church at Antioch and named as one of the preachers.

    Act 13:1
    (1)  Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Then Barnabas and Saul were sent out from...... Antioch.
    Act 13:2-3
    (2)  As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
    (3)  And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

So Barnabas and Saul went out and started a whole bunch of churches, and eventually returned to..... Antioch.

    Act 14:26-28
    (26)  And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.
    (27)  And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
    (28)  And there they abode long time with the disciples.

After a time - actually a "long time" at Antioch, they had reason to go to the church at Jerusalem:

    Act 15:2-3
    (2)  When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
    (3)  And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
And they were "brought on their way by the church" - would this be the church at Antioch that sent them to Jerusalem to figure out the doctrinal issues that had come to their attention? The church that Barnabas and Saul were a part of apparently?

After all had a good chat, the church at Jerusalem sent Barnabas and Saul - and a few new mates - back to..... Antioch! of all places....

Then, after they had been back at the church in Antioch for a while, Barnabas and Paul decided to head out and see how the churches they started before were going.

    Act 15:35-40
    (35)  Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
    (36)  And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
    (37)  And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
    (38)  But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
    (39)  And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
    (40)  And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

Now of course, Barnabas and Saul had a disagreement, and decided to make two separate journeys, and this time Silas went with Paul - and note that they were recommended by the Brethren - which brethren are we speaking about specifically? I think that would be the brethren at the church of ANTIOCH.

Even after this, Paul dropped back in to Antioch:

    Act 18:22
    (22)  And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

The point of this is, that for someone to say that Paul had no "home church" shows either an extraordinary ignorance of the book of Acts, or a wilful misrepresentation of the fact for their own purposes.

Of course Paul had a home church - the Church at Antioch is where he served on several occasions, it is the church from which his missionary journeys were based, and it was the church that he returned to at the end of his various missions.

To get something so obviously basic incorrect gives reason to doubt his general information.

Aside from the fact that he has misquoted verses, indicating that they are KJV when they are clearly not - this is deliberate deceit, and it shows that he knows he is required to use KJV but REFUSES to do so, showing a disrespect for both the Word of God and for this board.

And there will be no reply - I will not fuss with an argument on this board (and will likely not even check back for a week or so at best anyway. Say what you will about me - I don't care.)

  2. Thank you to Linda for providing the information along the way - to think of others at a time such as this is a testimony to your love and care.

Thanks also to Happy and the forum for allowing a place for this.

A man such as this who was always an encouragement in the Lord to those who knew him, and in my case (and many others here) I knew him only online, both here and via email, but the friendship was nonetheless real.

His voice on this forum will be greatly missed, and his contact with me will be missed greatly also.

    Regards,

    David

  3. 1Co 2:4-5
    (4)  And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
    (5)  That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

    Heb 4:12
    (12)  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

  4. This is a wrong statement, but it shows again the attitude of this man.

"Do We Also Have Bible-Based Doctrines That Are Wrong? Is There a Case for Women as Pastors?"

To even ask this question shows that this man has no regard for biblical truth. If a doctrine is Bible-Based, then it is not wrong. If it is wrong, then it is not Bible-Based.

The things that he references in his original post that he says were wrong, were...... not biblically based, but corrupted. Or he has taken them out of context.

A simple reading of the relevant Scriptures makes it plain that there is no biblical case for women pastors.

  5. Do not ask me questions about this post, because I am simply quoting from an article I have. I do not agree with this personally. I do know the person who wrote the article, but I do not feel I have the right to name him, so do not ask.

I will not explain any point of it further because it is not my article, I did not write it, I do not agree with it, and I should not therefore explain it.

I provide it simply because it seems to me that it at least in part provides some answer to your question.

If you want any clarification on any part of it, I am both unable and unwilling to give such.

    Quote

But what about the sign of the prophet Jonas (Jonah)?!

Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of  man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

True, this is the oft quoted verse to support a Wednesday (or Thursday) crucifixion, and it does seem pretty cut-and-dried, as they say.  But it’s worth noting, that the people to whom Jesus gave the sign of Jonas understood that he meant that he would rise again ON the third day.

Mat 12:38-40 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we  would see a sign from thee. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Mat 27:63-64  Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After  three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

For a slightly more detailed reason, keep reading:

The real question is did Jesus literally rise ON the third day or was he literally buried for three days and three nights?  Both cannot be true.  If Jesus was buried for a literal three day and three nights, then he would have risen after the completion of three nights, which would mean he rose ON the fourth day.

Either the first day of the week was literally the third day or he was literally in the grave for three days and three nights, both cannot be literal.  One must be literal and one must be figurative.

It is easier to explain the sign of Jonas as being figurative than the other option.  The sign of Jonas, used by Jesus, was a synecdoche.  Simply put a synecdoche is when a part represents a whole (or vice-versa).  In other words, “three days and three nights” is a figure of speech that represents 3 days.  It must be noted that the Jews had a figure of speech which always had the same number of days and nights.  For instance:

Moses fasted forty days and forty nights (Exodus 24.18).

Jonah was in the fish three days and three nights (Jonah 1.17).

Job's friends sat with him seven days and seven nights (Job 2.13).

An example of this is found in the Book of Esther where the queen said that no one was to eat or drink for three days, night or day, but on the third day, when only two nights had passed, she went into the king's chamber and the fast was ended.

Est 4:15-16 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the  Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Est 5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in  the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal  throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

It is difficult to hold to a literal interpretation of Matthew 12:40 when you consider the mountain of Bible evidence which seemingly contradict this one verse.  Now, do we hold to our traditional view of Matthew

12:40 and “wrest” all the other verses which also seem plain, or do we change our traditional interpretation of Matthew 12:40 so that a multitude of verses remain harmonized?   I for one choose the multitude of clear verses over the one seemingly clear verse.

I also do not know why he chose to use red to highlight portions. This potentially causes confusion, as most of us are used to "red letter" Bibles, where the red indicates the words of Christ. It is not important, but it is confusing to those who are used to red letter Bibles.

You're absolutely right Brother Jerry.  I am at times a hypocrite and other times fall and immediately catch myself and repent.

    You are not alone brother....

    Rom 7:22-25
    (22)  For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
    (23)  But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
    (24)  O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
    (25)  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

  7. I rarely post here, but this brings me to my favourite Calvinist question - surely you have an answer for me.

Can you show me a clearly stated testimony of salvation for Calvin please?

And whilst you are at it, you might give your own testimony of salvation.

I will not answer, for I have no interest in any sort of debate, but would dearly love for SOME Calvinist to give me a clear record of Calvin's salvation testimony. Preferably something in his own words, and not what others have said of him.

This should be an easy question to answer, and it requires no further clarity so there is no need for you to ask me all sorts of questions (which I will not answer anyway).

If you refuse to give such a reference, I will have to assume it is because you either do not understand salvation yourself, or you cannot find such a testimony for Calvin.

No one has yet provided any such thing to me, in spite of asking this question of Calvinists for the last 15 years.

  8. My Hannah-Rose is back home safe and sound.

The Lord worked everything in such a way that there was a small window of opportunity where everything worked together to get her back home by Christmas Eve, so she was able to spend Christmas with her family.

After a full few days of visiting people, and a busy Sunday at church with everyone wanting to talk about everything PNG, she is now under my orders to sit at home and rest.

She is now intending on getting a nursing job here at home and doing some more nursing study while she waits for the Lord to open another opportunity for her to serve in a similar ministry.

    Thanks for your prayers.

  9. We have managed to get a flight for her to Brisbane, which is in the State of Queensland. And it is a direct flight, so 3 hours and no stops. Blessings.

There she will have to stay in "Hotel Quarantine" for two weeks, before boarding a flight home to Perth (the other side of Australia, in Western Australia). Actually a longer flight than from PNG, around 5 1/2 hours. Yes it is THAT far. It is basically like a flight from New York to San Francisco: top right to bottom left of the nation.

The current rules might make it difficult for her to get into WA, and even if we can get her back home, she will then (most likely) have to be in home isolation for another two weeks.

We have the funds to pay for all of this as the Lord has provided bountifully.

The clinic is actually closing officially tomorrow, and then she has to fly from the Highlands to Port Moresby, if the weather permits, on Itty Bitty Airlines (not its real name...). The intervening time between now and the 3rd Dec will be spent packing and rolling everything up. Flight to Aus is the 10th.

The Lord is providing in all sorts of ways.

Sad to see that ministry closing, but happy to be seeing our oldest little girl again soon.

Please keep the local IB church and Pastor (Pastor Ben)in prayer up there, and be praying for the missionary family who will continue their support work up there, and the schooling ministry that will also continue there.

    Thanks folks,

    Dave.

  10. A final update for the folk here who care.

For all sorts of reasons the Clinic is having to close down. Covid and the PNG government are making it almost impossible to get staff. Hannah-Rose has been running the clinic on site for these past months, with the Missionaries keeping track of the official side of things, but without more staff to help at the clinic, and with the government causing difficulties the decision has been made to close the clinic. They are all devastated, but accepting that the Lord is moving them on.

Please pray that we can get Hannah-Rose flights back to Australia, and then back home to Perth. It is difficult getting into Australia at the moment. What should be a 3 hour flight looks to be a multi stop flight taking 42 hours....

That is if we can get her a seat.

Please pray also for her future leading to other ministry opportunities.

    Thanks folks.

    Dave

  11. Or dealing with people.....

I need no advice, no rebuke, no encouragement - the purpose is to give you a laugh, because that's about all that can be done.

I have been preaching verse by verse through a book for adult Sunday School.

Someone said to me that they don't come to Sunday School because they don't like that style of preaching.

Morning service I am preaching through a list of questions that people put on a list for that purpose.

Someone said to me that there has been some discussion and 'a few people' have mentioned that they are getting more out of the SS series than out of the "snippets"( their word) I am doing for the morning service, and that I should swap them.

And apparently I am preaching too much about salvation. Yep, you read that right. Last few week's messages have had a mention of salvation, but as a portion, not the focus.

You can please some of the people some of the time....... but you can't slap any of them anytime. ?

  12. Long story short - the PNG government has changed the visa requirements for those at the clinic, and it has caused some problems. As a result it is difficult for new staff to get in, and some have had to leave.

This all means that Hannah-Rose is now basically running the clinic.

She is doing fine in most respects, misses her family and home church, but loves the work, the church there in Kotidanga, and loves the people she is working with and for.
