Standing Firm In Christ got a reaction from wretched in Abram's Obedience Test
Tithing was indeed in place long before Abram gave tithes to Melchizedek.

It was practiced by the ancient Babylonians more than 275 years before Abram met Melchizedek in the Valley of Shaveh. (Valley of the kings)  The ancient Babylonian's would give tithes of war spoils to kings every time they were victorious in battle.

In 1906, the curator of the British Museum, Charles Pinches, acquired two clay tablets etched in cuneiform.  The tablets were dated 2200 BC, and depicted ancient Babylonians, victorious in war, giving tithes from war spoils to their king.

Abram, having lived previously in Ur of the Chaldees, a country in the region of ancient Babylonia, would have been well aware of the practice.

Interestingly, when the children of Israel destroyed the enemies of God upon entering the land of Canaan, they were not told to tithe the spoils of war.  They were told to destroy most of the spoils, but to take 100% of the silver and gold, and the vessels of brass and iron, to the Tabernacle.

you are correct,... A person who embraces or teaches false teaching is not in agreement with God, and is therefore, not walking with Him.

Problem is, the Jesus that the Catholics embrace and teach is one whose mother is a perpetual virgin and is the queen of heaven who allegedly hears and answers their prayers.

of course, their Jesus is not the Jesus that can save..

I think it was NoNicolaitans that wrote something in the past about even IFB's teach a form of Replacement Theology.

So many do, and don't realize they do.  When it is pointed out that they do, they deny it being a form of Replacement Theology.  But it is whether they deny it or not.

Standing Firm In Christ got a reaction from ... in Through The Bible One Verse At A Time
    Rules are simple.

Beginning at Genesis 1:1, and posting the following verse, and so on, in order as laid out in the KJV one verse per post, let's make our way to the last verse in the book of Revelation.

As you post the verses, or read the verses, allow them to speak to your hearts.  I'll start...

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Yes sir, I myself take this to mean "real fire" shall really proceed "out of their mouth" to devour their enemies; "and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed."
I myself believe that God's two witnesses shall indeed die, that their dead bodies shall indeed "lie in the street of the great city," Jerusalem, for "three days and a half," and that "after three days and an half" they shall indeed be resurrected from the dead to ascend into heaven "in a cloud" within the sight of their enemies.  Indeed, I take it precisely literal in its details, as the God the Holy Spirit inspired it.
Seems as if Stevenson the commentator and I myself would NOT be in much agreement herein.

I think I know what the next discovery might be...The Mystery of Jesus' Shoe Latchet!
As I was praying one day, I heard God say, "Discover the mystery of Jesus' shoe latchet!" As I pondered this, it occurred to me that John the Baptist said that he wasn't worthy to loose the latchet of Jesus' shoes. What was it about the latchet of Jesus' shoes that was so mysti-magical that John said he couldn't unloose them? Why did John say there was only one latchet...he said the latchet of Jesus shoes. There's a mystery there. One latchet; two shoes.
Come with me as I expose the mystery of Jesus' shoe latchet. When you discover the mystery of Jesus' shoe latchet...just as Jesus walked on the water...you will also walk on water! You'll walk across the water of your adversities! You won't sink in your adversity any more! Just as Jesus walked into the temple and overthrew the tables of the money changers, you too will overthrow the tables of debt, the tables of heartache, the tables of depression, the tables of bad habits, and the tables of whatever has been holding you back from success in life!
Do you want success? Do you want the power of miracles on your life? Do you want to be rid of the demon of debt? Then you too, need to discover the mystery of Jesus' shoe latchet.

When you say Swordbooks, Sword of the Lord is the first thing that comes to mind for me. Is that what you're talking about? If not, I'd like to look into what you are referring to. Either way, that might not be a bad idea. I'd have to check into whether or not they'd do print on demand because I published through CreateSpace. Anything that helps get it out is good though. It can't do anyone any good if it doesn't get into their hands.

Standing Firm In Christ got a reaction from No Nicolaitans in Kirk Cameron's "unstoppable" Grosses 2 Million In 1 Night
Saw "Unstoppable" on Netflix a couple nights back.

    Huge disappointment.

Kirk Cameron was speaking at one point in the movie of the flood that destroyed the Earth.  He said that the bow that God set in the clouds was God's weapon of war.  Just as a soldier hangs his weapon when ceasing from war, God hung His bow in the clouds to signify His war against the Earth was over.

    Or something to that effect.

