  1. Yeah I spent the end of Oct thru the end of Nov in 2009 preaching in about 20 churches all upstate NY, brrrrrr!!! Most were BBF sort of guys, but there are some good Bible believers up there. Martville is right outside of Oswego it´s not a big church, runs about 150 or so, but great pastor Bryant Lagoe. In fact I will be there again this November for the Missions Conf. You´re right though, its a lots of small towns up there, cold winter, but I really enjoyed my time there. Brother Ashton Nelson is in Chittenango, he isn´t PBI grad, nice man, great heart for souls. He did not start the work there, maybe he took over for the other guy. Another guy up in Watertown, named Stewart. We had a blessed time in his home. Anyways, I had a great time in NY and looking forward to going back to visit. God bless, calvary
  2. How about Martville? Are you near there? Emmanuel Bible Baptist. Chitinango has a good little church called North Madison. There is another guy in Rochester, can´t remember his name though. Where do you go? Sounds like you live in upstate NY. God bless, calvary
  3. Gospel Light Baptist Salisbury, NC Pastor Anthony Wyke. 704-798-0507 Faith Baptist Mint Hill, NC Rick Baker 704-545-7181 I do not where you are in relation to these 2 churches, but perhaps a phone call and they can help you out?. God bless, calvary
  4. You couldn´t find a quote of mine anywhere that I tithe or do not. Again you falsely accuse me of putting myself under the law. You are a liar. You just attributed to me a statement that is patently false.
  5. But the thread had nothing to do with tithing until you inserted your hobby horse soap box. You already ruined the thread and forced yet another thread into your anti tithe mantra, that seems to be the case with you in almost every thread your post on. I for one am just plain tired of hearing about your obsession. It is clear to me and to many others on this site that your heart is obviously hard against giving. You slander, you cavil, you mis quote, you falsely accuse just about any one who even mentions any standard of giving. I read your blog the other day. You sir are seriously obsessed with money in general which simply tells me you are in fact consumed with greed. Out of the mouth comes the issues of your life. Money becomes a stumbling block for you, you constantly stalk this site for any whisper of giving and then you pounce upon any mention and berate any one who dares to suggest that tithing is a good place to start with regular giving. If I do tithe, it is in no way an OT law tithe. It could´t be, we are not obligated to any OT tithe. Tithe is simply 10% of what I have. A tithe is a simple mathematical equation to help one understand a percentage point of a given quantity. You have yet to produce one shred of evidence that any one on this site ever posted that tithing is an obligation for any Christian. I personally an just plain sick and tired of you and your endless tirades. Give it a rest. Trust God to lead a soul here without your 2 cents worth. You demonstrate very little grace, very little kindness and very little faith in God to lead His people (NOT YOURS!) in what He would have them do. I have said it before and i will say it again. Your spirit is miserly, your attitude is spiteful and you come across as an angry man very often. Whatever Bible knowledge you may posses, I wouldn´t give you the time of day to listen to it. There is no meekness in your tirades and endless belittling rem, arks. If I was the mod here, I´d simply ban you. Not because I cant handle the truth, (You have never heard me tell any one to tithe, and you never will) but simply due to your contentious spirit and quarrelsome nature. You are a lousy example of godliness, sir, and that is said with much charity. calvary I have stated several times before, I could care a whit what you do or don´t do with your goods.
  6. Hi Shawn, I have lots of friends in Montana. Pleased to make your acquaintance. God bless, calvary
  7. Wow, another thread that does nothing to further the OP post. Another thread that does nothing to edify me. Another thread of trying to nail jello to the wall. It´s almost cultic the way this stuff carries on. So, back to the channel thing. Is this hymn now out of bounds?? How I praise Thee, precious Savior, That Thy love laid hold of me; Thou hast saved and cleansed and filled me That I might Thy channel be. Refrain: Channels only, blessed Master, But with all Thy wondrous pow’r Flowing through us, Thou canst use us Every day and every hour. Just a channel full of blessing, To the thirsty hearts around; To tell out Thy full salvation All Thy loving message sound. Emptied that Thou shouldest fill me, A clean vessel in Thy hand; With no pow’r but as Thou givest Graciously with each command. Witnessing Thy pow’r to save me, Setting free from self and sin; Thou who boughtest to possess me, In Thy fullness, Lord, come in. Jesus, fill now with Thy Spirit Hearts that full surrender know; That the streams of living water From our inner self may flow. I always liked that hymn. God bless, calvary
  8. So according to that kind of logic, the Amish boys do not lust after women?? If a mans heart is bent towards lust, he´ll find the curve of a woman in any clothing. In addition, that sort of statement lays the blame of the woman and exonerates the man. I don´t get it. How about, How much Bible should a man hide in his heart before he will stop lusting? Will he ever stop? God bless, calvary
  9. Dr Ruckman´s BIble Commentaries have been a blessing in my life. And starting in 1.... 2.... 3.... James Knox in Deland Fl has several great commentaries including Jonah, Zechariah, Genesis, Titus, Revelation. Dr Ken Blue ahs several commentaries, including Acts (one of the best I´ve ever read), Revelation and many smaller books that deal with the minsitry. God bless, calvary
  10. I truly do not want to hijack your thread, but just think about that response for a minute. If that is true, then how could any OT saint ever "look forward to the cross" an be saved!! Again, John I do not say you believe that or no, but I sometimes just want to point out contradicting potions as that "looking forward to the cross" thing is really hard to base upon the scriptures. Anyways.... carry one. Don´t mind me. God bless, calvary
  11. 1Co_14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
  12. Psa_25:3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Psa_119:46 I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed. Rom_1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Php_1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
  13. 1Co 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
  14. Luk 12:9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
  15. 2Co 1:13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;
  16. 2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
