  1. Linda, we appreciate your keeping us updated.  While we never met in person, I enjoyed knowing Jim via this forum. He was a godly example and a good administrator. I know he prayed for my family during various hard times, and that has always been a blessing to my heart.

We (my hubs and I) are so very sorry for the results of this journey...other than we know that Jim will be in Glory, whole, and waiting for you. We will continue to keep you in our prayers as you walk this path. God bless you and your family, Linda.

  2. Please pray especially harder for Linda and their kids. Received this an hour ago.  Any messages you might have for Linda, please post them here or pm them to me and I will relay.

"This email is very hard for me to write and send. But it makes me feel better to be able to voice (write) this.

Over the last few months before Jim had his surgery - in my grief now - I had forgotten. In Jim's prayers, that I heard, he often dwelled on his home in heaven and distinguished it from his home in heaven and his home on earth. To most people that may not mean anything, but for me, it told a lot. He had never really done that before a few months ago.

Now that he is not waking up, the doctors have their reasons why. His brain is severely damaged by the stroke. If he did wake up it is likely that he wouldn’t be able to see, speak, feed himself, or breathe on his own. He has also developed an infection (Pneumonia) in his lungs. But I think there is an added reason - he doesn't want to wake up. He really has nothing to look forward to, he hated what the neuropathy was doing to him and it was getting worse, to the point that at some point he wouldn't have been able to do anything but sit in his chair and wait to die, which he felt he was already doing.

I really think he was ready to go months ago, long before he knew about his heart problem. Even though he did have great hope that he would recover from his surgery and feel better and have more energy. I also feel he was torn between the desire to die and leaving me a widow. But there is also that he felt trapped in his body.

So I have decided that I will let him die peacefully. I think he has a few more days before he has to have the stomach feeding portal installed. I am going to tell them not to. It will also be at that time I will have them remove his ventilator so he can pass peacefully. There really is no hope he will recover, but even if there was - recover to what? To continue his neuropathy deterioration? I really think he doesn't want that, and is one reason he hasn't woke up.

I am sorry, so very sorry. Not just for me, but for him, his family, and his close friends. I also know he loved his children dearly. I don't know the exact date they will do this, but it will happen soon. I will go and see him one last time tomorrow and say my goodbyes. I cannot bear to watch him die. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. But he would not want to live like this, and I am abiding by his wishes. Please know, my heart goes out to you."
  3. I don't think it's wise for a young person to trade services, but for someone who is steady in the faith like Invicta, it could be a tool. JW's as a general rule meet 2 times per week, Friday or Saturday being a day many choose (as well as Sun am). So someone could visit a JW service and still not miss their own.  It would have been interesting to hear his reaction to your pastor's message, Invicta. Good for you to be upfront with him about beliefs.

  4. Sorry I didn't add this update earlier - we were at a discipleship meeting. It doesn't sound good, but here is what Linda said:

"I did talk to the neurologist. But give me a little bit to digest the information I received, so I don't give it to you wrong. I will get back to you tomorrow. Please be patient with me.  I will say there is some chance he might somewhat recover, but it would not be soon. The stroke did occur during his surgery."

  5. We strive to be equally friendly to all. And we do fellowship as much as we can. Just today, we celebrated the return of our Sunday School kids. For reasons that are their own, they moved and we couldn't find them. They have been gone since May. God moved and brought them back to us today! So I thought a little celebration was in order. We were just going to do it in Sunday School, but their mom came with them today, so I asked my hubs if we could just share the cake with everyone.  So after church, we had chocolate cake and strawberry cake (the favorites of the kids). And we chatted and just had a good time.

  6. Update from  this morning:

"As of today there is still no change. I asked the nurse to have his doctor call me. We are trying to get an MRI to see how much damage the small strokes have done. He has an implant in his back for his neuropathy, which is metal. They are trying to determine if it would be safe for Jim to get the MRI.

I will let you all know when I learn anything more.

    Linda"

@DaveW, this is her response to the message and link:  "
Thank you so much for your message and yes he does love acapella music! Because he is hard of hearing he turns it up real loud! lol.
    Again thank you

    Linda"

I am not sure why there are some Christians, that don't believe the climate is changing somewhat. I see some changes all around. We don't need to be against these changes here. ??

What Bro. Tony said is true, TGL...and any scientist who's worth his salt will admit it. Climate is cyclical. If you can find it, go back and look at the records from when they began recording weather and you'll see that it's the truth. There have been times when the earth has "cooled" (by VERY few degrees) and times when it has "warmed..."  But politicians found out how to capitalize on it (read: Al Gore and Newt Gingrich) and began in the 70s to call it global cooling. However, by the 90s they saw a change, so they called it warming. Then they realized how foolish they looked when places that normally didn't get a lot of snow were dumped on...so they changed it to climate change.

They are not referencing the fact that climate changes and is cyclical. No, no.  What they mean is that man is destroying the ozone (and they cite the ozone hole - which grows and shrinks as God set it up to do). Cows are destroying the ozone...which is why the FDA just approved Bill Gates' fake meat...get rid of the cows and make lab grown meat cuz climate change.

