Wow, you’re just a baby. I am so much older and wiser than you, it seems.
    I am 53. I feel so old!

Hey, my friend, there's no need to use that kind of language. Remember, this is a Christian, family-friendly forum, and we don't allow cursing here.
That may be true, then your vocabulary should be reflective of your age. ?‍♂️
I'm not sure if you're having a bad day or not, but I wasn't complaining. I was simply pointing out that there's no need to resort to name-calling when expressing disagreement. There's a clear distinction between passing judgment and evaluating doctrine through the Word of God. We'd appreciate a dialogue with you without encountering insults, profanity, or derogatory terms.

That's a quote from the Book of Jude.
Three groups of sinners from the Old Testament are mentioned in the Book of Jude:
    1. The angels which "kept not their first estate" had rebelled against God and were cast out because they "despised dominion"
    2. The Israelites during the 40 years in the wilderness murmured and complained against Moses so they are the ones who "spoke evil of dignities".
    3. The Sodomites were perverts so they are the ones which "went after strange flesh". People get this wrong by trying to say that it was the angels who went after strange flesh while completely ignoring the fact that this was the sin of the Sodomites.

Even named persons, which none of us really know, are  publicly "consigned to the ignominy of both ignorance and unreasonableness" on this board from time to time. But this particular individual shall remain nameless. As a young Christian, this was the subject which prompted me to study the Bible  in more depth than I ever had before and it was one phrase which made me question the "fallen angel" interpretation when I first heard it; something that just didn't sound right: The pastor used the phrase "cohabited with women". When you have to change/alter what the Bible says about something to make your point, well, that's just changing the word of God. Because the King James Bible says they took "wives. Tell me please why fallen angels who had rebelled against God, dooming themselves to be a 'devils" or "demons" would take women as a "wives"? And why would a preacher call it "cohabited"? Anyway, this one thing made me question everything I hear men say from pulpits instead of taking their word for it as "knowing more about it" because of their notoriety, position, education, or status. And it's not wrong to question and verify what you hear.
    Acts 17:
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

You're right, I should mention this to the Brother in private. But I certainly didn't feel led to cause anyone embarrassment in the Sunday School class.

I turned 62 last April and my Wife turned ...never mind. So we finally decided to join the "Adult"(seniors) Sunday School class. The very first lesson, I kid you not, was on Genesis 6 and the teacher told us that he agreed with the "Angels cohabited with women"  view(his words) because the scholars he read "know more about it than we do". I just kept my mouth zipped. Why bother?

Alright, what are your church themes for 2024.
Last year for us it was "Bring the Book" from Neh 8:1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
This year for us it will be "I Shall Not Be Moved": from Ps 62-5-8
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

HappyChristian got a reaction from Joe Chandler in Preaching on the mother of God, the virgin Mary
@TheGloryLand. please go ahead and change "God" in your title to "Jesus." And cut "the virgin" out. Salyan explained it well.  Sometimes when I look up a topic on the Internet, one of the titles from our forum will pop up. I've always thought that was pretty neat. However, we don't want folks thinking we as a board believe in the perpetual virginity or godhood of Mary. Thanks, TGL.

Our theme this year is "Giving the Lord More in 2024."  The "more" is non-specific in the theme but hubs will preach/teach specifics as the Lord leads him.
We also have a monthly memory verse as well as monthly topics. Hubs' desire is that folks learn the Bible, learn where things are found in the Bible, and hopefully grow to love the Bible more. January's topic goes along with the year's theme: Giving God Our Best. The verses for this topic are 1 Cor. 10:31, Col. 3:17, and 3:23. 1 Cor. 10:31 is the memory verse.

We had lasagna on New Year's Day too. I love my wife's lasagna. Leftovers were all gone yesterday 😞. My birthday is coming up. Maybe I'll ask her to make some more for that. 😋

Happy New Year to all - hopefully 2024 is one of the best years in our Lord ever.
We started the year Sunday evening (I realize the year didn't start til midnight, but it was 2024 elsewhere in the world heehee) with food and games at church after the service. It was fun, and hubs and I stayed longer than we planned...in fact, we ended up being the last to leave. lol
Yesterday we had our son, dil, and grandson over for dinner along with a young lady who's been coming to church (and whom I'm discipling currently). Lasagna and then more games. But THIS grandma got to play with her grandson and then feed him, rock him to sleep and just enjoy holding that sleeping boy til he woke up. Nice start to the new year. 😍

What's up, OB'ers! Can't let this moment slip by without sending out a massive Happy New Year to each and every one of you! Thinking about the ride we've had together here - the chats and the laughs. It's been real, and I'm thankful to be here with you all.
Before we dive headfirst into the New Year, I've gotta give a massive shoutout to our incredible mods! You all are the unsung heroes, keeping this place running smoothly, creating a space where we can all connect, share, and grow together.
    Happy New Year Everyone

Each year our theme deals with an area that we need spiritual strenghting in.
Our preaching is done with mostly expository with some topical thrown in.
On our pulpit we have the saying on it... "Just preach Jesus". I've heard preaching that was about opinions on both expository and topical preaching. If a pastor has an agenda, it will come out regardless of the type of preaching/teaching.

So has he set that in motion or are you just thinking he's heading that direction (FWIW, IMO unless it's weed coming across the border, it's none of the fed's business...don't get me wrong, I hate it for several reasons, but each state needs to deal with what happens in the state without big brother looking over the shoulder and forcing things [which isn't working anyway]).
