  1. I understand what you mean, but because you can't know 100% of the time, there is a danger of misjudging someone, and that is why God can only know 100% of the time where a man's heart is. If we say we can judge a person's motives for sure it is almost as if we are trying to take God's place......not a good position to be in. I do say to my kids sometimes, "...you should never do __________because it would make it appear as if your intentions might be __________, and you wouldn't want someone to think that you are like that. (because there ARE people out there who judge people's motives by their actions, and sometimes quite harshly and without forgiveness) I tell my children, we just need to be careful, call wrongdoing wrong when you see it, but be careful about attacking the person.

EXACTLY. There are some who "judge" people's actions and compare them to their own. This is unwise.

    Same as judging motives.

there is a balance. No, I can't see people's hearts. However, you can know someone's reputation and seeing actions being manifested because of their motives. It is easy to spot.

  2. Ever been in a situation where your actions, words, and attitudes were mis-judged by someone else? I have. It doesn't always = motives. Sometimes things come out wrong from our mouths, or someone reads something in our body language that truly wasn't there. It happens all the time--just ask any married couple who have ever had a disagreement! :lol

true, I was hoping the understanding was that this was said "generally speaking" :hide
  3. What I meant was that God gave them supernatural revelation in certain instances that He is not or will not give us. We do not and cannot know someone's heart - we can only judge their fruit - ie. actions' date=' words, attitudes.[/quote']

    actions, words, attitudes =MOTIVES :frog
  4. If you are referring to Simon the Sorceror' date=' that was Peter that dealt with him - through the Holy Spirit. We are not apostles.[/quote']

    yeah...it was Peter.....thank you....

Nope. we are not the apostles. Do we also limit Matt 28:18-20, Acts 1:8 etc?

Do we also exclude "take up thy cross and follow me"?

I mean, we aren't the apostles.....

    :hide

  5. I didn't say you couldn't figure out that someone has bad motives at times - however, we do not know their heart, and for the most part we really don't KNOW their motives - we can only guess at then, and many times we will be wrong.

But regardless of yours or my opinion, God's Word forbids of from judging their motives.

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Unfortunately this is the only verse I can think of right now. When I get home, I will see if I can find more verses on this theme - or perhaps others might have some too.

There are many verses that teach that God is the only one that knows our hearts.

What is Righteous Judgment? I believe it was Paul who "judged" the motive of that guy who wanted to buy the power of the Holy Spirit.....

  6. :puzzled: Where do you get that? We are forbidden from judging motives - we are taught to be discerning (which means to mentally make a difference between things - whether judging behaviour, doctrine, etc.).

You don't think that we should be able to discern someone's motives?

Jerry, you are the best, most smartest, most profound, good looking, humorous user on this forum......

you KNOW when you hear a kid saying something like that....that there is a MOTIVE to why they said it......

  10. Good day folks!

One of my favorite structures is a lighthouse. It brings hope to those in Darkness, and sometimes even annoys those who want to stay hidden. Of course, the light is the important part. Without the Light, there is NO use of a lighthouse.

My aim and goal in here is to be a good lighthouse....and....well...to be light-hearted. :thumb

BTW, it is all Will's fault...he is the one who invited me on this thing :peek:
