  1. I also find it interesting that you post these on a thread about a heretical school.

By the way, I posted about these schools because I was reading the first page or two and saw reference to the three schools we've been talking about and wanted to make a brief comment based on my experience. I am not tryin to start an argument by any means...just share my experience.
  2. I would recommend firstly speaking to your mom about it. If that doesn't solve it, deliberately get up in the morning and do your routine stuff (shower, getting dressed, etc) and then sit somewhere where you can read your Bible. Hopefully the person would have enough respect to leave you alone when you're obviously reading your Bible.

  3. My recommendation is to find somewhere else to go that teaches the truth. Here are some options: Crown' date=' Ambassador, New England Baptist College to name a couple.[/quote']

Hmmm....I know this is old, but I wanted to say that I personally would not recommend Crown (I did attend there and have now left), and the other two, while I have never attended there, I have heard were extremely strict and legalistic.

    My two cents.
  4. Sorry to disappoint ya Kevin. :P I guess although I've been raised an IFB, I'm not so big on terms anymore and I kinda feel a little too much like I go against the flow here.

Rachel, I'm real glad you found it encouraging/challenging! :D

  5. This is not directed at this forum or even specific members here, but I've been wondering this and hopefully someone can shed some light.

Why must we either act super-spiritual or just be crazy and silly?

Of the many young people I know, there are very few that I've found that really know how to act appropriately. There are the ones who feel they have to speak in "thee's" and "thou's" in order to be spiritual and then there's ones who are so silly constantly I wonder that their age wasn't somehow mixed up and they're ten years younger than they say. Why can't people speak about the Lord any more in real terms? Why do we feel we have to spiritualize everything? Can't our Christianity be personal and REAL anymore???

I'm just so confused...The Christianity I grew up knowing and hold dear is one in which my relationship with Jesus Christ is real. You didn't have to speak with big words or as if you just stepped out of the 18th century. It was something you could speak about as if Jesus Christ really was your best friend. How often do you really talk about your best friends as you do about our Lord? I am not saying we should show the Lord disrespect or dishonor Him in our speech, but there comes a point where I believe all the "spiritual mumbo-jumbo" (for want of a better term) just gets dishonoring because the only reason we're doing it is to sound good.

I'm not looking for support on this or even opposition. I'm just wondering if anyone else understands and what we can do to make our faith real.

  6. Yes, I was born and raised into a Christian home, a blessing for which I am so very grateful. My dad is a preacher and has done pretty much all the official training to become a pastor, as well as doing a lot of other ministries on the side.

Being raised in a Christian home has given me strong values and a Biblical basis for them. My dad was never content to just let us read our Bibles...he would ask what we had been learning. So in this small way, we learned to share our faith and speak about what God was doing in our lives. That was something that I found really helped me when I chose to attend public school for two years, as I had the groundwork and teaching to help me share and be a witness to my unsaved friends. I would certainly not be the person I am today if not for the way I was raised.

  7. I have to admit firstly that I don't really go to youth group anymore, as much as I'd like to. By the time Saturday night comes around, I'm exhausted from the week and really don't feel like running around.

The youth group at my church goes out and plays sports together, generally basketball, soccer and one other game (can't remember right now). They also have special occasions where they'll go out to bowling or laser shooting or something else fun.

We do have a Bible component, however. The youth meet on Wednesday nights to have Bible study in one of the homes of a family from church and it's all run by one of the young men. They don't do a lot of outreach or that sort of thing, but just a few weeks ago we pretty much had all of our youth group (about 5 people) go over to Vanuatu for a missions trip.
