  1. Both premises are not mutually exclusive (sexual or of relating to Christ's love for His Bride). If we read the Song of Songs (the Torah) in the Hebrew, we find that Hebrew poetry is at times difficult to interpret. SOS is prOBably the most difficult book to interpret in the entire Old Testament. Regardless of where we come down on the overall interpretation, the language is filled with metaphors. To correctly interpret SOS, we have to be precise in recognizing where the choral and speaking parts begin and end. SOS is with no doubt a love song, and to fail to acknowledge and recognize this is very misleading. I believe that it is an allegory which represents Jesus' love for His bride (the church) and also ancient Israel. The depth of the love expressed in this book demonstrates just how much our Lord love us. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the deep and passionate love it took for the Lord to suffer the wrath of God to save us from it. The bible is filled with literal meanings that often have parallel interpretations that are metaphorical in order to help us understand the depths and riches of God's love for us.

  2. I think what many people misunderstand about the pre-trib view is that God's "wrath" is poured out upon the unbelieving world, not believers. Those who have been martyred and tried for their faith didn't suffer God's wrath, but had their faith tested. Being burnt to death for one's faith is called persecution. During the tribulation, there will be Tribulation saints (those saved during the tribulation) who will suffer persecution from the Antichrist. However, the saved before the Tribulation will not be present to suffer God's "wrath" poured out upon unbelievers (cf. Rev, 9:3,4). Christians can suffer for their faith to show their loyalty to the Lord, but Christians will never suffer the wrath of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:9 - For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to OBtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

  3. Wikipedia was the first place I checked and I don't agree with their definition as with many of the info found on wiki. The way modern day Christianity is...I wouldn't be surprised if one day wiki would give Christianity a negative slant. I have other sources that such as how society and culture has re-defined the meaning of the term "Jesus freak." My co-workers even disagreed with Wickipedia's definition of Jesus freak.

  4. What is a Jesus freak? I've heard different definitions of what a Jesus Freak is, ranging from extremely negative (although I don't see how that's possible) to extremely positive. Some of my co-workers have called me a Jesus freak because I'm always talking about Jesus, am part of a ministry that I'm too excited about, sing worship songs all day long, and have told my friends that I would have no prOBlem laying my life down for the Lord. What exactly is a Jesus Freak, and are there any Jesus freaks here? :D

  5. My first contention was that his sermons was a bit off in left field. However, as always, I wanted to compare what had been said in his sermon with the opinions of those here on OB. I agree with Jerry that there are reasons to be cautious of some meds such as antidepressants ,and that such meds do more damage than cure. I never once stated that taking prescription meds are tantamount to sorcery. The speaker cited several passages such as the one I quoted in Revelation and all I sought for was some opinions on this and all I got was misunderstanding of what I had said, except for Jerry. Btw, just to clarify...I don't, and have not condemned anyone taking prescription medication if they have a script. I have a prOBlem with legalization of drug use leading to drug abuse -- especially those who don't have a prescription.

I'm opting out of posting...too much headache and misunderstandings.

  6. Wow, again with this? I never once stated that I agree with the speaker, which is why I began the topic to get a second opinion. I gave an overview of his sermons and simply quoted what the speaker had said in his sermon, and you accuse of of siding with him? All I can say is WOW, just WOW!!!

  7. The speaker on sermonaudio believes that all prescription drug use is associated with sorcery, even when it's not accompanied with the occult.

Pharmakeia is a form of the Greek root word from which we get our English words: Pharmacy, Pharmacist, and Pharmaceutical. In the Bible, pharmakeia carried with it the idea of sorcery, occultism, and black magic. It is in this sense that Paul used the term in Galatians 5.20 as the word 'witchcraft'. In Rev. 9:21 & 18:23 it is translated 'sorceries'. Do you find it rather disturbing that approximately 60% of the population is taking at least one pharmaceutical drug every day? Some are taking up to fifteen and twenty! We are told that we are living during a time of the greatest medical breakthroughs in the history of the world yet, over one hundred million Americans suffer from various health prOBlems. Why has such a large majority of the world become dependent on pharmaceutical drugs? Perhaps you're one of the hundreds of millions around the world that's ingesting a daily dose of pharmaceutical medicine? Is it possible that the pharmaceutical/medical cartel has 'disease treatment' and not 'disease cure' in mind? The most powerful German economic corporate emporium in the first half of this century was known as IG Farben, and was nothing more than a powerful cartel of BASF, Bayer, Hoechst, and other German chemical and pharmaceutical companies. IG Farben was the single largest donor to the election campaign of Adolph Hitler & the beginning of the modern day pharmaceutical industry. Zyklon-B, an extermination gas produced by Hoechst, was used to kill millions of innocent people in death camps. The U.S. government's investigation (of all the factors leading to WW2 in 1946) came to the conclusion that without IG Farben the Second World War would of not been possible.

