I miss the reasoned, godly voice and advice of my friend Alan.
I miss his lessons posted here.
I miss his input to the discussions.
Mostly I miss his gentle advice, direction, and when necessary, rebukes.
    Pro 27:6(a)  Faithful are the wounds of a friend;

Although we never met face to face, I count him as a true friend, and look forward to the day when we do meet face to face, as we glory  in the Lord together.

I know all of our churches can use prayer, but I would like to ask prayer for our church Highpoint Baptist Church. We are on the verge on certain days of out-growing our little building and need to seek the Lords guidance. Serving the Lord is great. Here is our most recent baptism that we had 2 weeks ago.

HappyChristian got a reaction from PastorMatt in How many (if any) Deacons does your church have and how much power do they have?
Ugh...nothing like typing an answer and it getting deleted. Grr...and it happened again. I'm not very fond of this keyboard - the cursor jumps and messes things up constantly.
Anyway...our church is too small for deacons right now.  Instead, my husband started a men's council. All men who are members of the church are invited and welcome to attend the quarterly meeting to discuss the business meeting agenda.
While they are not titled as deacons, they do some of the same things. For instance, my hubs bounces off them different things like purchases for the church that costs above his monthly discretionary fund (not his pay...just a certain amount that the church voted on to allow him to use for the church without having to meet and vote on it). They discuss the financial report and vote to recommend it to the congregation at the meeting. Etc.
I know that, once we are at the point where we need deacons, much of what the men do will be what the deacons do. They won't have "authority" but will still discuss and recommend things to the church during meetings.  And other things as the Bible lays out.

Unfortunately, some churches do display this kind of behavior. Like Pastor Markle said, put your trust in God alone and not people.
May I ask what hypocrites in the church have to do with your individual relationship with God? Your faith should be in God, not a pastor or people

Rock, country, rap, (and you could probably add any or most types of mainstream music) etc. is the music of this world, appeals to the flesh, has an ungodly origin and beat - and ccm that follows it is just disguised and doesn’t magically become blessed of the Lord because you added Christian lyrics to it. One of the things that really struck me when studying out the issue of ccm about 22-23 years ago was: if the beat/type of music does not matter spiritually, how come every single ccm artist/group that I have ever heard of/studied out has obvious compromise in their lives? Many are covered with tattoos and piercings, men with long hair and women with short, off on major doctrines (ie. oneness Pentecostals, believe God is our Father/Mother, believe in a works salvation), involved in adultery or homosexuality, are ecumenical (like joining with Catholics or playing before the Pope), nor practice separation from the world in their lives (as heard in many interviews where they praise ungodly secular bands as their musical inspirations + some groups even playing the music of these groups in their concerts).
These are just some examples or types of compromise that I can think of off the top of my head. I am in no way saying a particular group is guilty of all of these or anything like that - however, I challenge you to find ANY ccm or ccw group today that is godly, separated, sound in doctrine, conservative/modest in dress and appearance, etc. That is why I stopped listening to ALL of ccm and ccw, and I am honest enough with myself, others, and the Lord to acknowledge when I compromise and allow any secular rock, etc . into my life, I am sinning. I would be willingly fooling myself to think I could listen to the Christian version of these same types of music I repented of and please the Lord and strengthen my walk with Him while doing so.
    1 John 2:15-16
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Yup, we need more people to stand up against this. I was just talking to Pastor Clark of Solid Rock Baptist Church in NJ recently, and he has 5 criminal charges against him for holding services, not to mention the thousands in fines.
Another pastor friend of mine in Mass, has been fined multiple times for holding services. At the beginning the police would be out front of his church on their horses trying to intimate those going in to worship.

There are at least 20 or more churches I can tell you about here in the Northeast. Just like the 3 Hebrew men when facing the fiery furnace, we not to not bow, bend, or break.

I think I'd love to try that. I've only had moose once in my life, and that was when I lived in MN. I was surprised to see a moose walking the streets of Montevideo, MN when I was making deliveries for Carl's Bakery out of Granite Falls, MN. Most of the time they don't come that far South. I loved the moose steak I had, and the moose stew as well (even though I ate both the same day, I guess that technically would count as having moose 2x!) and wouldn't mind having more. But, we don't get moose here in Tennessee! We've got plenty of deer, though. As many as my wife has hit with cars of ours and killed, I should have a freezer full, but, we donated what we got to the homeless shelters and lower income individuals.
Yes, I will support a "franchise" as well. But, if I know that it's a corporate store, we avoid it. One of my cousins in Indianapolis took a huge hit this past year because of the restrictions, and ended up losing three of his five restaurants. I'm surprised he hasn't closed up the other two, but last I heard, they were holding their own thanks to people who wanted to support local businesses.

    Welcome aboard.
I have an SBC pastor friend in S. Tex. I met on line who I hope to meet personally this year. We both served in the Navy so we kind of hit it off on several points. I can fellowship with folks not called "Baptist" without reservation. After all its all about the relationship with Jesus Christ (shh...don't tell anyone but he was non-denominational) ✝️.

Thank-you. I'm very thankful that I came across this board. I'd been praying about options to FB, and the Lord led me here, and back to the Baptist Boards as well. I don't know how long I'll be on the BB, but, I hope to be here for some time. 🙂 Blessings!

If there were decent mom and pop pizza places here, we'd patronize them. But there aren't. At least Papa Murphy's is fresh. heehee
Because of the horrible response to covid by our governor, so many businesses took a hit. We are not rich by any means, but are glad when we can support them...even if they are franchise. 🙂

One of my dearest friends lost her father today. We are rejoicing that he is in Glory, but those of us who have lost our dads know the grief that settles in. I used to spend time at her house during days off from college and grew to dearly love her parents.
Her mom is still here, but is not well. I would appreciate prayer for the Hughes family as they begin their journey of grieving. Thank you.
It is a wonderful comfort to know he's with the Lord.

HappyChristian reacted to BrotherTony in Please pray for my biological father and his families salvation
I was very young when my mother and father divorced and was adopted by my mother's second husband. I finally found my biological father way back in the 1980s, and we have stayed in touch. I have witnessed to him and my stepmother several times, but they seem to be dead set against God for many years. Now that my father is dying of emphysema, he is asking questions at times about God, Salvation and forgiveness. I continue to witness to him. He is in stage 4 of the emphysema, and he doesn't have many months or years left. Please pray that he will accept the Lord, and that my stepmother will follow suite. I have one half-brother from this marriage that has drug issues, one that has been in prison, and a 1/2 sister who has lived a life that would make many here blush. She at least claims to be saved, but the life she lives and the lives of her kids aren't that of a Christian home. They all need Jesus Christ. Please, just pray for the Bohall family. God will know who they are. Thank you in advance.

Can I encourage you to look at Scripture for you to get your doctrine? In my personal opinion, the Bible is all that I care about as that is my final authority, not google.
Thank you for the links and I appreciate the time you tool to reply. I guess I was more interested in what your thoughts were and not someone else.
Let's start with 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. I'm curious to know what event you believe that is referring to, and why. Thank you, I'm currently doing a study on the end times so your input will be greatly appreciated.