It is a political tool made to fool people. Again, do some research. It truly is fascinating stuff to see how VERY LITTLE the temps of the earth have actually changed since recording began.  I do believe the climate changes. God said it did. He calls it summer, winter, springtime, and harvest. And He promised that those seasons - those climate changes - would continue while the earth stands. I'm not against the cyclical changes of climate...I'm against the liars trying to destroy our earth by pushing their agenda and making us pay for it.

Thanks for this info - I had been wondering.

Please pass on my love to Mrs JimAlaska - it would take forever for a letter to get there from here.

For Mrs Jim, I know Brother Jim would love this version. We are praying over here in Western Australia also.

I have passed on the message and the song.  Thanks, Dave...I know she'll appreciate it (as will Jim).

This is what I am trying to figure out. Does the New Testament talk about small, medium, and large sins? Not regarding salvation. Like in a person that punched, stabbed, or shot someone. Punch small sin, stabbed medium sin, shot large sin. Taking the Lord Super not saved, sin. Taking the Lord super, saved and no repentance for sins committed. Are all sins measure differently?

There is actually only one unpardonable sin: and that is rejecting Christ (the Bible calls it blaspheming the Holy Ghost...one blasphemes Him when one completely rejects Christ).

Here's a suggestion for a study on things, TGL. Find all the abominations listed in the Old Testament, and then find where in the New Testament we are taught to avoid them. You might be surprised how many things there are...if it's an abomination in the Old, it is still so in the New even if it's not called that...because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Again, I must reiterate, that in what was classified as a mega church in my day was anything over 1,500. I grew up in such a church. Large was @ 750+. Granted, today's mega Churches run into the tens of thousands... still, let's not discount the smaller megas by prejudice. Also, not all megas are as you described.

Experience and knowledge are not prejudice. And I didn't say all megas are as I described - I said WHEN I THINK of megas - bit of a difference...but by far most are.  "Your day" is pretty basically the same as mine, since I am only a couple years older than you. I attended large churches...but the term "mega" didn't become a thing until the 80s (please note that I am not saying there weren't large -- and I mean more than 750+ -- churches before them, because I'm not). And I'm not discounting anything. By the very definition of "mega," there's no such thing as smaller ones.

I'm not really interested in an argument, as terminology can be subjective. But I will stand by the fact that the 3,000 souls were not added to a "mega" church. The definition of mega includes the idea that said church offers EVERYTHING to it's members and attendees - schools, entertainment, etc., etc. (I didn't make up that definition, BTW)   The first church did nothing like that. Hence, it was not, by definition, mega.

  11. We had Mexican last night. Nachos, to be specific. Nummo!

Our ladies are meeting for lunch today at Applebee's. Even though it's so early, usually when I have lunch out I'm not hungry for dinner. I'm sure hubs will have his usual massive plate of veggies (raw...he likes to crunch lol).

  12. I don't believe that the 3,000 souls added to the church would qualify as mega in current terminology. When I hear mega church, I don't just think large church. I think modern, feel-good, raunchy atmosphere/music, doing all they can to bring in whomever, sometimes regardless of salvation. But that's just me. heehee

And we are one VERY small church that won't be closing. ?

  13. Brother Jim's surgery is complete. I will post updates here as I get them from his wife. Please be sure to pray for her as well.

First - "I am beyond exhausted, but I know many are waiting to hear how Jim's surgery went. The surgery went very well. They ended up doing a quadruple bypass. The Doctor said his heart was like brand new in how it functions now ? -

However, the last I heard he hasn't woke up. They did a CT scan to see if there was anything wrong that would keep him from waking up.  But they said they didn't know how long it would be before the doctor would read them and get back to me. So, I chose to go home because we have a dog that needs taken care of and the hospital doesn't like people to sleep there.  I will update you all further, but I have to get some sleep. I  will call before I fall asleep to see if the doctor has looked at them. I will update as soon as I know. If I don't update within an hour there is no news to tell."

An hour later - "Ok, the doctor called. The ct scan shows he has had some small multiple strokes on both sides of his brain. But it doesn’t show how old they are. But this may be why he isn't waking up. They are treating him like they would if he had just had a stroke. They are also going to do an MRI soon."

A few minutes ago - "I just got through talking to the nurse. There are no changes. I will call in every morning to check on him. And if there are any changes the nurse will call me. At this point they said his no waking up would probably be because of the stroke."

I looked up three recipes for this and they all said use good quality beef. One said rib eye steak the other two said filet steak which is very expensive.

I used a pot roast from the beef we got from our neighbor. It was SO good! I don't like thick pasta, so I used angel hair (thinner than spaghetti). We all liked it very much!

So there is a little bit left over...Randy will likely have that and some of the roast for supper. Mom is making herself some soup. And I'm  thinking a hamburger. Heh. It's like a diner here sometimes.

HC, that reminded me that when I lived in Alaska I often did Moose stroganoff. Like beef, it is very tasty, although lacking in fat, like  most wild game. I usually cut it in strips before cooking, it seemed to tenderize it some.

I've never had moose, but would be willing to try it. I don't like fatty meat, so I'd be happy with that! I prepped the roast in the pressure cooker so it was tender and melt in your mouth!