  17. 2Ti 2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
  18. Luk 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
  19. Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
  20. 1Co 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 1Co 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. As Malachi was an order for Israel, this is an order for the church. These saints began each week by gathering to fellowship. Part of that activity was to gather funds for the Lord´s people and His work. The amount was not fixed but flexible. Flexible in the fact that it was based upon how the Lord saw fit to prosper the individual during the previous week. Similes are metaphors using “as” or “like”. When I say the wind is “like” the Holy Spirit I am saying that you can learn truth about one by pondering the other. When I say he is sharp as a tack…. So the Lord said His order for giving in the New Testament church was simple. As God has prospered you = you give that to God. So…. Pay your bills, put a percentage aside so your family can enjoy it. When I have done all that, everything I have left is prosperity. I have the food I need. I have the shelter I need. I have the clothes I need. I have met the needs of my wife and the needs of my children as the Lord has directed me to do. EVERYTHING ELSE IS PROSPERITY. If we truly believed the word of God enough to give as God has prospered us, we would be taking on new missionaries every week, starting new ministries of outreach every week, sending out more Bibles and gospel messages every week, we would see more churches planted. If you have money to spend 10 dollars at McDonalds, you have 20 dollars to give to a missionary so that he can eat while proclaiming the gospel. That is prosperity. If we have money for fishing gear, ski trips, golf balls, video games, internet service, cable TV, the like, then we could give to the Lord. It´s simply a matter of the affection of the heart. Most of us could do more if we had a heart to do more. So…. Those that defend tithing as a way to support the work of the Lord are in error. Just as much as those that defends the error of not tithing. Both are defending 2 extreme positions and neither ever talks of what true New Testament giving really looks like. Did either of you give as God has prospered you last week? After you paid all of it out as you should have to maintain your testimony, after you came home from the super market, after you bought a new pair of shoes, did you give ALL that was left over to the work of the Lord? If you didn´t, then neither you that want to tithe nor your that demands we do not tithe are honest givers and neither should be followed as examples of the flock. Don´t tell me what you are obligated to do or not do. I am at liberty. So are you. You are free. But if you have met your obligations, paid your bills, and then did what God actually commanded us to do with our money, have you gave to God AS He has prospered us? A right relationship with God is not dependent upon my giving, but it involves giving. If you do not have a right relationship with God not much else is going to work right in your life. I have been pastoring about 20 years. I have counseled many people over their finances. In all that time I have never, not once met the person that was in financial trouble for tithing. Not once. I know you say they are every day occurrences, but I have never met one in 20 years after having planted 6 churches from scratch. Maybe I am an anomaly. But I have met plenty of saints that were in financial difficulties due to spiritual problems and a lack of following this Biblical principle of giving the prosperity to God. So there you have it. This is what calvary teaches on New Testament giving. I´ll tell you what SIC, my personal opinion, and it´s only that, an opinion, is your heart is dead wrong on this issue. To you it’s a battle and striving over words and the letter. I read nothing of a generous heart in your posts, only anger, bitterness and discontentment. I wouldn´t follow your example across the street dear brother. John Wesley said, Earn as much as you can. Give as much as you can. Save as much as you can. God bless, calvary
  21. Pro 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Pro 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
  22. Calvary wasn´t defending any tithe Standing, why you put my posts in a context that suggests otherwise is deceitful. You are using my posts to bolster your straw man argument. My post by its context clearly showed only a special offering being made to the saints in Jerusalem. Nothing more. You are dishonest to include my posts and then state they show nothing of a tithe., I never was speaking to the tithe, for or against.
  23. Standing, you would be charged with the impossible task of finding any post where I ever told anyone to tithe. I care not a whit what you do with your money or what anyone does with their money. Again, your inability to actually do any due diligence in studying out what the saints needed, who these particular saints were and why was Paul asking them to get it together for the 3 men who are on their way to collect it? Do you suggest that all local churches send their offerings to a central clearinghouse? According to your sloppy study habits, since you always seem to tell us what the text in any given situation does not say, thereby absolving all and any of whatever it you stand against, I could easily say, the Bible does not state that I cannot smoke cigarettes, therefore if I so chose to do so, I am not violating the scriptures. Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Obviously a standard that Paul has taught in many places. I am aware of what verse 3 says, but it does not annul what he said in verse 1.
  24. You sport your ignorance as if you're proud of it! Wow! This offering was a special offering to the saints in Jerusalem due to the drought that brought on them. Ever read Acts 11?? Paul is being sarcastic in verse 1, he is still waiting for these Corinthians to send what they had promised a year earlier. Mine was no nice try, it was simple Bible. Sometimes your forcing of the letter is a joke Standing. It completely ignores context and is lazy for looking for the cross references. Any simple search would have revealed to you that this chapter and the previous are dealing with an offering that was being collected for the saints in Jerusalem as a result of a drought there. These are not instructions for the regular giving of a church as they would be found in 1 Corinthians 16. All I can do is shake my head at your complete ignorance on the context of this chapter, even for you that´s a mind blower. But I guess in your great zeal to make sure no one ever , ever , ever tithes and feels good about, you jump in and inserted foot in mouth. God bless calvary
