    Balance.
We don't know all of the particulars.
We don't know all that may have been done to correct the situation...or what hasn't been done to correct the situation.
    We don't know.
Without knowing all of the particulars, I think leniency should be afforded in most cases; after all, we are all still growing. I didn't adopt all of my beliefs or convictions the day that I was saved. Some things changed immediately; some didn't. The Lord has grown me and groomed me as I've grown in the knowledge of Christ...and he continues to do so. I was a "rocker" when I got saved. Long hair, rebellious attitude, and so forth. I replaced worldly rock music with so-called "Christian-rock" after I was saved. It took a while for me to realize what I was doing and accepting...but at the time...and in my understanding at the time...I thought I was doing well. For example, I gave up television, drinking, and foul language immediately...no problem...didn't even notice those things had disappeared at first...but the music took a while to get fixed and get straight.
In my current place...and looking at my own situation, I would afford the new Christian, carnal Christian (to a lesser extent), or non-Christian grace in their current state. I certainly didn't become who I am today on the day that I was saved. I, and all of us, are still growing. I'm not saying that my situation was perfect or one to be copied by anyone...
    ...I'm just saying that that's me. :)

    Post-posting follow-up...
I contacted this particular pastor after listening to the sermon, and I respectfully and humbly explained why the word was indeed translated correctly in the KJV...also gave him the link to Cawdrey's dictionary.
I never heard back from him, and I never saw a retraction, correction, or the admittance that he could have been wrong.
    Pride is a dirty business...

I would love to have a gardening section.  Last year was my first year doing straw bale gardening.  So we experimented and loved the experience.

You don't have to wait until they're dry.  Many people find tree services that will empty their trucks right where they want them.  The people get free chips and the tree service doesn't have to pay to empty their truck.  I'm still learning about it.  I just tried my first wood chip garden section last year and it really was fantastic.  You should watch the video I posted.  He talks a lot about it.

Interesting...never heard of straw bale gardening, but it makes sense. I've seen many bales of straw start sprouting if left to themselves.
So...if I can ask, what did you basically do? Just put seeds/plants in/on the bales?

The Bible specifically says that "fornication" is an actual sin against "the body" so I would say no.  I'm assuming that means it has to be "physical" before divorce would be a consideration.

    Yes, I'm 152 years old.
    3xGreat uncles I guess.
My great great great grand daddy was also a Confederate soldier in the war. He survived and became a Baptist preacher.

The War Between the States was not a "civil war"; it was about TWO separate countries at war. The South had already seceded from the Union over state's rights. .  It was not over "slavery" but that was added in as propaganda to garner support for the North's cause. Lincoln himself said that his main objective was to preserve the Union whether he freed ANY slaves or not, irregardless of how many Americans he had to kill to do it. . Only a small percentage of the rich even had slaves. I had two uncles who died in the war, one in battle and another in a Northern prison camp. The South was invaded and had to defend their homes from the likes of WT Sherman, notorious for his "march to the sea".

My thoughts exactly. If my understanding from scripture of the likely, possible physical infirmities of Paul is accurate, he probably wouldn't qualify according to CHS. Neither would Timothy with his timidity and "often infirmities".

1 Corinthians 1:27King James Version (KJV)
    27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

I would say, the Creator would be more likely to choose a narrow chested weakling, than a man who doesn't preach according to the Bible.

As a proud Southerner of many generations, I have studied the "War of Northern Agression" (see what I did there?) to a degree not many have bothered, and I'm certainly not offended by how it is called, but to this day I refuse to sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
True story - in 2000, a bunch of us left Tennessee and Texas together to meet in Sydney for the summer olympics for 2 weeks of outreach. We passed out over 1,000,000 tracts in over 400 languages. The local Baptist church there hosted us one Sunday, and it happened to be on the weekend of the 4th of July. I suppose they were trying to be good hosts, for they truely were wonderful people, because one of the hymns they chose was The Battle Hymn of the Republic. As we stood there, I couldn't help it, I had turn and look behind me, and there were 7 or 8 pews full of unreconstructed southerners just standing there quietly while surrounded by a large church full of Aussies blithly singing a Northern fight song for us at the top of their lungs.
No one was offended, there was no trouble, and we appreciated the thought and innocence in which it took place. But we still would not sing it.

I would like to make the following announcement:
My name is Bob Hutton, the real one, and I want it to be known that someone in my area of Kent, England has been impersonating me on the internet by the use of a publicly used computer, ie in the local library.
As a street preacher based in Canterbury I have had a great deal of opposition from opponents of the Gospel who have attempted to stop me.  Not content with that, they have been going on social media and putting my name to comments, most of which have been deeply disrespectful to others.  I discovered, yesterday, that this happened to your forum.  The kind of comments he, or she, has made, were designed to impugn my character and make me appear odd, or even mentally unbalanced.
Therefore, I have registered as "the real Bob Hutton". in order to put the record straight.
I do hope this will be read by all who have been caused offence by this imposter, and that my good name will be restored.

I believe it comes down to whether a person has been genuinely convicted of their sinful state and need of salvation...and whether they are willing to accept their need of salvation in regard to their sinful state and ultimate eternal destination. Some may be convicted, but they are unwilling to accept salvation. In my own personal experience, it took more than once to "convict" me enough to be saved. I didn't respond the first time that I knew I needed salvation. I knew that I needed to be saved, but I rejected it because of my own sinful desires. Some folks aren't willing to give up their selfishness in order to be saved.
...and that's why I said that I wouldn't say that all Calvinists are like that. :) I learned long ago to stop generalizing people...but I still fail at times. :(
My thoughts exactly...although, to give the benefit of the doubt...he/she could be a "watcher" who hasn't registered before, and he/she decided to get in while the getting was good. LOL! However, it's just too coincidental.
In regard to MacArthur, I find it interesting...and according to his own words...unless he has recanted since I watched the video...he has no testimony of salvation. His "testimony" is that he doesn't recall that there was ever a time that he was saved...just that he's always believed.
...and no, I won't take the time to find the video. I have no desire to. If anyone wants to see it, find it yourself and see for yourself...that's the only way you'll accept it in most cases. I don't mean to be unkind or unwilling to provide proof of my claims, but I just don't have any desire to.

I was a new, young preacher a little over 20 years ago, and was visiting a church in another state in the deep south while on missionary deputation to go overseas. There was a book shelf in the missions apartment in the church where we were staying. On the shelf was a copy of "Bondage of the Will" by Luther. I was a reader, and hungry to grow and learn, so I sat down to read it. I didn't make it through the first chapter. Even in my youth and inexperience (I had not studied the subject at all back then) the Holy Spirit impressed upon my spirit so strongly that what I was reading was wrong, I put it away feeling a heaviness that was almost akin to physical illness. I have since studied the doctrine of Calvinism over the years in a much more academic way, and all that did was explain to my mind what God had already settled in my soul. That it is heresy.
The exact same thing happened many years later as a pastor, when a member gave me a new book to clear for him titled "The Purpose Driven Church". Long before I could intellectually define what was wrong with that book, the Holy Spirit warned a poor, dumb-but-sincere preacher who honestly wanted to know and follow the truth, where ever it might lead.
I hate to run a sharp stick through anyone's sacred cow, but Spurgeon, Luther, Moody, Rice, Roloff, Hyles or whoever did not get a turbo version of the Holy Spirit that was not granted to the rest of us mere mortals. Nor did they receive a "private interpretation" of some better rendering of Scripture that gave them insight into truth not revealed to the rest of us. We're Baptists here, not Mormons. We believe in the priesthood of the believer, not the priesthood of "the Prince of Preachers".