His argument seemed to hinge upon the fact that everywhere bow or bows was mentioned in the Old Testament, except Genesis 9, it was speaking of weapons.  So God must have been speaking of a weapon in Genesis as well.

So, the bow was not a rainbow, but a weapon?  Really?

Like C.S. Lewis, the "christians" who love him are not really Christians at all.  Most were never scripturally born-again the bible's way.  Ignorance also plays a part, people hear that Lewis was a Christian and take such for granted not deeming it important to see what kind of christian he was.  A little digging and one will discover that he was not a Christian at all.  Today such men as Rob Bell and William Young continue the deception.

If man has no free will, then God is unjust.
The free will argument reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia.  Aslan was the righteous.  Tash was the wicked.  When Tash got killed, Aslan rewarded him with entrance into the Kingdom.  He said Tash had accomplished what he was created to do.
Sounds like universalism.  However, it demonstrates that there must be free will between God and man.  Otherwise, man who is wicked should be accepted of the Father for accomplishing what God wanted him to do.
If man has no free will over his actions, then it would be wrong for God to punish man for his actions.  Yet, Matthew 25:46 states the wicked shall go away into everlasting punishment.

Well, I hope the fella was saved the bible's way.  He's done much damage to the cause of Christ with his dozens of heresies and false gospels and poor attitude and unscriptural conduct.  It is my hope that his movement fades quickly with his passing.

Discussion on the three tithes, the storehouse, and the first fruits.
NOTE: Biblical tithes never were, and never will be monetary.  Biblical tithes are defined in Leviticus 27:30-33 and Deuteronomy 14:22-29.  Tithes and first fruits are not the same. (Nehemiah 10:37-38)  The storehouse is not the church house.

My understanding is that the entire Bible (all 66 books) was penned by Jewish "holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Peter 1:21b).
So don't knock "Jewish understanding" when it comes to understanding "what the Bible says".
Romans 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Romans 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

I've tried wrapping my mind around the crucifixion being on Friday; whereas, I can see the possibility of three days using the partial day of Friday, all of Saturday, and Christ rising early on Sunday. However, I don't see how three nights can fit into that timeframe. All that I can see are two nights...Friday and Saturday.
I'm not wanting to argue; I'm just trying to understand.

    Brother Markle,
I have been corresponding via email with a Jewish brother in Christ , Mark Robinson, executive director of Jewish Awareness Ministries concerning the three days and three nights, and the "high" day in John 19:31.  Here is his response to my question concerning the Sabbath and the Sabbath being called a "high day" in John 19:31:

    Hi Linda,

Sabbath is always Saturday.  The “high” or “floating” sabbath crowd is wrong. Judaism only recognizes one sabbath day – Saturday. Here is additional info on the “High” or “”Great” Sabbath.

(The Great Sabbath) commemorates the 10th day of Nissan, when the Hebrew slaves took the lambs that they were going to offer for Pesach and tied them up outside their homes, to keep until they offered it on the 14th (Ex. 12:3-6). According to tradition, this was a dangerous thing to do, because Egyptians worshipped sheep, but miraculously, instead of slaughtering the Hebrews, the Egyptians instead fought with each other over whether the Hebrews should be sent away already.Shabbat Ha-Gadol is the Shabbat before Pesach (Passover). Traditionally, this was one of the few times of the year that a rabbi gave a lengthy sermon (in modern times, we get one every week). The sermon was usually about preparations for Pesach, and this special Shabbat commemorates a preparation for the original Pesach in Egypt. Shabbat Ha-Gadol“

The special haftarah reading for this Shabbat is Malachi 3:4-24. This messianic prophecy regarding the end of days and the return of the prophet Elijah is read at this time because it is believed that Elijah will return at Pesach. This is why we include a cup for him in our seder rituals.”

                Judaism 101, http://www.jewfaq.org/special.htm#HaGadol

There is never 2 sabbath days in a row. Sabbath is ALWAYS Saturday. There are a number of “special” Sabbaths but they are always on Saturdays – see http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Holidays/Shabbat/Special/special.html

    ***********************************************

    Shabbat HaGadol means "Great Sabbath"
Haftarah is a reading from the Prophets along with the weekly Torah portion (read in the synagogue on the Sabbath)

The book of Malachi in the Jewish Scriptures does not have 4 chapters as the does the book of Malachi in our KJV.....it only has 3 (chapters 3 & 4 are combined to 24 verses (18 verses in chapter 3, and 6 verses in chapter 4)