  8. I like the way you put "Christian" in quotation marks, as if to question the Christianity of those who disagree with you.

You must feel very much at home here.

Actually, we're not doing that at all. I, for one, was very clear that intoxicating drug use is wrong.

ALL drugs are a controlled poison. You can't overdose from taking too much vitamin C. Take enough of ANY drug and you will die, so it's a controlled poison. I live in a city where if drugs were to be legalized it would be abused. I know because I work in a ministry where there are recovering addicts...addicts recovering from hard-core drugs, prescription medication, and every drug under the sun. And yes, I would question whether anyone who would be responsible for the death of many is truly a Christian. Ramble on...I won't have anything else to do with this boloney.
  9. I didn't bother reading all the posts because the common sense answer is OBviously NO. WOW!!! Our church has been bending over backwards to make sure that marijuana does NOT get legalized, and now we have "christian" advocates wanting to legalize drugs? when does this end?

Isaiah 5:20 - Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

  10. A speaker on sermonaudio was claiming that the pharmaceutical industry is dabbling in sorcery. The bible uses the Greek word "pharmakeia" which the word pharmacy is derived from. It is also used in Revelation 18, and speaks of how all nations were deceived by this. Could it be possible that prescription medicine is a tool of the devil to deceive us? Some prescription medication side effects can exacerbate symptoms of the illness. E.g., the antidepressant Prozac has been known to increase the proclivity for suicidal tendencies. Furthermore, most OTC and prescription medication offers more side effects than relief.

Revelation 18:23 - And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries (pharmakei) were all nations deceived.

  11. actually, turkey does not make you sleepy. Overeating does (we don't feel that way during big dinner because it is usually time for bed anyhow... but on Thanksgiving, it's kinda like having a BIG dinner during lunchtime). That's what I saw yesterday on the show called "The Doctors".

Yeah, you would have to consume 10 turkey's to get enough tryptophan to induce sleep. People tend to overeat when it comes to Holiday meals and that's the reason why people are sleepy afterwards. Too much calories = :snooze::snooze::snooze:

  12. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with him, but Dr. Jack Van Impe believes that some Jews are preparing the way for Jesus and the building of the 3rd temple is a sign of Jesus' imminent return. On the contrary...I believe that the building of the 3rd temple is preparing the way for the Antichrist rather than Christ, and that the Antichrist sitting in the temple will be part of the strong delusion that God will send (2 Thess. 2:11), because according to Luke Christ is to sit upon the throne of David and rule in Jerusalem (Ps. 132:11,12; Is. 9:7; Ezek. 37:24,25; Amos 9:11-15; Lk. 1:32,33, etc.) and the Antichrist will mimic this event. As a result of this many will believe that the Antichrist is the true messiah.

2 Thessalonians 2:3,4 - Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Almost two thousand years ago, the second temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and the Jews in Palestine went into exile. Now some Jews in Israel today say it

  13. I'm sure a lot of you guys prOBably remember Marcus around here(Marcus2Israel). He hasn't been on here a while but a short time ago rejected Christianity and is a professing atheist. He's having a rough time and has really embraced atheism, evolution, etc. He really needs our prayers but he seems to have a lot of bitterness towards Christianity right now that he has to work through. Pray that God will bring him back to Him.

Wow, I am grieved over this. :( I pray that the Lord will remove him from the devil's grip.:icon_pray:
  14. There are a few basic, principles of discipline and orderliness that are covered in 1Cor.12-14 and the pastoral epistles. The local assemblies are not to be prescriptive rather than flexible. The wrong things have been emphasized by the historical church visible and tends to make mountains out of mole-hills having the tendency to get off on the wrong track. Many groups are involved in "building worship" and the order of service and it's corresponding ritual, and have elevated it to the status of an inflexible doctrine. This seems to be the reason that causes contention and division between church organizations in nearly all denominations. In the passage in Hebrews, it makes encouragement the reason for an assembly. The Greek word "parakaleo" is the standard word for encouraging someone; cf. we have the Holy Spirit as our Paraclete, or "encourager." And we find in Romans 15:4 that it is the "scriptures" and the truth which comes from it which is the basis for all genuine encouragement for Christians. The church is all about growing spiritually, advance, and encouragment -- and this happens only through the scriptures (The Word of God). The church is fulfilling the biblical mandate if it is focusing on the Word and teaching the truth of it. It's not fulfilling the biblical mandate if to the extent it is hung up on other matters regardless of how it's organized.

And the verse on the "double honor" is referring to pastors or teaching elder(s) being supported by the local church so that he may be skilled in the Word and learn enough to feed the flock. The primary reason to organize and give is for the pastor's salary, rather than building and other places where the church money usually goes.

John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

  15. I think I may still have the Opera browser, although I've encountered prOBlems with that in the past too. I suppose I might as well update my I.E. and cross my fingers, or keep logging in and out of OB to reset the memor usage K. I think I'll try the former. lol!
