  1. Basically a pastor we knew in the past who was a missionary in the Philippines before he became a pastor' date=' told my dad that once a family is involved with demonic activity, that the demons will tend to stay within that family, and down through generations. Once the family gets saved, the activity generally leaves....however it can revisit the children up until the time the children get saved, in which case the activity once again goes away. I am not sure how long the generational stuff goes on, I guess its different in every case.[/quote']

I have heard this before, as well. And I know of people who seem to have lived in this way. But one of my hesitancies in believing that it is actually generational is the fact that Jack Chick promoted it (not saying I don't think it's so...I just am hesitant). I know, not everything he puts out is bad, but he's really into the demonic/witchcraft thing, which kinda bothers me...

Personally, I think that anyone who is not saved is open to demonic activity (and saved people can be oppressed!). I'm not 100% sure as to whether a saved person can be possessed, since the Holy Spirit resides within, but I know godly men who have given testimony of seeing saved people who were.

missf - I think Kita's right on the mark with the idea of moving away...at least from his family. Your family sounds like a typical unsaved family. His is into much scarier stuff. And you can rest assured that they were spiritually aware when their son got saved! And their spirit did not agree with your spirit, which is why they treated you the way they did. Now that he is saved, it's out in the open.

Here's something that maybe the two of you should pray about. Have you thought about him finishing school on his own, not depending on his paretns? Perhaps that's what the Lord would have him do?
  2. and we think its possible the vote is going to be more split as far as younger vote vs. older vote in the church. We'll see...praying for unity.

This is often true nowadays. One of the reasons we changed our voting age to a little older.

As far as the oppression goes...we know some missionaries to Ireland who told us that there is definitely demonic oppression where they are. He told us that as soon as the plane lifted off the ground to head back to the states for furlough, he could fill the oppression lift...and when they landed back there, he could feel it come back on.

Maybe your time away allowed you to be refreshed enough to be able to feel the oppression more keenly. I was reading in Psalm 37 today, and thought these verses were appropriate to your situation (the whole Psalm is good, too for your situation with that other pastor...)

    Verses 1-6
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
  3. We have a church really near our church...one pastor was there until retirement and built it up to a good size. The pastor that took over seems to be egotistical and want to build a large church, full of people with decent means, etc.

Anyway there have been several to leave that church, some over the treatment of the older pastor, but others for ethical or misc reasons. A few have come here.

So the other day one of their "ex" members was on a visitation route on our actual road (a mile or two away, but still our road the church is on) and this other church happened to be at the same place on visitation. Allegedly, their brand new, fresh out of college, assistant pastor told one of our visiting young adults (actually Happy you may know her, she will be a senior this year at FH) that we didn't need to be visiting there where they were! And it was our same road our church is located on!!!!

My husband tried emailing the pastor about it and it just backfired on him, the pastor said some pretty snide (in a spiritual way) things and so my husband had to give up.

This along with some financial problems in the church...we've hit a few speed bumps. This all a year after we got our new youth/assistant pastor. We are really stepping up trying to reach the community, and we can tell the devil doesn't like it.

It's too bad that pastor doesn't realize that the gospel can be presented by others as well...of course, it doesn't appear that he's too interested in getting the gospel out!! So sorry you are going through that, but I'm glad your church is there for the folks who do and will need to find a new church home!

Who is the young lady (PM me?)?

  4. The Bible nowhere lists pants as a distinction. The Bible nowhere says a woman can't wear pants made to fit a woman.
Never said it did. But the principle is there; whether or not you want to follow it is your choice.

  5. I can still tell a woman in slacks from a man in pants... can you? Not always

A woman's pants do not make her look like a man any more than a man in a box makes him look like a water heater. But the Bible doesn't anywhere indicate a man can't get into a box. The Bible is clear that women and men are to be distinct.

  6. :amen::amen: By all means lets change this converstion over from David Cloud to David Kidd. :thumb My FIL doesn't care for David Cloud's writings and my MIL loves him, but I don't think they have "knock down" drag out arguments like this. :roll I would hope not. :coffee

The Fall and Rise of Christian Standards is a really interesting read. Kidd has really done a lot of research for the book. I think anyone who reads it will profit from it, truly, whether they accept what he says or not!
  7. Deuteronomy 22:5 is not speaking of everyday garments. It is speaking of battle armor. A woman was not to put on battle armor.

The Hebrew word for pertaineth in Deuteronomy 22:5 is the word 'kelee. It is defined as battle armor, not normal clothing.

    Strong's Hebrew Dictionary
    3627. k@liy
    Search for H3627 in KJVSL
    ylk k@liy kel-ee'
from 3615; something prepared, i.e. any apparatus (as an implement, utensil, dress, vessel or weapon):--armour ((-bearer)), artillery, bag, carriage, + furnish, furniture, instrument, jewel, that is made of, X one from another, that which pertaineth, pot, + psaltery, sack, stuff, thing, tool, vessel, ware, weapon, + whatsoever.

    See Hebrew 3615

So women wore battle garments? No.

It is referring to the practice that pagans had of exchanging clothes - women would put on men's armor and men would put on women's clothes before they went to worship in their pagan temples. God included it because He didn't want Israel following that practice. Is it reiterated in the NT? Not in those words. But there is a requirement for modesty, there is a requirement for distinction in gender, there is a requirement for not identifying with the world. All of which pants on women violates...even if it's fluffy pants.

  8.:lol: I think it's a guy thing...although I like the Rifleman!! We got a set of 80 episodes a while back (still have a looong way to go through them! ) because my hubby had never seen them! I couldn't believe it, and I was right = he loves the show!

  9. it makes me pretty upset because I know what kind of influence he's had on people.

Umm, he's had a tremendously good influence on a lot of people. You know what kind of influence? You don't know anything of the kind. You think it - vastly different from actual knowledge!

Whew - Jerry, you started a firestorm asking about his book!:lol: I will reiterate that he doesn't tie pants on women to salvation...I've read the whole book, so I know. Yes, SFIC, women do lust after men nowadays. And there's a whole host of reasons for that...it might make an interesting new thread.

I think it's interesting, SFIC, that you are willing to take a stand against a book you haven't even read...and then you defend Cloud. Confusing.

Yes - it is a heart issue, and Cloud brings that out in his book. I really think it's interesting how quickly "legalism" is accused because someone believes that a woman shouldn't wear pants. As I stated in a previous post, there are principles other than modesty at play. Read the book by David Kidd. It's really a good one. It might surprise some of you... :Green

    (thanks, Pastorj and BroMatt!)

  10. candlelight - I like David Cloud because he tries so hard to be straight with scripture. I suspect that has more to do with your MIL's liking him as well. I am always in a dress or skirt, also, and was before I ever even heard of him. :Green Good for her not to impose her views...and being willing to share when asked is good, too!
  11. Boy, the term legalism is sure tossed around freely...

Just to be clear...David Cloud in no way links pants on women to salvation. THAT is legalism. Nor does he in any way indicate that women should be forced to wear them. Nor does he state that a woman is in poor standing with God if she wears pants. He presents information that is good to read...whether a person agrees with his conclusions or not is up to the reader.

Again - I recommend the book. Regardless of the bias. If the reader is aware that the author is going to conclude that women should wear pants, that is enough "warning." All, and I do mean ALL, people respond according to their bias...even we posters here on OB. We all say that we are obeying scripture...but it is still our bias. That is no reason not to read an author. The whole book - not just excerpts.

candlelight - Cloud's book isn't old, but it isn't brand new, either. As far as your "Laura's Home" girls go - when a woman or a girl walks into a church, it is the responsibility of the members to treat her as Christ would. And the pastor is to preach the Word of God. And Christians are to let the Holy Spirit work. He does, and He does it better than any of us can do...kudos to you and your church for your work with those needy girls!!! :thumb

  12. 3 months ago or so a black cat walked across my path here at the apartment complex. I remember thinking about hte old superstition' date=' but I don't believe in that stuff so I wasn't worried. A little while later we found out we were pregnant, so...lol instead of bad luck following it I got good news. Not that anything was a result of that cat, but it just proves that all good things come from the Lord and any bad thing that happens He has to allow it before it can happen to you.[/quote']

I had a black cat cross my path too...just before we left to go to our son's Basic graduation. She is the prettiest thing. She loves being held. We considered keeping her, but a neighbor has her instead.
  13. My husband loves watching tv' date=' its relaxing to him. However he did decide to cancel cable tv, which was nice. We subscribe to Netflix (really nice) and then have our own videos, and antenna tv for basic ballgames and news (we rarely watch that) and etc.[/quote']

My hubby likes it too - but he saw what it did to his family as he was growing up (a tv in every room) and didn't want that...so we don't. :Green We've read a lot of books that way. Boy - has this gone off topic!
  14. Has anyone here read David Cloud's book called Dressing For The Lord (something like that)? I am thinking about ordering some more of his books' date=' and just considering some of the titles to purchase. Thanks.[/quote']

I have, Jerry, and it is good. In fact, he quoted David Kidd's book, and that is how I found out about it.

Sean was posting as I was...I agree with him.

  15. Yes. :thumb It seems that all the shows are nothing but garbage. Hubby and I are going to be having a very looong talk about keeping one TV for VHS-DVD movies that are teachable, and then, we can rent any good old-fashioned movies from the library. These TV's are out of here. You know me LuAnne, when I get serious about something, that is it! hehe. I have had it with "Hollyweird" filth. I don't need these TV's---and, hubby will appreciate it in the long run. LOL. The Christian women from my old IFB church (MIL and SIL's) have been telling me not to do this, but the Lord is telling me to muster the strength and get this job done. :bible:

Don't blame you at all - just make sure that if he says no, you don't push it! Sometimes a woman's passion can get a man's dander up. If he says no, just keep praying about it and try again another time. My hubby had vowed to God before we ever met that we wouldn't have a tv in our home. And we never have...we do have a computer that shows dvd's, but we don't watch movies on it. Just documentaries, and very rarely. If we want to watch a movie, we go to my office or the library = so it has to be really good to make it worth it!!

Seems like this case is a bad precedent for' date=' say, teenagers who feel being raised in a "strict" Christian family is "abusive". I just now wrote the CLA to see what bearing the Winkler case has on future "Christian" murder cases.[/quote']

Yeah - the precedent could be bad if other courts wanted to follow it. Let us know what they say to you - I'd like to hear their opinion.

  16. This is why Hollywood is so dangerous. It sounds like something you might catch on the show "Cold Case." I am tired of shows mocking Christianity. You are sure to see something like it in the news, eventually. Now, more than ever!

And it's only going to get worse...
  17. Interesting posts. :Green Like Kita, I'm not going to argue with anyone...there's no profit in it. But I did want to say that there are more principles than modesty at work in our appearance. I have suggested this book before, but I wanted to suggest it again. It is called The Fall and Rise of Christian Standards by David Kidd. He is a pastor, but I'm not sure even what his denomination is! He used the KJB throughout when he referenced scripture. And he talks about more than clothing. It's really a very good read, even if a person disagrees with his conclusions.
